They even start a slack group together to help you! i use it every week multiple times a week. overall 10 out of 10. They are only getting started. **What do you dislike about Equals?** I expected a filters feature. They are working on it and have an early version out. To get other people (non engineers) in my team to play with , i would love a filters feature (tableau does this well) **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** Helps me stay on top of critical KPIs. for exampel, i wanted to knwo if a price change affected the logo retention of my product. The answer was more complex. It did affect - 50% percentage of my customers froma. specific cohort and had no effect on the others. I should have raised the price on.1 segment but not the other. if i had equals earlier, i could have seen this and taken the right decision. ### 4. We've created all kinds of incredibly useful views, reports and analyses that are always up to date. **What do you dislike about Equals?** Can't think of any downsldes, and I've tried a variety of other services and probably every dashboard tool on the market. Nothing comes close to the value of Equals. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1) I can see and track the core metrics of my e-commerce business in real time, on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, etc. basis. 2) When I need to drill down into any part of our operation, I can create a new worksheet and get to answers super fast. 3) Continuously updating reports I've set up help us quickly spot emerging issues or opportunities (e.g. - rising CPMs for a particular ad campaign, sales spike in a particular product category, etc.). ### 5. We started to go down the heavy Looker/etc stack, but found it insanely cumbersome - couldn't we just see all of our information like it was in a spreadsheet? For the first time, we have the ability to easily view our information and quickly construct the insights and reports we need. Best of all, it required little to no training of our team - we already know how to use excel! ### 7. Learning to use Equals and setting up the reports the way I wanted was easy. It comes with good features that help in a day-to-day update of the reports, for example, scheduled query, the automated email of the dashboard is a good option to share the summary of the report with stakeholders. Also, impressive support process. Abbey provided support as and when needed. One more thing to point out is most of the feedbacks were deployed on production in a short period. If you are a startup and you aren't using it you need to stop reading this review and go sign up right now. Anyone with basic Excel skills can create sophisticated reports that cross-reference live data sources and automatically distribute them via Slack. Everyone on our team is now able to conduct accurate analysis and report on it with maximum efficiency. Their customer support is also fantastic - they will respond to messages at all hours of the night and solve problems immediately. The founder's vision of simplifying startup reporting is reflected through the performance of the product and woven into the company's DNA. Equals is a huge asset to Vella and I can't say enough good things about it. If they raised the price 5x I'd still pay for it. **What do you dislike about Equals?** The aesthetics of the dashboards still need improvement but it's clear the team is working on that. I have previously used Google Sheets for every type of data analysis possible, but now no longer. Equals has completely replaced Google Sheets in my life. With Google Sheets, I had to push in the data source i.e. raw data repeatedly before presenting the analysis. Before using Equals, I tried doing Google Sheets + Zapier combination to push in raw data, but it just doesn't work well if the data set is big. However, all of this work is old news now. Equals allows automatic, scheduled updates with raw data. This makes my life 10x easier. Not to mention, Equals is connected to both Gmail and Slack, so I can automatically send over the analysis to our team. Previously, I had to take a screenshot and send it manually... not a great experience. With Equals, I can say I feel like much of my tedious work is automated and I can focus on the actual analysis, which is important. **What do you dislike about Equals?** Nothing really. Equals has made my life significantly better. Huge fan of Equals :) **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Equals for every data analysis I do. The problem with Google Sheets or Excel is the raw data doesn't get updated automatically and Equals does an amazing job with this. And there are very few platforms that allow users to write SQL queries AND have a spreadsheet simultaneously. Equals is one of them and does it seamlessly so I love this tool. ### 10. My use cases have changed frequently as I've been using Equals since pretty close to day 0. They are constantly building out the feature set to make it more full-fledged and enterprise-ready. As a startup, the ability to quickly cut data and hand it off in a relevant, recurring fashion to the right teammates is far better than my previous workflow of either 1) pulling the data and sending it over raw, or 2) overbuilding reporting in our internal dashboard ahead of a validated need. Support is nearly immediate and top-notch. Integration and implementation is pretty much off and to the races if you are familiar with SQL (or whatever your data source). Overall, big fan of the product and team. **What do you dislike about Equals?** The only downside is if need enterprise-grade dashboards for people who are not data-savvy. But classic BI software I used in previous companies was far more Brittle than Equals, so there is a clear tradeoff. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves reporting speed and flexibility across our company. ### 11. The dashboard feature and ability to connect across all the key datasources we use is amazing. We have it connected to Stripe, Postgres, and several others. Makes it super easy for the team to track key metrics. We looked at other sytems (e.g. we used Looker at a previous company) but they were SO much more expensive and required engineers to setup everything.. which was a major overhead for an early stage startup like us. I use it daily and have scheduled reports sent to the entire team. **What do you dislike about Equals?** There aren't many things we don't like. Maybe a Zapier integration would be nice so we coudl push data into a workbook based on other workflows. With your AI assitant you can descibe exactly what you're looking to acomplish and your AI assistant will not only write the formulas for you, but will add it directly to your target cell. The assistant is paired perfectly wih an intuitive query builder so if you're terrified of SQL or simply don't want to think about SQL you can simply choose which table and which columns you want and save or share the query. **What do you dislike about Equals?** There's nothing to dislike about Equals. That alone saves me probably 10 hours of manual work per week that I would have previously spent querying a data warehouse, downloading the CSV, and then copying that CSV into a spreadsheet. Particularly helpful is the Hubspot integration, because the native reporting functionality in Hubspot is very very poor. The visualization and dashboard features + the auto updates of underlying data is great too. Getting up and running is super easy and I've heard great things about their expert team as well. It does the job of several tools, all in one place. I can import, analyze, visualize, and export the data from the same tool. Equals has allowed us to fully automate our test monitoring. I also love their customer service. They are incredibly helpful and responsive. **What do you dislike about Equals?** I have no complaints about equals at this time. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** We previously used sheets and a sheets add-on to import our A/B test data from BigQuery, but then we had to open the spreadsheet every day to monitor performance. Equals allows us to schedule the queries AND schedule a daily dashboard, so we just need to look in slack to monitor all of our tests. Some of the charting features could use improvement and the spreadsheet functionality overall can feel clunky in comparison to today's modern Excel interface. Plus, the peace of mind that comes from automated reporting is priceless. **What do you dislike about Equals?** Setting up databases that require bespoke connections --such as GA4-- can be a bit challenging. Equals lets your team operate in an environment which is intimately familiar -- spreadsheets. We had a complex google sheets environment that served us for many years: we had our data warehouse dumping nightly into source sheets that other people could pull into their models. As disciplined as we were this ended up being a very fragile solution. Equals being able to query the source directly from the data warehouse means less interdependence on sources. An unexpected advantage of this pattern was we could stress less about how we added data into the data warehouse because we could transform it on the way out so easily. That simplified our whole data stack (we moved everything to AirByte). The other part we loved was the column transforms. No need to worry about formulas not being filled down to the bottom or someone accidentally overwriting a cell. **What do you dislike about Equals?** The licensing should be easiser-- I don't want to chat to sales every time I want to add more people. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** Equals provides a spreadsheet native frontend to your data warehouse. ### 20. Seamless Data Querying and Visualization - One of the most helpful features is the ability to query data and view/query it in an excel/sheet format without the need for downloading or exporting the data. Its reliability and efficiency make it a go-to tool for ad hoc data queries, dashboarding, or reconciliations. The dashboard feature in Equals is a game-changer for our month-end reporting. Creating dashboards is incredibly straightforward, allowing us to visualize and present data effectively with minimal effort. **What do you dislike about Equals?** Data Limits - Equals has incresed their data limits over time, but there is a cap on the amount of data you can query (currently I believe it's 1 million rows). Some of our more complex workbooks were crashing and we had to work around those limits. Would also like capabiilty to export to excel with formulas intact. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** We leverage Equals for reconciliations - we query multiple datasets and run comparisons to flag exceptions. This required 5 different workbooks that would often crash. One for each system and then another one to consolidate the other 4 workbooks. I was able to implement a similar analysis and get the same results using just Equals. This now allows me to create a real system of record which we use everyday. Any issues that I run into, support has been incredibly fast to resolve them as well as receptive to ideas for my particular use case. Seeing this, we created a fully automated dashboard for our sales opportunities reporting that can show how each opportunity has changed week over week. We looked at other BI tools but the lift to get them properly functioning and the maintenance required was prohibitive for us. We also found that the majority of our ad hoc anlysis was still happening in excel, therefore inneficient and not scaleable as the team grew and analysis became more complex. Equals is built like a spreadsheet, its as easy to use as Excel or Sheets but made for the way businesses work today. You can easily connect multiple data sources and automate reports/dashboards to be sent to executive steams, stakeholders etc. The implementation is seamless and takes seconds, we mainly use the Hubspot and Salesforce connectors but they have many more and can connect to data warehouses too. The customer support has been incredible, they have consistently responded in seconds with help and have offered to let us participate in the roadmap of the product. Product fixes are very quick. The new Dashbaording features are fantasic, it's great to have both the feel of a spreadsheet combined with the capability to make the views you build self update on one presentable tab that can easily be exported to sheets,slack,email etc. For tables especially, which are very hard to dashboard for us in other products, Equals saves us a tremendous amount of time fiddling with Excel screenshots and powerpoint. The prodcuct is incredibly well designed and made for finance/ops teams. Equals will save any team (especially resource limited ones) hours a week. For the first time in my career, I have pretty much all the data I need at my fingertips in one product and I can pre-build self-updating presentable views for the most important pieces. I rarely am caught unable to quickly respond to questions by our exec team because of Equals. I don't think I'll ever leave Equals for another BI-Tool.... We may even get rid of Excel (the idea of which still shocks me). **What do you dislike about Equals?** At times it can be a little glitchy and there are still functions found in Excel and Sheets that don't exist yet in Equals. You will immediately see the great work they've done to match Equals and Excel's capabilities in terms of formulas but some key formulas/functions are missing... I've been able to find workarounds to many of these issues but not ideal. Sometimes randomly there will be some glitchyness but so far it has not been an issue (with the exception of the Query builder). They definitely built the product to be SQL first so their non SQL query builder is slow and hard to use. This has forced us to get better at SQL (definitely not a bad thing) but the AI enabled helper has been a very valuable resource for us when we get stuck. Our team has had no major problems with speed when we use the SQL editor. Currently the product can do about a quarter million rows... we have only tested this a couple times with activity data from Salesforce but have had no major issues. Our company rarely needs this amount of compute power but they did say they are in the process of bringing the limit to a million rows I believe. **What problems is Equals solving and how is that benefiting you?** Equals has become our primary tool for data analysis, visualization and promalgation. The product works bvery much like Excel or Sheets so is super easy to use but has many really powerful features like dashboards and reporting that allows us to easily send prebuild views to execs or simply create really well formatted reports to track key areas of the business.
