## About DSGVO-KI-Filter
DSGVO-KI-Filter is a browser-based tool that replaces personal data in documents with placeholder tokens before the text is sent to an AI service such as ChatGPT, Claude or Azure OpenAI. All processing happens locally in the browser: nothing is uploaded and nothing is transmitted to a server before pseudonymization. This can be verified directly in the browser's network tab, so users do not have to take a privacy promise on faith - they can check that no request goes out. The detector recognizes names of people and organisations, addresses, IBANs, tax, VAT and company register numbers, national ID numbers and reference numbers, with detection patterns tailored to Austrian and German data formats. Supported file types are PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, HTML and plain text; scanned or image-only PDFs are not supported, since the tool does not perform OCR. Across several documents, the same original value always receives the same token. This keeps records comparable: an AI can match, compare and cross-check multiple documents without ever seeing a real name, address or account number. After the AI's reply comes back, the tokens are mapped back to the original values locally in the browser, with no manual bookkeeping. Multiple documents per session require a paid plan. Paid plans also add format-preserving DOCX/ODT export, encrypted tokens (AES-256-GCM), column selection for XLSX/PDF/CSV, a higher monthly AI request quota and an ad-free interface. The free plan can be used indefinitely without registration and already includes all detection types. DSGVO-KI-Filter runs as an installable, offline-capable progressive web app - no download or setup required to start. It supports GDPR-compliant workflows and is aimed at organisations that regularly send documents containing personal data to AI services: public administration, law firms, tax advisors, and HR or finance teams in Austria and Germany. It does not replace legal advice, and the German-only interface and AT/DE-tuned detection patterns limit its usefulness outside these markets.
