I am able to quickly send a message to students to get them to log onto our meet link. I am also able to see what students are doing and whether they are off task even if they are not in the physical classroom with me. ### 2. We love being able to monitor their chromebooks. Especially today, with half of our students virtual learning and half of our students in school - and all of our students are doing the majority of their work on chromebooks. This is a game changer. I use the "allow only" feature the most, and have a variety of saved plans that make locking down their chromebooks quick and easy. So far, the kids have only found one workaround, but it's still easy to see when they're trying to use that workaround. They like to have two web browser windows side by side - we can only see one window at a time on our dyknow home page. But, they chromebook window looks large and disorted when they're doing that. We can't see what they're doing on that second window, but we can see that they have two windows open and they are probably off task. Also, using the "allow only" feature keeps them only on the websites you are allowing at that time. One of my favorite parts of this is sending custom messages to the kids when they're off task. I like to joke with them and "troll" them a bit. It's also nice to send positive reinforcement too, especially to my kids who are home. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** The only downside that we have found so far is when they have two windows open side by side. We can only see what they are doing on one window on our teacher homescreens. However, their screen is like zoomed in and looks different. But, you can see that their screen is different and recognize that they have two windows and are probably off task in that second window, and you can redirect them. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** Buy this as soon as possible! You will not regret it. Total game changer for keeping your students on task. Our students are engaged, participating, and learning so much more as a result of this program. We are so happy with this program. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Chromebooks are a huge distraction for our students. They have the world at their fingertips, and it's hard to avoid that temptation. Before using this program, it was essentially impossible to keep an entire class on task. Especially today, with nearly all of our classwork, instruction, and activities are online. The benefits are incredible - our students are much more on task, so they are listening and working more, so they are learning more. That's what we are here for. :) ### 3. Because of how our desks are positioned, I cannot physically see each screen and students will often open a different browser. I have found students to be listening to music on YouTube during class, surfing the web for images on Google, and even using web searches to to look up answers on assessments. It's particularly helpful in controlling the students' access to the device during class. When they are particularly distracted, I can block their access to certain websites and even lock the device for a specific or indefinite amount of time. I use Nearpod for my interactive lessons, and DyKnow allows me to send a web link to the lesson and immediately logs all of my students into the lesson. It makes for a quick and smooth transition from morning announcements to the beginning of our lesson. Additionally, I can have them join Quizziz, Kahoot, practically any application by sending them the link in the same manner. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I would like for the students to have the option to send me a private message, and view their screens in real time instead of snapshots every 15 seconds. I have used a different application that allows real time streaming of each student's screen. I also don't like how it sometimes ends a monitoring session after a specific amount of time. Sometimes, the session ends before my class period, and I will have to start a new session. I would also like to be able to see the students' browsing history before I end the session. If this feature is available, then I just don't know how to use it. None of these are deal breakers, and overall I think it's a great program to have. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** I would suggest that you demo the software to see if it has the features that are going to meet your daily needs. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use this for a classroom, so I'm not solving any business problems with it. ### 4. It gives them quick access to ensure students are on task, and allows them to block apps or sites in real time to redirect behavior. User management is very easy for us, and we've had zero issues with service downtime. DyKnow also supports options for students to privately communicate with the teacher on their comfort level with the current classroom topic, although this feature is heavily overshadowed by the monitoring capabilities. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** We get virtually no complaints from any of our users about DyKnow's effectiveness or capabilities - it's really a well-designed tool. From a deployment and management standpoint, the fact that DyKnow hashes their process identifiers makes it impossible to whitelist in our environment. While this may be a minor inconvenience when compared to the benefit the service provides, it does have far-reaching implications in how we can distribute and manage all the other software in our district. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** There's not much to say beyond recommending you try it for yourself. I can't imagine a K-12 environment where DyKnow wouldn't be a huge help. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are one to one at all grade levels, and as with any K-12 organization, we deal with a tremendous amount of distracted students day in and day out. Without a good monitoring solution, teachers had to almost constantly patrol the classroom to try and spot students who were off-task. DyKnow lets them stop babysitting and carry on teaching. ### 5. The blocking (white list/black list) does not work well. Students can get blocked out of things they need to be doing. I would love to be able to just kick a kid off what they are doing rather than add it to a blocking plan. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** We got Dyknow because students were on all kinds of other things than the site they were supposed to be on. I spent way too much time monitoring that rather than teaching a lesson. I can now teach and the students understand that I can go back AFTER class to detect if they were on something they were not supposed to be on. It is a fabulous program. I utilize all of the features. I love the messaging, the feedback button, and I love that I can see exactly what they are doing while I am teaching. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I don't like that I can't shut their computers down if they aren't doing the right thing repeatedly. When students have difficulty getting to the right place I can see where they are making their mistakes and help them, but sometimes they need to shut down and start over. It would be helpful to just be able to remotely control their computer and do that for them. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** Definitely make sure you understand how to use it before you start using it. The blocking programs are a huge help if you want people to be in a certain place. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to troubleshoot with students when they cannot get to the right place from afar as I am virtual teaching. When students have difficulty getting to the right place I can see where they are making their mistakes and help them, but sometimes they need to shut down and start over. It would be helpful to just be able to remotely control their computer and do that for them. The biggest benefit is being able to virtually assist them to get to the right place. ### 7. Super helpful with the ones who may have emotion management problems. I find this really helpful during Virtual Learning, as it answers the question of "Are my students engaged? Are they paying attention?" I like that I can block certain sites (like YouTube) so students are not tempted with distractions during the lesson. I also like that I can see what they are doing so when they are takinga quiz, I can know if they are being honest or cheating with another tab open. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I wish the little screens (when you have all the students pictured on screen) would update every 15 seconds like when you have an individual student pulled up. I am appreciative of being able to monitor students when I am not at school. It's helpful to be able to share information and sites, answer questions for students who need that. It's especially helpful to be able to block some sites. This tool makes being online so much safer and more efficient. Thank you! **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** We still have trouble telling when students are cheating. They seem to be doing this by appearing to be online (on the test sites like MasteryConnect, etc) while another student is signed in on my student's login (so it shows up on Dy'know) and cheats for them. I just watched a student having a Google Doc conversation with another student (who might be at another school!) via sharing. I didn't know how to block that without knocking everyone else off Chromebooks. (I finally shut the student down.) **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** Use this great tool. I love that I can block site after site. I also have found this a great way to help students even when I am not in the room. I have helped other teachers by monitoring students in their rooms when they happen not to be logged into Dy'know. ### 9. Occasionally I send a message to a student and forget to automatically unlock them and then I have trouble unlocking their screen. I like to monitor my students and keep them on task. I use this tool for students to show me work and to be able to communicate with. With Dyknow I can not only see if they are on task, but I can also help trouble shoot when they are having issues with logging in to certain programs or get errors that they don't understand. I also appreciate that I can push out a link and it opens automatically on my students' chromebooks (both in person and virtual.) **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I wish there was a way for a student to answer back when I send out a message other than just the "got it." **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping students on task. It's also been great that I can have my paraeducators on the system too. It would be nice to be able to have more that 2 teachers as we are a team of 3. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I don't know if this is a district problem or a DYKnow problem but classes keep ending way too early in the system. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** OH my goodness! So many. I teach HS Life Skills. The students read at k-2 level. Just the ability to type in a message reminding them of login info and/or passwords; sending them links to other platforms and see what they are seeing has been irreplaceable to our progress. ### 21. The only issue is the occasional crash. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Students these days are sneaky. They've discovered how to download games onto their computers that were previously blocked, they know far more than I did at their age. Dyknow allows me to see everything they're doing without them remembering that I have a constant eye one them. Recently I discovered another great use. I saw a student was making a mistake while during distance learning and was able to send him a message to correct him. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** The only downside is that the program refreshes the image of the students screen only every minute or so. This is not much of a problem, since you do not need it to update more often and it saves bandwidth and processing power by updating less often. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Since every student in my school has a computer it is hard to know if they are on task all the time. With Dyknow it is much easier to monitor what the students are doing than it was before I had Dyknow. ### 34. In a time where social distancing is extremely important, being able to monitor my students is necessary more than ever, usually, I walk around my classroom and observe. However, when I have to maintain 6 feet, in a class of 28, I don't have the space to do that! DYKNOW has helped me a lot. It also allows me to send reminders and notes over the application. I can remind students to join zoom, message positive reinforcement, or hints about assignments. I can see their screens and the areas the students have questions about the work they are completing. It is really amazing. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I don't dislike much about the application, my only dislike is that students cannot message me back if I send them something. It would be great to create private communication between the teacher and the student. Many students have severe social anxiety and dislike talking in front of a crowd of their peers. I think this would solve a lot of issues. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** One problem that I have solved with DYKNOW is student attention, work quality, and communication. I am able to send reminders, keep students engaged, and provide feedback all in one application. If I notice a student doing something off task, I can block the website, I can send a notification, and I can even report it to their parents by screenshotting the report after class.
