I like that ArcGIS is the standard in GIS -- cartography and analysis. This software is what most with a traditional background in GIS learned on. The interface is nice and the tool is powerful. The company also offers free licenses for nonprofit use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For individuals the price is quite expensive. The tool is so powerful that it can be hard to learn all of the intricacies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The new user interface has been carefully designed, easy to understand and very complete. ArcGIS continues to develop its toolkit to provide powerful and easy-to-use GIS applications to solve any problem in the spatial format (where the problem is and where it is). Although these tools are complex in nature, they are very easy to learn and ESRI also provides excellent training. The software itself is an industry standard, making it easy to find trained, experienced, and skilled employees. Your support is very good. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and good to follow. Cost can be an obstacle for small organizations. We hope that you will continue to work to improve the cost model, especially as it relates to smaller government agencies. With the development of the software, the main applications have been developed in two different directions. The latest version seems to bring them back together. I hope this situation will continue for the foreseeable future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ArcGIS is a de-facto standard where you're working with spatial data in most companies.
Pros:
ArcGIS is everywhere, in private and government organizations. If somebody talking about GIS, it's most likely about ArcGIS. If you're experienced with ArcGIS it will be easy to learn how to use any other GIS system. The data formats like shapefiles, commonly used with ArcGIS are de-facto industry standards, that are supported by other GIS software. ArcGIS is one of the oldest systems in the market, so it sets the overall trend of how the GIS industry.
As for my personal experiences, I like ArcGIS it's easy to learn, easy to create great maps, and analyze spatial data. I think that the digitizing editor is easy to use, especially when you need to georeference the raster images, and it's better than in competing software.
You can easily automate your data transformation workflows without the need to learn the coding, using the built-in model builder. If you're willing to learn Python, you can automate even more complex workflows using the powerful built-in Python API, accessible right from the user interface. ArcGIS needs lots of resources, so you need to have a modern computer with enough RAM to be able to use the software effectively. Right now, ESRI in transition between the old 10.x lineup of the ArcGIS ecosystem, to the new ArcGIS Pro. 10.x is almost deprecated when the Pro sometimes still lasks the important features. Easy to digitize and capture from raster images. Editing tools are easy to use and locate. It has a vast majority of different tool sets for different jobs. For example geo-referencing, creating fishnets for map book production. This software was easier to use than GIS smallworld, CADCorp or QGIS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are too many licences in the desktop version. I believe some tools should be free such as creating points from a line. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best part of the software is ease of work, and sources that provide helpful info when you bump into issues. There is a big community built on this software. This is very helpful.
One best thing about the SW is to use to know it. The SW has the tools ease of GUI is great to work. Constantly expanding the and exploring and incorporating the user input to improve the SW. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The software is little expensive. But on the same not all of the current softwares are in the same page. I understand technology is expensive. But there are ways to reduce. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the ability to make quality and accurate maps displaying vital project and site information. the ability to share information, layers, shapefiles, etc. as well as the ever expanding and endless possibilities for analysis Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
still learning how it all works, the numerous ways to manipulate and input data, and the kind of "coding" language of the analysis Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The API engine that brilliantly lets user play with various Geo-processing tools and bring a real-time solution to the worldly problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The system requirement is pretty exhaustive. One needs to have a decent PC to make the best of it. Also, the pricing mechanism is way too taxing for an average person to convince Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
User interface and user friendly... when it works! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We buy for more than 13000$ for Esri products. 2 months and more than tweny hours spend to install those, with some help with the support service, i have a long list of trouble.
Very disappointed. Think about it before you buy those
products. I have a strange feeling of being tricked.
the service is incredibly deficient Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ARCGIS is the leading GIS software on the market, we use it daily in the planning and development office. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost is a bit much, but considering all the benefits, it's still well worth it! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
You can do so many things in ArcGIS. There are tons of options on how to do anything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would maybe like ArcGIS to make suggestions if it appears that you're doing something one way and there may be a better option. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I went to a training for Esri and I am so glad I did! It is definitely something I would not have learned on my own. My favorite aspect is the already made lessons for students - I have already used a few with my middle schoolers! The lesson planning is already done for you and the students really enjoy manipulating the maps. I am hoping to get confident enough with it that my students create their very own study at the end of the school year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is definitely a learning curve - it is a bit intimidating at first, but is such a wonderful FREE source once you get the hang of it! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Arc Pro has a much friendlier UI than Arc Map and competing GI software packages. The ease of use of ArcGIS Online (AGOL) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Basic processing tools being locked behind more advanced licenses. The transition over from Arc Map to Pro can potentially be lengthy but it is definitely worth investing your time into mastering pro as this is the future of Arc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Esri ArcGIS is the most useful program for linking data and location in a specific coordinate system on different spatial levels and visualize the results on a map. It gives a broad spectrum of tools (Arc Toolbox) for analyzing the data. The link with Excel and AutoCAD is extremely useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Esri ArcGIS can be upgraded in terms of visual representation, both the interface and the external results (the maps). The interface can be friendlier and more practical in order to make the complex tools easier even for beginners. This way more people will be aware of the opportunities that the program provides. In addition, for the external results it will be great if there are libraries with customized colours, pattern, diagrams, even pictograms and infographics, with option to import and export from/to other programs, for example Adobe Illustrator.
Last but not least, there could be a button with link to tutorial and the whole package could take less space in the hard drive. The storage of the files could be organised in packages that might be generated by the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its really helpful and easy to operated and use, its search panel makes thing easier.
ArcGIS contains tools for most of the operations which makes work very easy.
Multiple operations can be done on the single layers and watershed delineation in very easy in this Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The interface could be concise. it displays a lot of information which makes things look very difficult.
I feel that the interface is quite complicated it can be improved. It might be because i have used QGIS earlier so i am more familiar with that.
Rest is really good in ArcGIS

I have been using ESRI products for more than 20 years. The software is very robust and every year continues to improve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be quite expensive, but for most of us GIS professionals, the price is worth it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like about ArcGIS is the pragmatic approach it takes to offer its users for manipulating spatial data. It offers tools such as 3D analysts, Data Management, Buffer and clip. One of the other cool features is the ArcGIS online service. Users can import a wide-range of sundry data that can be integrated into their own geographical location. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A few of the tools hinder efforts to manipulate which leads to a repetitive, mundane protocol to achieve the desired end results. There also appears to be discrepancies embedded in integrating CAD files into the system. There are times where the system shuts off when bringing a CAD into ArcGIS. ArcGIS is a great mapping software for anyone who needs to consistently make maps or do spatial analysis. It has been the industry standard for a reason all this time. There are so many possibilities, and it's pretty common to find out something new you can do with the program that you didn't know about before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's expensive (prohibitively so for most individuals). Given that open source GIS programs are quickly gaining ground on ArcGIS, it's unfortunate that the program is not being made more innovative. It also can be buggy and crash sometimes. And the weird particularities that Arc has when it comes to working with data can be annoying. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ArcGIS is an incredibly complete tool for geostatistical analysis, for the digitization and study of projects and for the planning of geographical strategies, for the design of marketing strategies. It is such a useful tool in so many areas that it is difficult for me to imagine any in which I would not have any possible application. I like its multiplatform adaptation and the different modalities and its advanced raster data processing functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I understand that it is quite advanced and complex software, however I feel that it could work to be lighter in processing. Licenses are quite expensive, which makes considering largely free alternatives for data processing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
