You set up your connections using their configurable options and you immediately gain access to APIs that connect to you data. The various types of API connections that DreamFactory offers is top notch. HTTP, SOAP, REST, Scripting, Files, DBs, and the list goes on. Think about how much time you spend on creating your APIs for your applications. Take the number of hours multiplied by the cost of the resources it takes to code APIs into existence. DreamFactory abstracts that layer of complexity by automating it, delivering APIs that are ready to consume. It also integrates well with your applications. I use DreamFactory nearly every day to consume data from various data sources. The customer support is also top notch; the folks over at DreamFactory know what they're doing. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** I have not run into anything that I dislike about DreamFactory. As a software developer and data engineer, the upsides far outweigh any potential downsides that may occur. DreamFactory has saved me so much time on API development that it's difficult to think of any downsides. **What problems is DreamFactory solving and how is that benefiting you?** DreamFactory abstracts the layer of complexity and time when it comes to developing APIs. For example, say I want to make an API that consumes data from a SQL Server. I would have to write the server side code, for example in Node or Python. I would then need to have a means of orchestrating that app on the cloud to generate an endpoint. Essentially, I would need knowledge in software development and cloud engineering. Unlike many other API development platforms, in DreamFactory manual coding isn't needed in most cases, this saves a lot of time and effort. I was able to connect my MySQL database and set up user permissions for my new app in minutes, something that would have taken me hours of coding otherwise. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** For me it's the paid plans, it can sometimes be quite expensive for some people. What used to take all day now only takes minutes. The ability to tailor what data is able to served and the access control are a HUGE benefit as well. The technical team is extremely knowledgeable and helpful as well. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** It is a minor quibble, but the inability to create Swagger 2 / OpenAPI 2 compliant endpoints makes it cumbersome to use in conjunction with Microsoft's Azure or Power Platform. Though, I see that as more of a problem with Microsoft than Dreamfactory. **What problems is DreamFactory solving and how is that benefiting you?** It eliminates the need to create custom-written API endpoints to access our data services. We have a very limited use case and this was set up for us by an implementer, but the elements we need to look at on occasion are simple to locate and understand. It has never failed to be operating in the 4 years we have it working for our Salesforce integration. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** It's not scalable in terms of pricing, our setup is very small in terms of what it processes, it would be nice to be able to scale this based on the small number of transactions we are handling. **What problems is DreamFactory solving and how is that benefiting you?** Integration between an ageing ERP and the modern Salesforce CRM platform. We love the flexibility this gives us, and it has improved our security by preventing our applications from directly connecting to the databases. Dreamfactory makes it easy to manage access to our APIs and services through the use of roles and application-based controls. Access controls are granular enough to be useful, but not too onerous to manage. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** Configuring APIs that connect to REST services could be more intuitive. It would be nice if there were a built-in Swagger editor that could simplify the process of creating the service definition. As of now we need to rely on 3rd party utilities to generate the Swagger code. More flexible pricing options (e.g. a la carte premium connectors) would certainly help us with justification and procurement. It has been a challenge for us to justify the cost of the Silver license as it contains a lot of premium features that we don't need. **Recommendations to others considering DreamFactory:** Dreamfactory makes it simple to connect and integrate many disparate systems regardless of technology. It provides a unified approach for connecting and interacting with systems-both internal and external. It provides a secure method for abstracting database access for applications, removing the need for direct database access. **What problems is DreamFactory solving and how is that benefiting you?** Dreamfactory's user interface is clean and easy to navigate. It makes it extremely easy to configure Cross-Origin Resource Scripting (CORS) parameters to give our applications access to the APIs we have configured. In the past, this has been particularly difficult to overcome. It has made it possible to integrate in meaningful ways with our SharePoint environment which has been a challenge in the past. We have found it easy to package and configure into portable Docker containers. Although DreamFactory comes with its own database, we have deploiyed it to run on Postgresql, thus allowing it to fit into our backup and sysadmin processes. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** There is currently nothing I dislike about DreamFactory. Dreamfactory has allowed us to unify all these datasources into APIs that are easily accessible by our business applications. Also, we are able to easily package it into a docker container and OEM it as part of a solution we provide to our own customers. I wish it could be a bit longer since there is a bunch of config required on both sides. DreamFactory is also very lightweight and fast for a full lifecycle API Management tool. By that I mean that you don't need to firstly incorporate an enterprise message bus that realistically requires its own full time developer. As DreamFactory is ROA based, you don't need to worry about this. The API orchestration afforded by DreamFactory is also fantastic. The ability to incorporate multiple, unrelated data sources in single API calls enables us to develop some great services that would otherwise be cumbersome. **What do you dislike about DreamFactory?** The UI is a little dated, but this in no way takes away from the functionality.
