I use the option to send individual messages more than anything, especially when I notice a student who is supposed to be working with me playing games and video chatting with their friends. I sometimes wish I could see the look on their face when their game gets paused and the link to my virtual class automatically opens **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** Of course, students being students, have found some ways to circumvent Dyknow. Ultimately though, I've decided if they are that dedicated to ignoring me, I'll just leave them to it. Some students have said they feel as if their teachers are just spying on them and being the Chromebook police. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using Dyknow to direct (and redirect) students has oddly increased their motivation. When students know that I have the ability to see what tabs they actively have open during class, they tend to stick with the class content better. While again some complain that they are being policed, the same students have also said that it has really helped them keep up in class. ### 2. It is quite inconvenient when a previous teacher forgets to stop tracking a group of students when I need to begin. A solution to this is allowing multiple teachers to monitor actively simultaneously. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** The empowerment that this software provides teachers to take back classroom instructional time is definitely worth the cost. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Dyknow. I have been able to curb off-task student technology use by seeing exactly what students are doing or accessing on their screens. I often looked at internet history and saw that students had been playing a game during the entire class, which is very frustrating. It can be set up to always be on so the teacher does not have to remember to launch the software at the beginning of a class. It allows the teacher to limit specific websites from being launched. It can direct message students so a teacher can send a link in a chat message to all students or select students to access that site with a click. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I really don't have anything negative to share. We have used this product for years and our teachers really like it. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** Compare DyKnow to other classroom management solutions, and you will find that they offer essential features without trying to sell you over-the-top features classroom teachers don't need. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows us to filter out the web and only allow access to specific sites to have students take tests and quizzes in a secure environment where they can't open a tab and Google the answer to a question. It also allows our teachers to monitor class activity online and see the students who may be off task. ### 5. It helps stop and fix mistakes before the students submit their work. It also allows me not to stand over the students checking their work during Covid. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I don't like that its not a live version like apple classroom. I hate that it takes time to update. During class this isn't as much a problem but during assessments or when I am trying to make sure students don't cheat then the refresh rate takes forever. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Its been very helpful during covid when I need to maintain distance from my students but I still need to see what they are doing. It also helps with the shy students that never ask for help. I can peek at their work and call them to me if needed. ### 6. I can't open two classes at once, without having to permanently combine the class. It takes a long time to open the student's screens. I can't block a page just for that student. IF a student logs out of their Chromebook they are no longer logged in and they have to click on log back into Dyknow. I can't schedule the classes to start and stop when needed. It doesn't save messages between teacher and student. That's all I can think about at the moment. Students are learning how to go around Dyknow by opening other programs. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** For schools it is a waste of time, currently. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Several of the above have been sent to Dyknow reps. I would like to be able to group and rearrange thumbnails with drag and drop. Using DyKnow replaces walking around the studio for knowing when scholars are off track or need individual attention. I was able to log in and start using it immediately without a tutorial. I like the fact that I was able to combine my class with ease. Remote learning has made this an important factor because single classes were separated. I love the fact that I am able to send my students messages directly to their screen and know if they receive it. Also being able to block student from certain websites really assist with making students remain focused. I also like that I am able to "take" my current students from another teacher if they have forgotten to release them without having to contact another teacher. I also enjoy being able to talk a student through a process because I can see exactly what they are doing on their screen and what is on the screen. Dyknow has really made it so much more manageable to teach during such trying times. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** The only thing I would say is the lag time. I would love to be able to see the student's activity in real time. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** Classroom managment and assisting students with navigation as well. I have realized that is extremely beneficial when helping students navigate through different applications that they are having difficulty with. I also like that I can send out positive messages to them as a way to keep them motivated. ### 25. It also gives a transcript of everything they went on and the time spent once you close the monitoring session. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** Everything is great about Dyknow except it only allows you to monitor students that are in your PowerSchool roster. I also do tutoring and intervention time. Since this is not an actual class, I cannot monitor or help those students because they are not listed with me. Another issue is that it is not live monitoring. It refreshes every 15 seconds. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** If you want a product in real time, this may not be the best fit but overall, it is better and way less glitchy than other programs I have used that monitor students computer use. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to keep students on task and assist them with technical issues since I am teaching virtually. I am also able to gather evidence to assist when I am conferencing with students and parents. ### 26. The Real-Time Activity Tracker is great to see how many kids are on certain sites and pick out a student or two who are on sites they shouldn't be. I also like being able to send a private message to a student who is off task. Freezing a screen is also extremely helpful. I also liked that I was able to combine some classes and rename them. I love that I can set up "Blocking Plans" that can allow me to permanently block certain sites, like YouTube. I can also set up plans that only allow my students to be on a singular site at one time. This is great when students need to be focused or testing! **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I wish my teaching partner and I could be monitoring students at the same time. I also wish that even my student's specials teachers were able to have access to these as well. Also, there should be more "how to" videos. There are aspects of this that I had to just figure out over time and it would have been more helpful to have some videos to explain and elaborate on different features of Dyknow. **Recommendations to others considering Dyknow Classroom:** As a teacher, I found a couple of snafus with setting up Dyknow, which were no fault of the company, but the fault of my school district. Make sure that your tech person has your students linked with their emails in order for Dyknow to work. **What problems is Dyknow Classroom solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm able to keep my students on task while doing remote learning. I like being able to send them a message to get back to what they were actually being asked to do. ### 27. I've had no problems setting up groups and everything is right there for me to see. When first starting to use DyKnow, I referenced the help videos several times and they were easy to follow and informative. I haven't had a problem with the software yet and it gives me confidence that my students are on task without a running verbal dialogue from me to keep them there. I can privately let them know I'm with them and use this information to verify who is working toward mastery and who may need a little more help. **What do you dislike about Dyknow Classroom?** I worry that things are in such a minimalist userface, that the temptation might be to add on and expand what the software can do and its uses. It allows the user to see the screen of students, send them messages to refocus, create blocking plans for certain times, allows co-teachers, and is effective at restricting materials.
