## Guardian Reviews
  ### 1. Powerful Identity Workflows, but Admin UX and Troubleshooting Need Clarity

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** mastervonbuelow@gmail.com v. | Systems Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Guardian?**

Guardian has been most valuable for helping us centralize and standardize physical identity and access management across a complex environment. We are using it to manage different identity types beyond normal employees, including tenants, tenant coordinators, property management users, visitors, vendors, and other non standard populations that do not always fit cleanly into a normal HR driven identity flow.

What I like best is that Guardian gives us a framework to build structured onboarding, approval, badge photo collection, access assignment, suspension, and offboarding workflows instead of relying on disconnected manual processes. The ability to connect identity data, access control systems, visitor management, approvals, and audit history into one platform is a major benefit for our security operations.

Guardian has also helped us think through duplicate identity prevention, tenant company relationships, building scoped access, role based visibility, and cleaner governance around who should be able to request, approve, or administer access. For our environment, that flexibility is important because we support multiple buildings, companies, tenants, vendors, and physical access systems.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

The biggest challenge with Guardian is that the product can feel complex to configure and operationalize, especially in environments with many different identity types, approval paths, buildings, access control systems, and business rules. The platform is powerful, but that flexibility also means implementation requires a lot of detailed discovery, workflow design, testing, and vendor support to make sure the system behaves the way the business actually needs.

Some areas could be improved around configuration clarity, troubleshooting visibility, and admin usability. For example, when working through tenant onboarding, duplicate identity prevention, password reset behavior, MFA/captcha flows, badge photo workflows, suspension/offboarding logic, and system integrations, it is not always immediately clear where a rule is configured, why a specific validation fired, or what backend process caused a user-facing result. Better admin-facing diagnostics, clearer workflow tracing, and more transparent error messages would make support and troubleshooting easier.

The UI could also be more streamlined for administrators who need to manage complex identity populations at scale. In some cases, the product has the needed capability, but finding the right screen, setting, workflow step, or configuration area is not as intuitive as it could be.

Overall, the product is strong, but the implementation and support experience would benefit from more out-of-the-box guidance, clearer documentation, stronger logging/traceability, and better tools for testing workflows before they affect production users.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Guardian is helping us solve the challenge of managing physical identities and access across a large, mixed-use real estate and corporate environment. We have to support hundreds of buildings with different ownership, operating models, tenant structures, and access control needs. In some buildings, we manage access for our own team member population. In other buildings, those same team member populations overlap with multi-tenant buildings where we also support access for tenant companies, property management users, vendors, and visitors. We also have some locations where our organization is only a tenant, which creates a different access model than buildings where we operate or help manage the broader property access program.

The biggest problem Guardian helps address is that these populations cannot all be treated the same. A team member, tenant coordinator, tenant employee, property management user, vendor, visitor, resident, or contractor may all need physical access, but the source of truth, approval path, badge process, access duration, building scope, and offboarding trigger can be very different. Even within our own team member population, access is not one size fits all. Some team members need only normal building access, while others need elevated access based on department, role, floor, business function, executive area, operations responsibility, or special access group membership.

Guardian gives us a centralized framework to define and enforce these differences instead of managing them through disconnected emails, tickets, spreadsheets, and direct updates in individual access control systems. We can build structured workflows for onboarding, approvals, badge photo collection, access assignment, duplicate prevention, suspension, offboarding, and audit tracking. That helps us better answer who has access, what type of identity they are, which building or tenant company they belong to, who approved the access, when it should expire, and what system it was provisioned into.

A major benefit is that Guardian supports a more governed lifecycle model for non-standard identities. Tenant and property management workflows are especially important because the requestor, approver, and security admin responsibilities may be split across different groups. Guardian helps us keep those roles clear while still giving Security the oversight needed to protect the environment.

Overall, Guardian is helping us move from reactive access administration to a more structured physical identity program. It improves consistency, auditability, duplicate prevention, and lifecycle control across a complex portfolio where employee, tenant, vendor, visitor, and property-managed access often overlap.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

  ### 2. Guardian Streamlines Identity and Access Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sneha K. | Support Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Guardian?**

What I like best is how Guardian simplifies the complexity of managing user identities and access requests. As someone managing an IAM application, the platform’s ability to provide clear visibility into permissions and automate workflows is a huge time-saver. It integrates smoothly with our existing infrastructure, reducing the manual overhead typically associated with access governance and auditing.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

At times, the user interface can feel slightly sluggish when handling very large datasets or complex organizational trees. I would also like to see more flexibility in the reporting module; while the standard reports are good, creating highly customized, granular exports sometimes requires more manual effort than expected.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manual onboarding and offboarding were taking our team hours every week, often leading to delays for new hires or security gaps when someone left.

Benefit: Guardian solves this by automating the identity lifecycle. It has moved us from manual ticket handling to automated provisioning. This allows our support team to focus on high-priority architectural tasks rather than routine access requests.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for such a detailed and insightful review. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

It’s great to hear that Guardian is helping simplify the complexity of identity and access management, especially through improved visibility and workflow automation. Reducing manual overhead and streamlining provisioning across your environment is exactly what our physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform is designed to deliver. We’re especially glad to see the impact on onboarding and offboarding, freeing up your team to focus on higher-value work is a meaningful outcome.

We also appreciate your candid feedback on UI performance with large datasets and the need for more flexibility in reporting and granular exports. ### 3. Guardian Review of myAccess

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Guardian?**

We like that that the myAccess product is currently on-prem which allows us to understand it better and tune it to our environment when needed. It also allows us to troubleshoot easier when we don't have to rely on a support team that isn't in the same time zone as we are.
We are able to mitigate fixes or work arounds on-the-fly rather than relying on and waiting for the next patch or update to the system.
IU is functional and administration is extensive for support within the corporation.
We are looking forward to having the legacy system upgraded to something newer in 2027.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

As this myAccess product is EOL this year, we have halted all additional patching to subvert any extra-curricular activities and support issues caused by security updates and patches breaking functions within the product. This has been going on for the last year or so.

The improvement should be moving to the new version of myAccess on-prem, hybrid cloud on-prem, or cloud-based only.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The myAccess product used within the corporation mainly documents NERC/CIP related access but has since been expanded to a large amount of physical and electronic access as well.
This keeps our control and awareness of who has access in line with current regulatory and governance requirements.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for the detailed review. We really appreciate the context you’ve shared, especially around your myAccess deployment in a utilities/NERC environment.

It’s great to hear that the on-premise model has given your team the control and flexibility needed to troubleshoot, tune, and adapt the system in real time. That level of ownership is especially important in regulated environments like NERC/CIP, where visibility, auditability, and responsiveness are critical. We’re also glad Guardian has helped expand beyond documentation into broader physical and electronic access governance, keeping access aligned with compliance requirements.

We understand your decision to limit patching as the current version approaches end-of-life, and your focus on stability during that period. Planning the transition to a newer version, whether on-prem, hybrid, or cloud, is an important next step, and we’d welcome the opportunity to support you in evaluating the best path forward based on your operational and compliance needs.

If helpful, our team can work with you to review upgrade options, discuss deployment models, and ensure a smooth transition that maintains the control and visibility you rely on today.

Thank you again for your partnership and for sharing your experience.

  ### 5. Intuitive, Configurable GUI—But Setup and Documentation Rely on Developers

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco O. | Senior software developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Guardian?**

What is most helpful about Guardian?
The most helpful aspects of Guardian are its simple and intuitive GUI and easy navigation, which make it approachable for users with varying levels of technical expertise. The platform is also highly configurable, allowing it to be adapted to different use cases and organizational needs. Once configured correctly, Guardian provides a streamlined experience that supports efficient system interactions.

What are the upsides of using Guardian?
Guardian offers several key upsides:

User-friendly interface: The clean and straightforward design improves usability and reduces the learning curve for new users.
Ease of navigation: Logical layout and clear workflows make it easy to move through the system and perform required tasks.
Flexibility and configurability: Guardian can be tailored to meet specific business or operational requirements, which is valuable in complex or evolving environments.

That said, one notable drawback is the dependency on Guardian developers for system configuration, which can limit agility and self-service capabilities for internal teams. Additionally, the lack of out-of-the-box documentation and user guides makes it more challenging to onboard users or independently troubleshoot without external support.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

One of the primary dislikes is the strong dependency on Guardian developers for configuration and changes, which limits internal teams’ ability to independently manage or adapt the system. This reliance can slow down updates and reduce overall agility.
Another concern is the lack of out-of-the-box functionality and application guides. The absence of clear documentation and ready-made usage guidance makes onboarding more difficult and increases the learning curve for both new and existing users.
Additionally, the non-standard design of menus can be confusing at times. Menu structures do not always align with common UI conventions, which can impact usability and require extra time for users to locate features or understand workflows.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Guardian is solving the challenge of addressing specialized and evolving requirements that are not always supported by off‑the‑shelf products. One of the most significant benefits has been the developer flexibility and willingness to explore new requirements, even when those needs fall outside standard feature sets. The Guardian team has been highly accommodating and collaborative, working closely with us to understand regulatory and operational constraints.
A major example of this value is the inclusion of capabilities not available in other products, specifically Job Role change audits to support NERC compliance. This functionality directly addresses audit and regulatory needs that would otherwise require manual processes or supplemental tools. By providing this feature within Guardian, the platform helps reduce compliance risk, improves audit readiness, and saves time for internal teams.
Overall, Guardian benefits us by offering a solution that is adaptable, responsive to compliance-driven requirements, and supported by a development team willing to partner on custom needs, rather than forcing our processes to fit rigid, predefined product limitations.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review. We truly appreciate the time you took to share both the strengths and areas for improvement.

We’re glad to hear that Guardian’s intuitive interface, navigation, and configurability are delivering value. Designing a flexible physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform that can adapt to complex and evolving requirements, rather than forcing organizations into rigid workflows, is a core part of our approach. It’s especially meaningful to see Guardian supporting specialized needs like job role change audits for NERC compliance, helping improve audit readiness and reduce manual effort.

We also sincerely appreciate your candid feedback around configuration dependency, documentation, and menu structure. These are important areas we’ve been actively investing in. Over recent releases, we’ve expanded no-code and low-code configuration capabilities, enhanced self-service tools, and continued to improve in-platform guidance and documentation to better support independent administration and faster onboarding. Simplifying the user experience and aligning navigation more closely with common UI patterns is also an ongoing focus for our product team.

It’s great to hear that our team’s collaboration and willingness to support unique requirements has made a difference. That partnership mindset is something we’re committed to maintaining as we continue to evolve the platform.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and continued partnership. We’re focused on building on this foundation to deliver an even more intuitive, self-service, and scalable experience with Guardian.

  ### 6. Guardian and Operational Interoperabilty

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hamp Plowden H. | Manager, Physical Security Governance Risk and Compliance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

We struggled with multiple legacy platforms. We had a clear vision for a multi-use approach to identity management, and the Alert Enterprise team listened—then Guardian delivered. Guardian addressed interoperability for us by bringing various systems together to drive process improvement, strengthen cost controls, and support governance. There was no need to rip and replace our legacy systems; instead, we gained a single pane of glass that lets us run multiple operations from one dashboard. Truly game changing.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

There’s nothing to dislike about Guardian. In our organization, we too often got distracted by scope creep while developing new strategies. It’s critical not to get pulled off course by every new idea; instead, we need to stay focused on the task and scope, and keep the fundamentals in mind.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Guardian helped us accomplish a significant strategic goal we call "time-to-pay;" the connectivity between contractor time on site, and SAP integration for accurate invoicing. That was a significant challenge we faced and Guardian helped us resolve delivering real dollars back to our operations SG&A.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for sharing this thoughtful and generous review. We truly appreciate your partnership and confidence in Alert Enterprise Guardian.

We’re especially glad to hear how Guardian supported your vision for physical identity and access management (PIAM) by unifying multiple physical access control systems (PACS) without the need to rip and replace existing investments. ### 8. Fantastic End-to-End Access Control Automation with Audit Logs and Provisioning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Allen V. | Sr. Director, Security Technology, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Guardian?**

End-to-end automation of an access control request, audit log, and provisioning of access in the access control system.

**What do you dislike about Guardian?**

The previous version was easier for internal teams to configure updated workflows.

**What problems is Guardian solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Elimination of manual provisioning/deprovisioning and the reduction of human errors. Guardian also serves as our recertification platform to sensitive areas. Global Security is able to run a recertification of access with very little effort. If area owners do not act upon the recertification within 30 days, the access to the area is revoked automatically without human intervention. The Guardian platform enabled us to deploy over 40 badge printers in strategic offices with high populations which provides much quicker turnaround time between a person making a badge request and the person receiving a fully functional badge. We have not implemented NFC mobile credentials, but we like that the Guardian platform is fully capable of pushing an NFC credential into Apple and Google Wallets. We like the seamless integration of the visitor management platform being integrated with the turnstiles of our facility from a customer service standpoint and logging of the event from a security standpoint.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive and insightful review. We truly appreciate the level of detail.

We’re glad to hear that Guardian is delivering strong end-to-end access control automation, from request and approval workflows to audit logging and provisioning within your physical access control systems (PACS). Eliminating manual provisioning and deprovisioning to reduce human error is a core objective of our physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform, and it’s great to see that impact reflected in your operations.

Your use of Guardian for access recertification, especially for sensitive areas, is a great example of policy-driven governance in action. Enabling Global Security teams to run large-scale recertifications with minimal effort, automated enforcement, and built-in accountability is exactly how Guardian is designed to support compliance and risk reduction. We’re also pleased to hear how Guardian has helped accelerate badge issuance through distributed badge printer deployment, improving both turnaround time and user experience.

It’s exciting to hear that you’re leveraging Guardian’s visitor management integration with turnstiles for both customer experience and security visibility, and that you see value in the platform’s readiness for NFC mobile credentials in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet when the time is right.

**Official Response from Willem Ryan:**

> Thank you for the thoughtful review. We truly appreciate you highlighting the identity-driven impact of Guardian.

We’re glad to hear that automating access changes based on hire, role change, or termination events is delivering value for your organization. Bridging the traditional gaps between HR, IT, and operational technology (OT) systems, and extending that automation to badge systems—is central to Guardian’s physical identity and access management (PIAM) strategy. Eliminating manual cleanup and reducing the risk of orphaned access is exactly the kind of outcome we aim to achieve.

It’s also great to see Guardian supporting time and attendance tracking for employees, contractors, and tenants/vendors, along with automated access level assignments and badge actions: helping ensure the right access is maintained throughout the identity lifecycle.

Regarding AI, we’re excited to share that Guardian AI Agents are now available across enterprise workflows. These are intelligent, autonomous security agents built to transform physical access, identity governance, and SOC operations. They can assist with policy guidance, workflow automation, investigations, and operational decision support, and are available across platforms, including ServiceNow. We’re continuing to expand these AI-driven capabilities to enhance both platform intelligence and customer support experiences.
