The interchangeability between Draftsight and Autodcad is amazing. Easy to use. I did prefer it when it was free, but - c'est la vie. Easy to teach and get new users up to speed and copying user current settings to new employees is quite useful. **What do you dislike about DraftSight?** The licensing is a little tough for me to keep track of. since it is tied to a computer and with computer changes and employee changes It does make it a little difficult to manage. **What problems is DraftSight solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using it to send drawings to manufacturing tools in the shop. Using DraftSight, we can able to draft complex 2D drawings. Using the property manager feature, we can find all the parameters like area, perimeter etc ; using this data is very useful in calculating the weight of the component. Keyboard shortcuts seem much use in using the tool faster, which saves us time to complete the task. We can able to import the image file and work on it, which helps in the reverse engineering process easier. **What do you dislike about DraftSight?** Crashes occur while working on a larger number of drawings which leads to the sudden closing of applications and loss of unsaved works. The main challenging part is to find the Force required for the stamping process; using the DraftSight property manager, we can able to find the values like perimeter etc., using this value, we can able to calculate the load required easily. It also helps us in design die, jigs and fixtures required in a precise manner. We tried it and loved it. They released a version that was broken, and I used the free trial of that version, not knowing it was broken. I ran it on a i7, 16GB RAM and RTX30 series (powerful computer) but the application constantly crashed. I lost unsaved work and wasted hours restarting the application, which did cost me a few hundred dollars on billable hours. I sent errors logs, which helped them to identify the issue that they claimed it is now resolved in DraftSight 2022 SP1. Technical support seems to be overseas with broken English and difficulty reading English. After 14 days, they said there is hotfix "DraftSight memory saturation hotfix" that could solve the problem. I asked for a trial license to try the fix but it was declined. Ask pratiksha.dahotre and gayatri.keskar for details. In summary, they released a broken version, which I helped to fix by providing feedback and error logs. They claimed it is fixed, but I can't test it. **What do you dislike about DraftSight?** It crashes all the time. Consequences are loss of unsaved work and time on restarting and loading software. **What problems is DraftSight solving and how is that benefiting you?** It could solve all my CAD needs problems as an engineering firm, but the software doesn't not work. ### 19. First year of college we had Engineer Graphics as part of the curriculum and we were all given a paid version of Draft Sight. The transition went very smoothly, everything you need is there and the software is CAD software. As far as I know, with Draft Sight you can do everything you can with the tool Auto CAD, if not more. **What do you dislike about DraftSight?** There are very small dislikes on my side regarding Draft Sight, the software is designed to be CAD software for technical drawing on the PC and you can do everything that the popular competitors can do but with a smaller price. My one big drawback is the complicated learning curve but that has to do with the type of software and not Draft Sight in particular. **Recommendations to others considering DraftSight:** I would whole heartedly recommend Draft Sight to everyone planning on switching to something less expensive. **What problems is DraftSight solving and how is that benefiting you?** Draft Sight was the main software of one of my college courses and we the students used to draw objects the professor told us to draw, in the said software. I finished the course with a good grade and can say that I have good knowledge and experience with Draft Sight and the technical drawing aspect. So to summarize, in my opinion the software is built to be an Auto CAD clone that you can get for a cheaper price but can basically do everything you would otherwise pay a much larger price for. The more expensive version does offer additional support and more commands than the lower cost version. So far it has proven to be far more stable than the other 2D only cad software that I use. Overall functionality is greatly improved for 2020 **What do you dislike about DraftSight?** I'm one of those advanced users who will occasionally miss that .5% In order to protect the company some command aliases are different, so you have to spend a little time learning it. Plot settings are a little clunky but for the much lower cost it's worth dealing with. *update plot dialog and settings are much improved for 2020 **Recommendations to others considering DraftSight:** If you're a student or an amateur, I highly recommend Drafsight If you are a small business who works in 2D only needs an occasional bit of 3D drafting the paid version with it is worth it. **What problems is DraftSight solving and how is that benefiting you?** Draftsight gives me an affordable platform for working from home or on the road. Another great plus is that it works on Linux.
