Its free to use and download. Its licensing system is quite free and anyone can use it for personal as well as commercial usage. It gets an early release in which new features and supports keeps getting added. It is a single IDE which supports multiple language support. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** This used to be my favourite software however nowadays, all the developers have moved to IntelliIjdea cause eclipse is quite heave and prone to lot of crashing. I have also seen it taking lot of RAM and causing memory issues. It is not suited to write programs or apps in angular or react or VUE. The javascript library support is also missing, overall this is good only for back end development. Has so many add-ons to fit other languages such as c / c++, python, etc. Using the API, you have access to another application. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** The RAM usage is quite high, it takes too long to start a new project and set it up, error stacks in the console don't offer the root of the error, or the right description of the error. Code format should be, and in some cases user should take care of indentation otherwise code can maliciously work. It is nice that it supports a multitude of languages and has support for a lot of third-party tools. Considering it is open source software, the quality and frequency of updates is astounding. Auto-completion is working great with the new machine-learning-based approach. Mylyn is also great once it's configured properly. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** All the feature overload makes Eclipse rather slow and the UI sometimes hard to understand. Support was pretty good as there were lot of developers using it. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** It did not have support for Scala development. It was slow at times. Project view was cluttered if I was working on too many projects at the same time. Closing the projects feature was not as useful for me. There is no terminal as view in eclipse - this will cause lot of back and forth when working on some projects if I were to use terminal. **Recommendations to others considering Eclipse:** If you want to work on multiple programming languages like Java and Scala, I would recommend using Intellij as it has a good support for both languages. It does a nice job with add-ons, especially running servers within the IDE for web app development. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** I'm not a big fan of how slow it is. Easy to customize and integrate with many environments. Integrates with Tomcat, Spring Boot, Ivy, Ant, Mavent, and other major libraries. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** Tends to be very slow and clunky, feels very bloated. Massive memory needs. Difficult to configure multiple JVM versions on eclipse. **Recommendations to others considering Eclipse:** Consider using Intellij if selecting an IDE. The amount of customization is impressive. The ability to install plugins from multiple vendors is nice. Debugging is easy. **What do you dislike about Eclipse?** How slow the product can be at times. It uses a ton of memory. Needing to change the java settings can be frustrating for a normal user. **Recommendations to others considering Eclipse:** It gets the job done but it requires a lot of resources on your PC to run. Even with additional resources it can be slow. Tweaking the java settings can be frustrating for optimal performance. **What problems is Eclipse solving and how is that benefiting you?** Use it as a platform and install a business rules engine over top of it. Every time that you close and open, it takes not less than 2 minutes til you can start working. It's true that it has many plugins that help you from time to time but then you get a penalty in terms of performance. **Recommendations to others considering Eclipse:** There are other solutions for development lighter than Eclipse that can solve the same issues. Its nice that you can access everything via GUI but dumb in how you need to look it up and FIND out how to change and configure it. I do this way more often than in other editors and this is sometimes this is what bugs me the most about Eclipse. **Recommendations to others considering Eclipse:** Use if you know how to use it, else just go with something more user friendly. I myself prefer Webstorm. **What problems is Eclipse solving and how is that benefiting you?** Eclipse was the GO-TO program that I used during my four years as an undergraduate in University for learning the languages JAVA, and SPARK projects. Through this application, I was able to build my own compiler, android application, and boggle game to just name a few projects from school. I still currently use this application at my currently company and even though it has some set backs its one of the more highly documented applications out there. Therefore, if you get into a problem or rut, you can google it and see that 9/10 there's someone out there who got the same issue with Eclipse and someone out there who has solved it. ### 46.
