It is expensive to use. We don't have many users, and it is essentially a place we use for storing past research. So as a digital drive for hosting videos and research decks, it is very costly. I like Dovetail because it organizes research data very well. It’s easy to tag and sort information, making analysis quick and efficient. I’ve been using Dovetail for 4-5 years, and it’s easily one of my favorite tools. Before Dovetail, I manually managed notes and transcripts in Google Docs—it was messy and time-consuming. Dovetail has completely streamlined this process, making everything quicker and much more organised; I think the way I use it is still possibly very basic, but I remember learning the basics to get started very easily.

I use Dovetail almost every day - I write discussion guides every one/two week and log in daily to upload recordings, access old insights, etc.

What I love most:

- The ability to store recordings, transcripts, and insights all in one place for each project.

- The automated features like transcripts, summaries, and highlighting save a ton of time. They're getting better and better, and honestly save me so much time.

While I love Dovetail, there are a few challenges:

- As a small organization, only a few people (~3) have accounts, making it hard for the team to access recordings and transcripts. I’ve worked around this by sharing summaries and recordings via Slack.

- As a designer, not a full-time researcher, the research process (writing goals, guides, recruitment, analysis) still feels time-consuming.

- I wish I could pull insights across projects more easily, rather than having to copy recordings into a specific project to create highlights.

- I'm having issues with the Google Drive integration - for some reasons, I can't pull through recordings automatically, and I have to download and upload each time Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

When we started using them 2 years ago they were the best available platform for scaling user research and analyzing qualitative data. Their trascription capabilities, ability to tag the trascripts by theme, create insights and highlight reels is what they do best on the market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

They are overinvesting in AI features and as a result of that costs of their serivces have increased dramatically and to be honest the AI features they have are not worth the price increase because they are making us only maginally more efficient in our work.

What is more, their packaging is created in a way that they are making their enterprise users pay for their AI investment by charging a very high price to be able to have features like SSO but at the same time offering the same AI features which are actually driving the price of their services up to all the users on the their free plans. Dovetail is an easy-to-use tool for qualitative research. It has reduced our time in the analysis process: transcription, content tagging and insight identification, with the help of its AI functions.

Ive been using Dovetail for user research for 3 years now, it is definitely one of the top SaaS companies for User research. The new AI features are not perfect but incredibly useful. the ability to transcribe right in the product and have a summary created within minutes is amazing. I absolutely love the short clips that are created from all the tags, a perfect small video to present to product teams about a specific feature easily created for you. In Dovetail, I really appreciate the tags for videos, which help with quickly analyzing the videos. Adding AI was a game changer, and now I can work even more efficiently.
