Video Remote Interpreting or VRI by Effectiff is somewhat similar to over-the-phone (OPI) interpreting; however uses video streaming technology to connect an interpreter, a provider and a client in a 3-way video call. One could say that there is no more powerful technological tool in 2022 than VRI in the language access industry. The ability to physically see both the provider, interpreter and client creates the ability for the interpreter to become an intermediary for each and every encounter, with subject matter expertise. Facial progressions of the client are both physical and social acknowledgements of cultural stock brokerage. This is clearly evident with the deaf and hard of hearing communities.
