I can always rely on each of my environments having the keys it should have in one place. I particularly like the user interface because it's very easy to manage and understand. The ability to have derived environments is excellent, allowing me to set a standard set of keys for anything in production and have particular sets for different sub-environments. This feature of using keys as pointers into each different environment is really outstanding. The great thing about Doppler is it integrates directly with the different services we use, such as GitHub, where you can sync secrets across to the repo or different environments, like preview environments getting the Doppler secrets. You can also do this at compile time or runtime in GitHub Actions, which provides two options for integration. What's great about it is you can incrementally adopt it, moving steadily and eventually fully using it. I'd love to see more SDK integration for our developers and further data typings (eg certs). I'd also love to see better notifications around expiring secrets. It'd be great if Doppler could determine what date a token will expire on and alert us ahead of time for its renewal. The ability to sync secrets to a dev environment is also amazing, we no longer need to share .env files through a side-channel to members of the team. This makes onboarding folks like contractors a lot easier. **What do you dislike about Doppler secrets management platform?** Not sure if there are any true downsides, but there are a few small annoyances: 1) Some of the integrations dump all secret values into a single secret. This can be annoying to manage. 2) If secrets are needed on the dev environment, unlike a .env file that can be read by any tool, you have to use the Doppler CLI to inject the secrets as env variables. We have 2 databases, one for dev and one for production, with multiple client apps (mobile, desktop, and some web based tools) that need API secrets for the database and other services. I love that I can make an environment for each client app and create subsets of secrets without needing to have copies of text all over the place. The backend code needs access to everything, but the frontend clients only need a subset. Some of the web tools only need a smaller subset than the mobile app. Creating environements in Doppler that all reference the master list lets me deliver only the secrets I want for each use case and without needing to duplicate values. **What do you dislike about Doppler secrets management platform?** I haven't used a lot of tools, but I can say that the dashboard for managing a lot of environments isn't great, since you get a long horizontal scrolling page after about 3 environments. I'd rather they are displayed in a grid or vertically. Also the site isn't designed for mobile so if you ever need to make a quick change from your phone, good luck! **What problems is Doppler secrets management platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** Managing secrets that need to be shared among developers that come and go is annoying and potentially dangerous. We use access tokens to give developers access to specific environments.
