Sync of credit card and receipt data from phone, email and credit card feed I thought was working.... But then they dropped the credit card feed feature and failed to notify me while they kept charging me fees. I had to find out by contacting the help desk! They claim to process invoices but there is no way to differentiate them from receipts! It was up to me to implement. Every dimension of the experience was terrrible. The software is hard to use. Menus are confusing and duplicative. Implemention is super complex. The implementation team sent an execl spreasdheet with 5 different tabs that I needed to fill out. It looked like hours of work. I gave up on the implementation, despite being locked into a 1-year contract. Then, after I cancelled, we kept getting invoiced. I reached out to Emburse 5 times to fix the invoicing issue, and never heard anything back. My whole experience has been a nightmare. We hated the platform and our credit cards wouldn't link. We continuously had issues with merging transactions (receipts with cc transactions cut and pasted in) and dislike that you cannot see a vendor name in the wallet or reporting - all you are given is an amount and an expense category. I have no idea why anyone would think this is the best way to present this information. This makes reviewing expenses take far too long for both the user and accounting. When you can see the vendor name, like you can in Expensify, you can skim reports versus having to click into every single expense to see where it came from. **What do you dislike about Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense)?** Our biggest point of pain is that our credit cards did not link to our user accounts. When we signed on with Certify we were told the company credit cards we had would not link to the Certify platform. When we looked at new credit cards to solve for this, we made sure to ask our Certify implementation coach if these other cards would link. She said yes so we applied for them and made the switch. The cards we were told would link were not our first choice and implementing them was a big deal for us since we had to open up a second collateral account and move money around. Once we made the switch and closed out our old cards, we found out that the new cards wouldn't link. Having to manually cut and paste cc transactions throughout the month is a LOT of work. It is extremely inefficient for us to do this with the amount of transactions we have. We are a startup with a handful of employees and an immense workload. Our time is precious. We were a long-time user - over 5 years, after they became a part of Emburse, they steadily declined. Their app was intermittent at best, with multiple issues regarding receipts not syncing, and various credit card syncing problems. It took over a year to get any real response from customer service with still no resolution. We could only contact support via email - no phone or chat support. And we no longer had an account rep as a point of contact which we had for many years before. Very disappointing that such a great product that we had no issues with, fell so fast and so hard. As a processor, you do not have the luxury to wait around for this outfit to call back. I do not know what other platforms are out there as options to process expense reports. In these times, I do not have the luxury of time to look into other systems. Mobile app itself is pretty terrible from a functionality perspective. There really is no integration with Amtrav portion of travel App. Initially went with Certify to give another Vendor a shot after having done Concur in multiple prior lives. Again, could be better. **What do you dislike about Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense)?** This is the worst product I have had to use. It's super confusing. You have receipts, which you then add to a wallet. You have expenses, which you add to a wallet. You can't upload a receipt and turn it into an expense. If you use the credit card import, you then have to separately add in the receipts, but only from a certain screen. THEN you have to attach each of them separately once you add the expenses into a report. The credit card import doesn't always work and you have to disconnect and reconnect the credit card. This could be way more streamlined and for a product whose only job is to make expenses easy it could be so much better. The reporting functionality is also pretty pathetic. It is not intuitive and some fields are not visible in some reports, but are visible in others. Just make it so I can choose what fields I want to use and I can create my own report. **Recommendations to others considering Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense):** Evaluate your options! I can spend hours on a single expense report trying to get the receipts uploaded and organized to the correlating expense. There is no way to remove expenses from a report all at once. If you decide to break a report into two or accidentally upload the wrong expenses to them you have to move them back to your wallet one at a time. It's a painful experience. There are no clear instructions in the app as to where to start or how to rectify an expense. Often times even when my receipts match my purchases Certify will flag the totals as not matching and reject the expense. This causes a huge delay in getting reimbursed. **Recommendations to others considering Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense):** Check out Abacus - they are the best expense tool I've used yet. They are not a customer-focused company who is concerned with their product or how their customers are treated and focused more on filling their pockets. **What problems is Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense) solving and how is that benefiting you?** Certify has a great sales team, but that seems to be where the customer service ends and loads of issues begin. We spent many weeks researching the best options for what we were looking for in an expense tracking software. We tried several trials and lastly ended with choosing Certify for the job. Talking with our sales rep, it sounded like a dream! He addressed each of our concerns and assured us everything we were looking for was within their app. After we signed the contract, we experienced our first taste of what was to follow in how we were to be treated. We set up our first meeting to get started, and after confirming verbally, via email, and google calendar invite, our Account Manager was a no-show. No, follow up, emails, or calls to let us know either. We waited in the meeting link for 30 minutes before we reached out asking what had happened. The response we received was not of an apologetic one, but more of an “oops, I guess I forgot”. With this sort of response, we asked that an honour would be placed in that if the software was to not work for us, we could exit our contract without a penalty. Our sales rep agreed that this was a reasonable request, and confirmed we would have an exit option without penalty if their software did not work out for us. We contacted our reps and let them know the software was not working for us. We tried, but it left us doing more work than our prior manual process. After requesting our account to be terminated, we were given penalties to be paid for exiting our contract agreement early. We asked why we were being charged after our rep agreed to no penalties, and their answer was that they resolved all of our questions and concerns. So because they gave us information on how to get around their faulty system, we had to pay the penalties for ending the contract. It is very slow, overly complicated, and poorly organized. If you like clicking your mouse, then you might like Certify. I'm guessing you need at least 30 mouse clicks PER RECIEPT (minimum) and that doesn't count the time you'll spend on the mobile app and/or email to send/upload receipts. **Recommendations to others considering Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense):** Just wait for this service to mature, or look elsewhere for something similar. This is far from ready for prime time yet. They spent some time here. **What do you dislike about Emburse Expense Professional (formerly Certify Expense)?** Everything else. The Web app interface is horribly horribly slow if you have a lot of expenses. I was sold something that was great, however they dont fully understand how their product works and while "technically" we can use Certify, It literally takes me a full minute to edit an expense if someone gets a category wrong. They have a handy dandy "merge" feature that matches up receipts to charge, but if you have over 100 receipts THEY TURN IT OFF! Why? No one can answer this nor does anyone have a solution. While they spent a lot of time on the phone app the web app they cut corners or limit you on purpose, Im not sure which. We are a web development company and it appalls me that they have this kind of user experience, and its worse because I am forced to use this now! We are seeing random charges not import into Certify as well, so I have to audit the CC transactions because I cannot trust the system. So I will have to do everything twice! If you have a lot of expenses, or are going to let them pile up, this will hurt. I see there are 99% positive reviews on Certify so I can only think that: 1) We are a too large of a company to be Certify clients 2) We were way oversold on the capabilities of Certify 3) We fit a nice niche where our use case just doesn't mesh with their systems (why did they take our money?) I paid up front for 18 months NEVER DO THIS. We had some important projects going on and let a couple months go by without reconciliation and its taking forever to catch up.
