Works for desktop syncing. Can't set permissions for multiple folders at the same time. **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Mykii L. | Photographer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2020 **What do you like best about Egnyte?** The ease of management of users and groups. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** Two-factor is a bit clunky, causes issues for standard users who don't use two factor. Applying permissions on hierarchy of folders is a nightmare and will definitely accelerate someone like me toward arthritis. Currently you have to set up each individual folder for access (unless you want the same access across all folders via inheritance). So if you want to lock down Folder 1 and its top level of folders, Folders A, B C, D, E, but allow the subfolders of A, B, C, D and E, lets call them A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5, to be editable to a group, you have to go into that folder and individually set each specific folder (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5) with the permissions you want, rather than selecting all of those folders and setting the permissions. You literally could make it in 5 clicks, but instead, you multiply that 5 clicks for each folder you have. So, in my experience, I have to click 300 times, when it should take me 30. Searching and tagging sucks and is ineffective on the desktop. You have to go to the website in order to tag. Searching through tags and content is only done in the Egnyte Connect App, that no user willingly wants to click on to search. Integration needs to be better for tags. **Recommendations to others considering Egnyte:** If you need control over your files without some ridiculous $23k addon to apply permissions and other attributes to multiple files/folders at the same time, look elsewhere. **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** We eliminated the use of a VPN for data access and replaced it with Egnyte. It's nice and easy to manage, but setting it up c ### 4. It also allows me to save documents that can be shared with my editorial team members. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** Egnyte is always failing and won't let me change the names of certain documents. It seems like every time I use it, the program has an error message! **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows me to share editorial documents with my fellow editors and art director. ### 5. User functions are mostly intuitive. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** The sales process was pretty much classic "bait and switch". There were a lot of promises made about set up assistance that turned out to require paying LOTS of extra money. Even the simplest things like AD integration are NOT simple and Egnyte WILL NOT help with them unless you pay more money. Several features are not nearly granular enough for true security. For example, I should be able to have a "view only" access privilege, but the lowest setting is "View and Download", which means anyone who can see a file can also "take" it. I like the basic functionality and Egnyte generally has a much more admin/user friendly GUI than competing products (here's looking at you, Sharepoint/OneDrive!) but the implementation and basic "Pay up or shut up" implementation process left a bad taste in my mouth, such that I will not recommend Egnyte and will move toward switching as soon as there is a comparable competitor. **Recommendations to others considering Egnyte:** Get it in writing! Don't take their promises of support at face value. Once you sign the papers, you are ON YOUR OWN unless you pay them for extra help... and "extra" means ANY. **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** File security and the need for significantly larger on-prem infrastructure **Official Response from Michael Beahm:** > Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. Security okay, document editing a nightmare **Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2020 **What do you like best about Egnyte?** Egnyte's user interface is very straightforward; you can login from anywhere and access a very clear file directory. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** It drives me mad that unlike Google Drive or a virtual private network, Egnyte requires you to download documents, make your edits, and then upload them again. Woe to you should you forget to do that final upload. I much prefer platforms where I can edit and save my changes without having the extra step of uploading it back into Egnyte. **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our institution uses Egnyte as a way of accessing shared drives on our servers remotely. **Official Response from Michael Beahm:** > Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Work, Home, Off site. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** It takes forever to load anything. Every time you click into a folder its not immediate, and you have to wait. It may only be a few seconds but it adds up by the end of the day. **Recommendations to others considering Egnyte:** Make sure you have a team of people to help move over files. Don't leave it up to one person. **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** Access to files from off site locations. Upload from tabletes not just computers. ### 8. Filing structure is basic and easy to navigate. **What do you dislike about Egnyte?** There isn’t an option for multiple users to work in the same document. Very easy to overwrite an original document with very limited ability to go back to an earlier version. **What problems is Egnyte solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy to share documents with other offices and much cleaner than using email. ### 9.
