Annoying, paywalls, lag, buggy features, low free cap, frustrating access/security **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Fine Art | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2026 **What do you like best about Dropbox?** not much. i think the only feature i like is giving someone outside of the account access to upload files to. **What do you dislike about Dropbox?** almost everything. everyone in my industry uses dropbox at some point. if someone wants to share files with me and my personal dropbox is full *because it fills up FAST due to low storage caps on free accounts* it has annoying pop up windows that block me from seeing or accessing the files that someone else is sharing on their account, and that's just to view them. i have had to open several dropbox accounts and have folks resend the links so i can view them. they are not stored in MY account, but it reads it as if it is. the security features are also annoying, they are confusing, multi-layered (you verify then it wants to reverify with even more steps, even though you successfully confirmed you have access through codes etc). flipping through files to view and go backwards is sometimes also annoying, it takes you out of the folder location and makes you re-sign in to view files you have permission to view. renaming files can be tedious as well, there's at least a 10-20 second buffer time to wait for the renaming to take affect before you can move on to another action. i've created links to media creators to use and upload their files to, and several folks said it didn't work or it wouldn't allow them to upload or they just received an error when trying to access the link. costly subscription for the most annoying cloud service ever. **What problems is Dropbox solving and how is that benefiting you?** barely solves anything. if anything at all, it creates problems. ### 2. This resulted in the loss of all my files when Dropbox was removed from my desktop, making them irrecoverable. I strongly dislike the automatic syncing feature, especially given the limited drive capacity, which seems unsuitable for larger file collections. Additionally, I am frustrated by the inability to recover files on a local drive, which has severely impacted my work. Despite only needing Dropbox to view customer files, the overall experience with the software has been a nightmare. The initial setup process was also terrible, contributing to my negative feelings towards the service. It erases files on our computers, unclear why. Sync between different computers sometimes means files disappear totally or partly. Folders are corrupted and are not recognized as folders anymore. When unchecking files we do not want synced, they are erased FROM THE COMPUTER! However, now I do and there is no support or help. I have less than 2G of data that I was to store on Drop. However, according to DB I have over 8GB of space that I stored which as far as I can tell is due to storage for backing up my computer. I don't want Dropbox to backup my computer. So I tried to call DB but there is no phone number provided. I tried to stop the backing up of my computer and all I can find is to open the DB app and find the BACKUP tab. I have an iMac and when I open the DB I do not see any tabs lest a backup facility. I feel as my files are not safe. It keeps linking up with Google, and allows anyone to log in without a password. After several attempts to break the link, it continues to link up and put my files at risk. It is fairly easy to crack a Windows password. Once in to my computer, a hacker could start Dropbox and be able to instantly access my files. This is why I keep my important files on a competing cloud service. I even log out of Google but Dropbox will link back up once I log in to check my email. That dropbox goes off and indexes your files, makes copies of the main folders and uploads everythihng to the DropBox. By inserting the DropBox folder into the folder path, i now have two my documents, two downloads folders, etc. As this has been impossible to undo, without the risk of lossing hundreds of files, we have been forced to continue to pay the subscription fee for several years. So DropBox is effectly holding us to ransom and demanding payment, or we will lose our files. All my important files are backed up here. I've found the app experience extremely smooth on my Android phone and Mac computer. I was a free user for a long time, but have been a premium subscriber for at least 5 years. **What do you dislike about Dropbox?** Recently, Dropbox added AI integration without clarity on how user data is used. For example, if I search "dog" in my Dropbox, I am shown photographs of my dog, although they do not have the word "dog" in the filename. This makes it clear there is a machine learning/artificial intelligence model looking at images to do image classification. I have asked questions publicly on the Dropbox support website, and opened support tickets with Dropbox. Even after many rounds of back and forth I did not get a satisfying answer on whether the AI is trained on my documents, or if search queries and clicks are fed back into the algorithm for improvement. There is no way to turn this feature off. So even if they are paying for your service, I can't accept files they "share" without getting a sales pitch about needing more space. I got confused on the process. I paid for more storage but instead of it adding storage to the business site, it gave me a new Dropbox site. I've tried to cancel the new site but have gotten confused. I'm sure this is quite simple but I just haven't figured out how to do this on my own; therefore, I've pretty much stopped using Dropbox and now use Google Docs and Miscrosoft OneDrive. We subscribed to their solution thinking it will support our growing team, however, this proved to be an illusion. We have built over 3 years worth of historical project data— complete with proper filing and linking to Dropbox. This was all flushed to toilet when Dropbox limited our team’s access to folders. After multiple attempts to fix this with customer support for over a year, someone finally shared that we can only share up to 1,500 folders with team members. That info wasn’t available when we subscribed to the service. Instead, this info was hidden deep below the help center’s, in an old query “why I can’t create shared folder?” It has caused major disruption in our daily work -- no one can upload files for a while now-- and customer support has not been helpful. Now we have to look for other flexible solutions and say goodbye to our 3 years worth of impressive historical data.
