customer service, they resolve the issue if any.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There is nothing that i dislike about Edsby software.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with teachers, booking appointments

  ### 2. Perfect for K-12 setup

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rozina M. | LMS Administrator (Edsby) | Middle & High School Math Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

All functions in a school can be digitally managed through Edsby. It take cares of the attendance, class schedules, grades, assessments, parent teacher interviews along with school wide communication.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

User interface and mobile app is not excellent, though it works well.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Highly recommended to carry various K-12 administrative and academic tasks

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to excecute hybrid model of learning well through Edsby. It has made assessment, evaluation and grading transparent and easy for the faculty to administer.

  ### 3. Pandemic Distance Learning

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I love that students can submit their work directly to me via Office365 and their grade book. It is excellent that I can control if parents can message me or not. I also love the ease of use of creating assignments as opposed to in Microsoft Teams.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I do not like that when I am in Grade Book I do not receive messages from my students. Also, having a way for students to collaborate through messaging would be great instead of having to send them to a different software. It is also frustrating that I cannot annotate student work within Edsby.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The integration with Office365 was the biggest benefit. It has been easy to work with students and be able to see if from their perspective as well. I have a split class so the Zoom integration (Go live now) does not work for my situation.

  ### 4. Not perfect - but the best out there!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jon B. | Coordinator of Data Innovation and Administration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Massive functionality. The best integration of SIS and LMS anywhere. Customizable, but the power lies in the easy to use interface. Forget multiple clicks to do a simple task, Edsby is designed for the end users... but has the power in the back end for the administrators :-)

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Support is iffy at best. Sometimes lightning fast, but at other times nothing... cricket. This is really the biggest need for improvement.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

It is a different model of software - changes come fast and furious. The feature rich environment is easy to learn but requires a complete buy-in from the school district. Incremental implementation with Edsby is like pulling a cart with a thoroughbred racehorse...

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There is no other LMS, SIS, portal system with this ease of use, low cost, low overhead, and massive functionality out there. If you're using another product you are wasting people's time and effort... From Portfolios to the Gradebook to Journals, Attendance, Groups, Messaging, Notifications... it really is a powerful school-focused productivity tool.

  ### 5. Edsby review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Setting up is very easy, has fantastic performance, and the end-user experience is excellent. Edsby also provides the most effective communication tool for schools.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There are bugs in some new features like quizzes and polls.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an Education Management Assistant, I find Edsby an excellent office tool for communicating with parents, students, and staff.

  ### 6. Edsby does it all!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyson V. | Superintendent of Learning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby is the best LMS/Learning platform we have used. It integrates all areas of education into 1 large umbrella and does it very well.
It is very easy to use, easy to manage and is full of amazing features. The team is always willing to listen to ideas and make changes to serve their customers which is a rarety in the Education sector.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Sometimes communication is a little slow and there are some oddities to the programming but in time they sort all problems out.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has allowed our families to access everything they need in 1 direction location. Marks, messgaes, report cards, school information, newsletters and more. Everything under 1 roof is HUGE for families.

  ### 7. Edsby and Parents

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I like that I can connect with not only my students but also with parents and colleagues. Edsby enables me to send and receive messages from parents quickly. Additionally, parents can see what we are doing and keep track of their children's progress in real-time.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Files are slow to load sometimes. Also, my school board has not adopted the Report Card aspect of Edsby, so while I can mark and keep track of all my student's achievements, I still have to transfer that to our "board-approved" reporting platform.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Explore all the various capacities of the platform. There are many resources from grading to parent involvement to student attendance to seating plans. I often encourage my colleagues to try new aspects of it in their classroom.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Online learning is less cumbersome because of the experience that both myself and my students had with Edsby. While the transition from in-class to online learning wasn't easy, our familiarity with Edsby made the transition itself easier

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Glad you're making such great use of Edsby, Sean, including advanced things with Edsby groups. More info about groups below, for those who are just discovering them. Appreciate you taking the time to share. Lots of improvements have been made over the summer to online quizzes, FYI. Mobile improvements coming.

  ### 8. Edsby has brought our school together in a time where we need to stay apart.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I appreciate that I can look up any student, staff member, family, activity, grade, or date all in one, convenient location.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The app doesn't work as well as it could.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Take a look around at your other options. You'll find that Edsby brings the most pieces together, in the neatest package, for a reasonable price. Whether you're a large district or a small, private school, they can meet your needs.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've been able to communicate within our teams much better using Edsby. Also, storing grades in one location and exporting it directly to report cards that can be shared directly with parents is fantastic.

  ### 9. Many features, highly functional; a few odd bugs; poor translation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

There are very few teaching tasks I can't do with Edsby. It has a lot of excellent organizational features that help both me and my students. I feel I can rely on it to get my job done almost all the time.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There are a couple of missing features, such as groupwork or group submissions. There are a few odd bugs that seem to result from homegrown implementations of features that have more standard implementations elsewhere. Also, the language switcher function doesn't work and the French is very poorly translated.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Posting work, receiving student submissions, posting feedback, contacting students and parents, sharing content.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for your comments. We feel your pain re: French translation. We've got a full rework of the French Canadian version of Edsby coming. Watch for it soon!

  ### 10. Very pleased with Edsby!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Office D. | A, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby has different aspects that allow for easy when using the app.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Sometimes there are giltches in the app.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

The Edsby feedback team is not as fast in getting back to you on specific issues.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to navigate through different classes. Attendance printing for staff who cannot access a computer.

  ### 11. Fantastic School Resource!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby has been an excellent tool both prior to, and during the pandemic. It meets our needs for internal assessment tracking, internal and external student and parent communication as well as a variety of other added benefits.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Edsby is a vast system and understanding and utilizing all of the features takes a long time.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Analyzing and having critical conversations around student data.

  ### 12. Great option for our small school.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The Edsby platform is easy for both students and staff to learn.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I wish the file sharing capabilities were more robust. I envy the ability of Google Classroom users to easily distribute documents to students that they can complete without downloading a file.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

When we were first looking for an SIS we were discouraged by price tags. Edsby is the only robust platform that we found with affordable options for a small school.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Edsby brought us into the 20th century. It eliminated countless excel sheets, and outlook address boxes. The student panorama is a complete game changer for our staff.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for the comments. Many customers say they love Edsby's Panorama feature. More about it below for those who haven't yet discovered it.

  ### 13. We would be lost without Edsby

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The ease of use and the ability to communicate

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The way the report cards print out on paper

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Be sure to print out for the parents and staff how to log in for the first time

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a better way to communicate with our parents and each other. The collaboration of departments has improved

  ### 14. Excellent, easy to use and efficient

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janet S. | Life Coach/Motivational speaker/teacher, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The cohesion across the school and the ease of using it with google drive

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There were lots of places to do similar things so it sometimes seemed that there was quite a bit of overlap and therefore it took a while to work out the most streamlined way to do things

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Absolutely

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables staff and parents to stay in touch in a much more efficient way

  ### 15. Edsby

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby is very user friendly from the student, teacher, administrator and parent perspective. It allows us to do almost everything within the system. The Edsby team is very supportive and address requests and concerns quickly and efficiently. Most of all, the system is incredibly easy to use and takes very little time to learn. The ability to share content with students and use the tools to gather diagnostic feedback on student progress is important.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There are very few things to dislike. The messaging system is quite simple and the ability to sort messages into folders would be helpful. Also, a separate discussion space within classes would be a great feature. Occasionally, sharing content between classes by teachers is challenging. The only downside is that the system will only be as good as a end user. If students don't use the system to their advantage and teachers don't post effectively, the benefits are not realized.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I have recommended Edsby to many independent schools. I have always been impressed by how easily Edsby fits into the daily routine of our school day and how simple it is to share information and content with students and parents. The attendance features are excellent and the groups are a powerful tool to keep co-curriculars organized. The gradebook feature is also very easy to use and quite powerful.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes communication with students and parents very easy. Parents are kept up to date with their child's progress and know how they are doing in school. All parties are also aware of what is coming up and can use the calendar feature to plan their busy lives. Some of the biggest things we try to teach are time management and organization and Edsby helps to make both easier.

  ### 16. Strong LMS option for Ontario schools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Myke H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The ability to see classes, activities, schedules, parent information, grades, and anecdotal information all in one 'panorama' view.
The ability to connect Ontario curriculum expectations to assessments.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The library feature of resources needs work. Document thumbnails are unclear and organization is challenging.

Some elements of the layout we would like to change but we are not permitted to, even with the highest permissions (for example, Edsby put their own notice in our 'River of News' banner and despite repeated requests to remove it, or allow us to remove it, we were not permitted).

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A 'one stop shop' for student information has allowed faculty members to find out all that they need about their learners.
A comprehensive grade book program.
The ability to see classes and clubs/teams/activities in one area.
Fairly easy navigation and ease of use.

  ### 17. Edsby is a good resource for our students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

What I like best about Edsby the fact I can reach out to my students through the message icon. Receive notification that I have received and email from students.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There isn't anything I dislike about Edsby the website is awesome and again a great resource for our students.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

You will not be disappointed with becoming a member of Edsby

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At this time I do not have any problems resolving with Edsby. The benefits I have realized about Edsby, the website is very reliable for me and the entire staff.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Appreciate the enthusiasm for Edsby and to hear it's been working great for you and your staff.

  ### 18. Like Facebook for education

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The familiar set up. It really is like Facebook.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The size of files that can be uploaded is limiting.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Edsby is like Facebook for your classroom. Post assignments, videos right to students, or links to outside resources. Use the poll feature as a way to stay connected.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am an eLearning teacher. I am using Edsby to stay connected with my students and share learning.

  ### 19. Sooo many bugs!!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Pretty much nothing - After trying to use it more extensively over the past few months - I would prefer to use spreadsheets and email.
The error messages are obscure if you even get one - more often than not, functions simply don't work and no error is given at all

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Help screens are not thorough and often are out of date with the application.
You cannot import or export test questions.
This function should have been implemented 15 to 20 years ago!

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Use Google Classroom or Canvas - or anything else

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's better (barely) than having to collect papers.
Again - I'd just as soon have the students email me their work.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Hmmm. The experience you describe is very different from all the other reviews of Edsby here. Sorry to hear the product somehow missed the mark for you. If you're being required to use Edsby by your district, consider asking your local Edsby prime(s) how best to get it to do what they're wanting you to use it for. Not every Edsby site uses all capabilities of the product or in the same way. Or contact us directly.

  ### 20. MJ PEARSON REVIEW

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Accessibility to information on students.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

students cannot access; lack of training on the program.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

parent/student access

  ### 21. Edsby Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I like that Edsby has an app to accompany it. I also like that it lets me make notes next to a students grade if I need to. I also like being able to see past classes. It also provides a platform to message students privately or as a class. It is also easy to adjust weighting for categories of grades and to copy weighting across classes.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

While I can view past classes, it is a bit difficult and you have to click through several screens to access them. I also wish there was a way to print rosters for all classes at one time, instead of having to print one at a time. The app also has very little functionality in terms of updating grades. I also dislike that Notebook is not a pre-programmed category for grades. I always have to add it as a customized category.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

This program is pretty user friendly and developers have seemed to be willing to make changes over the years as needed. Reach out and let them know if you have suggestions.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to post grades for individual students and I can post announcements for the entire class to see. For example, if students are absent, I can post links to video clips or PowerPoints that they missed in class.

  ### 22. Accessibility With Edbsy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kim P. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby is a wonderful student information management system that continues to remain accessible to teachers, students, and parents alike. As a teacher, Edsby helps to maintain continuous access to current grades, feedback, general announcements, and file sharing so that everyday things such as PDFs, word documents, and videos can be uploaded to enhance student learning. It also facilitates confidential communication between the teacher with students and parents so that any missing work, concerns, requests for conferences, and anything else that may be necessary can be communicated in a timely manner. Overall, Edsby is an extremely helpful student information system that cuts down on paperwork while enhancing communication and feedback.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There is honestly nothing that I dislike about Edsby; they continue to update their capabilities and it is at the point right now where the system is just awesome!

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Edsby is extremely easy to use and can be accessed via laptops and desktops as well as smart phones through the Edbsy app.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Within classrooms, teachers are responsible for many students; this can lead to an inordinate amount of paperwork that must be tracked. Also, student feedback, grades, And a myriad of other critical pieces of information are easily accessible by both students and parents so that the most up-to-date information is available. The availability of up-to-date information is absolutely critical in supporting students in their learning and engagement with school. Through the use of Edsby, communicating with students and parents, keeping track of grades, disseminating information, and sharing other pieces of critical information are done in an easy and quick manner. Furthermore, anything that is shared on Edsby is easily accessible again because it is captured it electronically for future reference

  ### 23. Learners information platform.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Denzel W. | University Lecturer, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Personalisation option for my classes as well as the display of the classe information so as to get any information i need about my class.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The calender is just cumbersome and long time to enter items into it.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Just a good software to connect the students, teachers, the parents and the administration i would highly recommend it.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Post handouts and assignments for my students so as they do not miss out on any assignment and data storage to keep track of students progress.

  ### 24. personalised students information

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phelix O. | University Lecturer, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

First of all i like the connectivity of students, instructors and the school management secondly i love the ability to overview the students report the past ones and current.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The calender entry of items takes really long time and its cumbersome.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I would sincerely recommend this to any instructor looking for a tool to personalise the students class information and uploading academic work.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A platform for students information placement and upload for assignments and class work.

  ### 25. A great way to connect student, teachers, parents and administration in one place.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Very easy to use and intuitive user interface. Report cards, alerts, current grade, attendance, are all right there in one location. We can see where a student is, if he or she was absent for a particular class, whether they have a family or medical alert, and how they are doing in class, with the click of a button.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

No means of displaying community involvement hours. Students find this very frustrating - Edsby gathers info from Maplewood each night, but does not gather community involvement hours, which are mandatory for graduation.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

A great tool with centralized info for students, teachers, parents, and school staff/admin.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy way to disseminate info to all student, or only a select group. Edsby eliminates version confusion, by having a single source for uploading classwork and other materials. It's also a very convenient means for parents to see their child's progress, with assignments and a summary of each class uploaded each day.

  ### 26. Learning Management System for Everyone

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles T. | Director Of Technology, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby is an easy to use Learning Management System that mimics some of the common social networking graphical user interfaces that students and staff use. It has been evolving since it's inception and continues to add new features and capabilities.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

We were an early adopter of the system and so worked with Edsby through some of the initial glitches and missing elements that were needed. While this worked well for the first year we were left out of the loop as they grew and gathered larger customers (Florida) and paid more attention to them. They've circled back and are working with us much more closely now. We are still working to get some things that we need in our district such as standards based grading, some controls on who can delete items in shared containers, and other things that we feel are necessary in a full LMS.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Any evaluation of an LMS must include participation by as many stakeholders as possible. Students should be included but you must not conduct an LMS review and selection without the participation of teaching staff, including those that currently use an LMS, those that are technically savvy, and those that have not used an LMS or struggle a little bit with technology. This overall and well rounded review committee will help you to identify the best solution for your district. In our reviews I do not include those staff that are heavily resistant to change, new things, technology, or shifts in their own instructional approach as they are going to bog down the process and you will not move them by including them. You can move the middle ground staff and you should use your super stars to facilitate that.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Edsby to provide instruction, interaction, and classroom engagement beyond the brick and mortar school for our students. This is not our main system of record for grades or attendance but connectivity between Edsby and our SIS is possible (and we do some of this but are working on tighter integration).

  ### 27. Excellent program for communication with parents and students about all areas of life at school.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

This program has made it so that teachers don't have to send weekly or monthly updates because parents have access to daily updates as to how their son or daughter is doing in the class. Students also have the ability to access information from class when they miss a class period. Parents appreciate the ability to communicate with staff and see a calendar of the is happening in classes concerning tests and assignments.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

One of the biggest dislikes is not in the program, but the fact that parents don't log on and check the progress of their child. There is nothing in the program itself which causes great stress to our staff.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

This is a valuable tool for any school who wants to increase communication with parents and students. It teaches students responsibility rather than accountability since they have everything they need.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This allows for more frequent communication with staff, students and parents. This has also take care of the issue of students missing a class or losing a handout, now they can upload anything which was handed out in class.

  ### 28. A user-friendly tool for almost everything

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

That everything is easy to use and intuitive, and all in the same place. Working from the admin level, I have experienced good support from the support team, and always prompt responses. The portfolio piece is one that we are continuing to experiment with.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

That data is not easily found and analyzed. There seems to be a lot of analytics to work with, but I want to be able to easily pull it into a spreadsheet and manipulate it to get answers. This isn't as user-friendly as I would like for it to be.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I would suggest that this is a really good option for schools looking to put all of their data together in one place. If you want to have a one-stop shop for parents, students, and teachers to get their information, then this is a really great option. It is a difficult transition perhaps, but in one year a staff can be using it at a very high level - parent buy in may take some more time. I would be ready to expect a two or three year period for parents to become familiar with this, and perhaps longer. There are so many good things about it, but it does take time to get used to.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with parents and students. We are using most of the functionality of the software to send messages, and communicate about assessments and class content with students.

  ### 29. A useful LMS that has tight SIS integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew D. | IT Manager, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I like that Edsby is constantly rolling out new features and is adding new customizations. With the addition of the PTI scheduler and the new attendance, calendar and LTI integration, Edsby has become a very full featured product. I look forward to the addition of OnSIS reporting and transcript printing as a way to make Edsby a truly full featured SIS replacement.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

With some of the new features, they are not fully documented and they also break/disable currently working features. While support is able to help, there need to be more top-level support staff in the organization that can provide more direct support. I also don't like how the Dev team has so much control over the support process. Dev has frequently held up support tickets due to issues they are working on and this hinders my workflow. There is also infrequent communication around system features that are not currently working.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Make sure your SIS is supported and that you have clear goals in mind in regards to implementation with your staff, student, teachers, administrators and students. By having these clear goals, you will have a much easier time assigning responsibilities for the product.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to provide better information access to our parents and also to allow a more seamless experience by bundling common information into the same portal. This allows our parents to see a fulsome picture of their child's performance and indicators.

  ### 30. Everything all together for teachers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby is like Facebook for teachers. I like how everything is all together and you get a snapshot of what's going on in your 'feed'

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I dislike how students don't interact with us through the application but I believe that is something that the school can regulate and choose.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I think it is so easy to use, and totally worth it for a teachers.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like I said it keep everything all together so there is no switching between programs for things like inputting marks, attendance, groups.

  ### 31. Fine for the basics, but clunky

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John D. | Professor of English and Literature, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

It allows teachers to communicate grades and concerns to parents with general ease.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The communication tools (for parents to email teachers, etc.) are difficult to find at first, and then when you do, they are not as fluid as email-only apps or programs.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Be aware that its various screens sometimes take time to load.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Once parents know how to use it, they generally are satisfied with the level of communication it provides. It also will show if a teacher is being proficient with assessment.

  ### 32. Love it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I like the interface, it's very user-friendly. Similar to facebook so most people can figure it out quickly. I deal with hundreds of parents every day, most of whom are not very tech-savvy, and they all use Edsby without a problem.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

There isn't much to say here. If I have something I dislike, I communicate with the customer service team and they fix it! They are amazing!

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Do it! Edsby has been a game-changer for our school. I wish my daughters' school had it!

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

COMMUNICATION! Edsby makes communication so easy, with parents, staff, and students. Students are held more accountable for their work, and parents feel at ease knowing they can monitor their students' progress along the way.

  ### 33. Student and Teacher classroom experience enhanced by Edsby

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan A. | Curriculum and EdTech Director, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

For teachers, the gradebook and report writing are big wins. They make this paperwork efficient and for me that means more time for face-to-face time with students and more time to be creative with lessons. The ability to link websites, and documents to lessons and homework keeps resources handy to both me and a student.
Students benefit from knowing what is going on in class and their homework even when they miss class.
Lesson planning, homework, and how much information is shared with students and parents can be determined by schools. There are many possibilities for curriculum development and recording.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Updates happen overnight which for the most part is good - once and a while features change slightly with out notice (ie. Search will behave differently suddenly).

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Be sure to invest in staff training and getting teachers excited about how it can help them be effective and efficient.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The effective and efficient creation of report cards. The first time through report writing was onerous as the customizations and process needed tweaking, however, since then benefits such as ease of the teacher tasks, and deadlines being met consistency are being seen.

  ### 34. Edsby makes it easy to keep our community connected and informed, essential tool for staff

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda D. | Founder and Principal, Primary/Secondary Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby's interface is easy to navigate, making it accessible for families that may not be tech savvy, but offers a ton of advanced functions that makes it an essential tool for our staff. Staying current and being innovative in education is a priority for our school, and Edsby fits in well with that model. They seek constant feedback from users and continue to add new features to meet our needs.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

We are in a uniques position because we are a small school - we do not have another SMS to sync users and so we have to input new users manually. We've managed though - it's a small inconvenience compared to the value we get from using Edsby.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Edsby offers extensive functions and features to all users which can be intimidating at first, especially for teachers who may not have previous experience with an LMS. Don't be afraid to jump in and start small - once you get started you will quickly find the best ways to make it work for you Reach out to Edsby support - they offer the best in customer support I have experienced.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we started our school, we were very small and so regular and effective communication with families was easy and became one of the aspects parents appreciated most about our school. As we grew it became harder to maintain the level of communication we established, but we quickly realized that this was integral to student success and something we wanted to continue to offer our families. Edsby made it possible for us to stay connected with families, and even helped us to improve communication amongst our whole school community.

  ### 35. Great customer service and attention to detail with Edsby

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Edsby have been excellent partners with us as we aim to create our online community and internal assessment database. They are quick to respond to our every need and have been thus far able to fulfill all of our requests.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The functionality of the app could be improved to greater mirror the desktop version.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

They will work closely with you to customize the site to your needs.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have realized that paperwork has been reduced and that communication is quick and seamless between many stakeholders. Efficiency has improved.

  ### 36. Good product. Improving incrementally

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian T. | Director of Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Strongly aligned with our regulator's requirements. Cloud hosted. Easy interface. Synchronizes nightly with our SIS. SSO with Google and our AD. One stop shopping.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Features often rolled out with little warning. Not all new features are fully vetted and tested before being deployed. Non -customizable user roles. Hard to pull reports off of back end. Difficulty in creating parent accounts as they are currently listed as contacts and need to be invited to become parents. No way to export calendars from Edsby calendars to gCal.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Report cards are an iterative process. Limited documentation available for all features.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LMS, gradebook, attendance, report cards, parent-teacher conference scheduling, internal communication. Marked decrease in amount of internal emails.

  ### 37. Strong Product, Could use more responsive support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

This is a very capable product. It has strengths in data management for sure.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Some of the UX Design is cluttered and non-intuitive. With the userbase of the application having such a wide range of navigational skills, it could use some work making pathways clearer.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've begun to leverage the home - school communication in Edsby after having worked with secondary report cards and gradebook.

  ### 38. Can be good, when you type it right the first time!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

It has great potential to help me and my children stay on top of assignment and grades.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Messaging is a complete mess!

All last year, I kept trying to contact teachers or administration at my child's middle school, and if I noticed an error in my wording or a typo, heaven forbid I try to go back and fix it! Once I went back, there was no returning to the end of the paragraph again. It was beyond frustrating. It was not user intuitive, either. It would take a while to figure out where to go to email a specific teacher, see homework assignments, and see grades. All of this is from the Edsby app, I'd like to add -- which is the only way I have been able to view Edsby. All on my iPhone.

My students seem to be able to log in and view what they need to view, but it's also near impossible to find certain assignments or instructions if they have to go back in the class thread a bit. I'm speaking of the class conversations.

I also wish more teachers were able to update it more frequently. More than half of the teachers don't update until the last minute (perhaps it is just as much of a pain on their end?). If it worked as well as it says it should, and if all the teachers would use it, it would be a great program.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I would research other programs to make sure they have a better communication system behind it. Again, being user intuitive is key!

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping parents informed and creating a hub for students to find assignments, gather more information, and contact teachers for both students and parents

  ### 39. Great LMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avital A. | Director of Ed Tech, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Ease of use, comprehensive, everything in one place.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Need to allow to message students only without parents

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Only the above issue

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for your review. We made the design decision to not allow teachers to message all their students for the same reason that Facebook doesn't let users spam their whole friends list with personal messages--they, and we, want users to use the "post a note to your class," the equivalent of posting something to your personal wall in Facebook--to reach everybody. The rationale? In both platforms, everybody is always checking their their social feed. Always. And everybody is tired of mailbox clutter. That said, there have been more requests for this capability and some new, emerging reasons for us to include it, so there's a good chance you may see it in Edsby in the future, even if Facebook doesn't. Thanks again for your comments!

  ### 40. Edsby has been a great tool for our school community, esp. for parent and student communication.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The immediate feedback that students get with respect to assessments and evaluations.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The inability to add teachers to the current roster, such as short term supply teachers that are not officially awarded an LTO and directly assigned classes

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Parental engagement has increased exponentially since Edsby has been implemented. Students now are aware of their marks immediately, and can also be proactive in assignment completion and test preparation.

  ### 41. Great for Helpdesk staff

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I really like the ability to search for student names knowing only a portion of any part of their name. Knowing their grade during the search helps me greatly as well as the info panel giving me demographics.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I should have the ability to turn different panels off. Such as grades. I don't need to see that and would like the ability to turn panels off.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using Edsby to look up student information quickly. I have other means to find the same information, but Edsby presents it in the same place for me. It saves me time, and most of the information is on one page. I'm not opening multiple applications or browsing via multiple pages to find what I need.

  ### 42. Edsby is not as user friendly as one would hope.

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I like that I can easily post homework assignments and documents for my students to access.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I dislike that when I create a unit under the planner section, and I decided that the assignment is going to be Formative and not contribute the a student's average, Edsby lists this assignment as "ungraded" when that is not the case. Many times I assignment homework that is "read chapter 3" or "print this worksheet"." These assignments do not receive a letter grade and, therefore, should not be listed as "ungraded."
I also have issues with creating and assigning a test for my students to take on Edsby:
1. I have to keep opening and reopening the test for students who happen to be absent on the day of the test. This creates extra, unnecessarily columns in my gradebook and confuses my students.
2. When students are asked to answer a short answer, the is essentially impossible and I have to go back and recheck each response because if they miss a punctuation mark, spell something wrong, or even don't capitalize something, or write it word for word exactly, it marks the answer as wrong. It is my understanding that this was designed to make grading easier and faster when it does not do this.

Finally, I dislike the way there is not an option to undo something when entering grades in the gradebook.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Really make sure you receive a training and then subsequent training for help.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for my classroom and not for a business. IIt also can be very slow around grading times.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for taking the time to review Edsby. Your two points about online testing in Edsby are valid: having to administer separate copies of a test for students who happen to be absent for the original is a known shortcoming... and short answers needing to be character-accurate is another source of frustration for some teachers who use that question type (luckily, there's a workaround for the latter by simply using a different question type.) Watch for both of these to get attention in the future.

Undo on gradebook entries is an often-requested feature. You're not alone! I shared with our engineering team just this week how a number of other teachers have started asking for it, so expect it to be addressed soon.

To your point about formative assessments in the Edsby gradebook, good news: there are actually much easier and simpler ways in Edsby today to assign formative tasks not intended to contribute to a student's grade. If this is one of your biggest points of frustration with Edsby, write me directly at dallas@edsby.com and I'll guide you to how to achieve this much more easily.

  ### 43. Edsby is on its way to becoming a comprehensive LMS hub

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Capability to share classroom info and communicate with parents

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Interface is not as user-friendly as some other LMS being used by colleagues, and there is no integration of superior features offered by G Classroom (I.e. Doctapus, Goobric, commenting / correction features of G Docs, etc)

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

I would tell them to try it, because I believe that it holds a lot of potential to help school communities communicate important information better, and I hope that with more feedback from real classroom teachers, the LMS and assessment features can be improved

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None as of yet. Still waiting for complete roll-out of all features at all schools.

  ### 44. Friendly interface, many tools

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah H. | Teacher, Primary/Secondary Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

There are so many tools and functionalities in Edsby. I am still discovering many of them, but everything has purpose and use for an educator.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

On the mobile app there are no notifications.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with parents and students is seamless. If I am making notes about a student's progress on their profile, it is easy to send their parent a message right afterward.

  ### 45. Efficient two-way communication

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Ability to post messages to groups of students or supporters.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Inability to add people to a conversation.
Inability to create a read-only group that can be viewed by people outside of our organization.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficient two-way communication

  ### 46. Edsby is what I've been looking for for 10years

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron S. | Lecturer, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The wall is fantastic. It allows me to push information, links and attachments. The format is familiar to teachers parents and students.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Some of the aspects of the weighting system in the gradebook are not as transparent as I would like.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it exclusively for education and cant really comment on buisiness.

  ### 47. Essential Communications System for Schools

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

This all in one learning management system is an excellent way to connect all aspects of school life. It is K-12 friendly and allows for the schiil community to be involved in the success of all involved.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

The system lacks some flexibility in the view options for the calender/planner, so it's challenging to use as it isn't very flexible.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Jump in from the beginning and get everyone onboard by selling them the time they will save and the benefits of whole school platforms that work with you.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Edsby allows us to communicate easily and consistently across all avenues of the school. We all benefit from using the same system and exploring it together. The learning curve is excellent and the support is fantastic.

  ### 48. Learning platform with great potential

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

The interface is quite easy to navigate and has a Facebook-like feel to it. It integrates relatively well with our SIS.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Edsby needs more time to mature into a full fledged LMS. Certain functionalities like discussion boards and other online learning tools are absent.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

Be diligent and do a needs analysis with all related departments and evaluate all other LMSes.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Edsby has helped us to amalgamate and integrate certain systems that were previously disparate. This has streamlined certain processed and made things simpler to manage.

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for your review. You suggested discussion boards are absent from Edsby. Does your district not use Edsby's groups? Edsby groups are Edsby's more powerful version of discussion boards, and have their own file libraries, staff moderators, knowledge base (Wiki-style FAQs), planners for curriculum development and more.

Edsby groups can be set up for ad hoc groups of students, or students/parents/teachers. They're great for teams or clubs. Or for school-level professional development (e.g. all English teachers in a school) or district-level PD and collaboration (e.g. all grade 7 math teachers in the district). Students, teacher and parents can even be automatically added and removed as they come and go from your district, without any human involvement. Edsby's group features are described here on our website: http://www.edsby.com/technical-details/group-collaboration/

If you had a moment to share other capabilities that you believe are absent, perhaps we could address those, too?

  ### 49. Excellent grade management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

Grade management and “Facebook” like environment.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

Loading issues at times. I also feel the quiz features in OneNote are more useful.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with stakeholders.

  ### 50. An Excellent Mutipurpose Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Edsby?**

I love the portfolio feature. It is a great way to share a snapshot of what the student is doing with other teachers, administrators, and parents.
I also love that it gives the students a safe social media introduction.

**What do you dislike about Edsby?**

I can't seem to create rubrics.
Some documentation is missing.

**Recommendations to others considering Edsby:**

The support I have received is second to none. All issues are addressed same day.

**What problems is Edsby solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows effective communication with parents and allows us to keep all paperwork online!

**Official Response from Dallas Kachan:**

> Thanks for the review. Did you know rubrics are created in your personal folder in Edsby? Here's a how-to on the subject: http://www.edsby.com/?help=gradebook-2-3/rubrics-2-2
