## DNSFilter Reviews
 ### 1. Easy to use and highly effective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNS Filter is straightforward to implement and provides good visibility. We've seen a reduction in malicious and non-related work websites being accessed, which has increased productivity.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Sometimes certain websites are blocked or not blocked incorrectly, even though they match the categories we have in place.
Sometimes it's not easy to navigate the GUI to find what we're looking for.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter eliminates the need to have an appliance dedicated to DNS filtering. It allows all of our technicians to manage it without training or expertise. Being cloud-based, we don't need infrastructure onsite.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello,

Thank you for writing this review! So glad to hear you saw a reduction in malicious and non-related work websites being accessed. When it comes to certain websites being blocked incorrectly and GUI navigation I would encourage you to work with our support team to get more details about the issue and figure out why this issue is happening intermittently. ### 2. Easy to Implement and Administer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is very easy to get going, only taking a few minutes to get protection up and running. Once set up, it is very intuitive to manage with an interface that flows nicely. Also, once set up, changes to policies are almost immediately implemented.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

There are a couple of things that I wish were better. The roaming client can be troublesome sometimes. It can be fixed with reinstall, but annoying to have to do that. When using the DNS relay option, it would be nice if there was a way to show which user accessed what resource in the reports, maybe by IP address.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Give it a try. No contracts and it is easy to implement or remove quickly.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is helping me solve issues by allowing me to set policies to help prevent wasted time at work, such as social networking, and most importantly keeping my end-users and network safe from security threats.

 ### 3. Great for the MSP model.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason P. | Chief Problem Solver / Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The multi-tenant-focused dashboard makes it easy to work with multiple clients at once. The ability to have different policies for different networks as well as the software agent.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I wouldn't say I dislike anything, but being able to use the site in a mobile-friendly browser easier would be a major improvement.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

If you need a multi-tenant easy-to-use DNS-based filtering solution DNS Filter is a good option.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNS filter is helping solve the problem with the work from home changes by allowing us to deploy the mobile client to the edge devices to ensure our filtering is still happening no matter where the end user is working.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Thanks for the kind review, Jason! We really appreciate your feedback.

 ### 4. DNS Filter is a Great Addition to our Security Stack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brent W. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easy to use and excellent protection. DNSFilter support is also top-notch!

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Reporting could be a little better, would like to see it broken down a little more.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps where cost is a factor. It's relatively inexpensive and has incredible value for our customers.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello Brent,

Thank you for writing us this review! Glad to hear you find our product easy to use and that support has been top-notch! In regard to reporting, would this be our network deployment reporting?

 ### 5. DNSFilter works. Period.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian M. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The roaming clients make it easy for WFH employees to stay safe

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Block pages don't always function correctly

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Enjoy the ease of deployment and management!

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving employees going to inappropriate or malicious sites. It blocks them before they even touch the page.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Brian,

Thanks for writing us this updated review! Glad to hear that our Roaming Clients feature makes it easier for your WFH employees. In regards to having difficulty with the block pages, I can certainly help and dive into this more. Don't hesitate to reach out to my email jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 6. DNS Filter has been a GREAT addition to our online child safety plan.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edward G. | Network Admin / Computer Tech, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is easy to set up, easy to maintain and highly configurable! In minutes we were up and running and well on the road to adjusting the configuration for what we desired.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Honestly, for what it does we have not found a downside as of yet. It does what is needed to be done in an efficient and cost-effective way.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a small private Christian Church and School. The modern world provides many things we do not wish to have on our computer systems. DNSFilter helps us "clean up" the web and helps keep our children safe!

 ### 7. Effective, flexible and easy to set up

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Piers C. | IT administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It's simple to set up, the ability to use agents to protect mobile devices and to create different restrictions for different devices and users is a useful feature.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

It doesn't seem to be possible to block everything and then just whitelist specific groups or domains. I had to look up a full list of TLDs and import them in order to achieve this result.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to block internet access for specific computers. I'm also using it at home to help keep my kids safe on the internet and stop adverts which I was previously using Pihole for.

 ### 8. Works well overall

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

A lightweight agent with easy configuration. Easy to manage portal with some good detail. One of the few to have a Mac client.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Reports could be more detailed. Breaking out usage by client/site would be helpful. Unfortunately, no bypass option if DNS Filter services are having issues.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Review requirements for clients and for billing first.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Good solution overall for secure DNS filtering for MSP. Beneficial having the MSP program and multiple supported machine types.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Thank you for writing this review! Glad to see you found our configuration easy. About the reports being more detailed, we are working on better reporting, it has been something our MSP’s have requested heavily! We just released Schedule Reports with summaries of blocked threats and blocked content, but we are working on releasing more reports in the near future. If you need anything else please don't hesitate to reach out jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 9. Good value service

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** michael m. | CISO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Functionality, cost, support and responsiveness to suggestions and issues

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Some issues with installs and odd issues with clients. Very limited issues but not 100% perfect

Primarily protection against malicious sites. THey do it very well.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

 ### 10. User Friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ike C. | IT Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2020

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Ease of use. Easy to configure policies. Whitelisting or blacklisting response is quick.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The reports are not very granular and basic.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Website Content filtering. It works great is blocking access to restricted websites.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Ike,

Thanks for writing us this review! Glad to hear you find our policies easy to configure. In regards to the granularity of certain reports, I can provide additional information and help at my email jlaviola@dnsfilter.com. Don't hesitate to reach out.

 ### 11. Easy management and great results

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The setup and deployment of new sites and the management of those sites and their respective policies is SUPER easy.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

We've had some minor issues with bank sites, and certain secure platforms, but it's easily resolvable with an exclusion rule

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it for both a security layer (similar to cisco umbrella but a fraction of the cost) and also content filtering for some problematic demographics.

 ### 12. Great powerful tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter helps us to stop users from accidentally accessing malicious websites which may appear genuine on the surface. The product does exactly what we need to. The included scheduling ability is great for allowing certain traffic at break times etc.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The only dislike about the product is the relatively short default logging period. Greater free log retention would be great. Even 30 days. 6 Days seems very short to me.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter allowed us to move to a good product at a great price point replacing previously expensive and difficult to maintain on-premise hardware. With Covid the business operation moved from fully office work to mostly remote work. DNSFilter allows us to remotely protect users machines as well as on prem ones. Our old solution did not allow this.

 ### 13. Superb Product that Makes our life easier

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom W. | It and Accounting Clerk, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like how easy it is to set up, either by installing the agent on the pc or by monitoring an IP. The build in filtering categories are good, and it's easy to add more sites.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The only downside is explaining the service to others in the organization as it's a new way to do things.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping keep our computer labs safe and helps defend against malware.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Tom,

Thank you for writing this review. Love to hear that you find set-up to be easy and that it's simple to add more sites. We have heard the same feedback from other customers about explaining the benefits of using our product, that it can be challenging to others in their organization. We would like to help when it comes to showing others the value in our product. Feel free to email me jlaviola@dnsfilter.com and we could certainly help you out.

 ### 14. Excellent DNS Filtering Solution for MSPs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David H. | Operations Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

DNSFilter does an excellent job of protecting our customer's networks from web-based threats and gives us the ability to create policies that apply at the site and individual level. With reporting, we can show customers the benefit of DNS filtering and where threats are coming from and who within the team is generating threats and what sites are being accessed.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing to dislike about the solution - everything works as expected.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Protecting users from web-based threats and blocking access to sites that can cause HR issues or time-wasting sites.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

 ### 18. Invaluable partner for any MSP

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is a fantastic tool for us as part of our networking security stack. At a basic level, DNSFilter provides three essential functions for our clients: Content filtering, DNS security, and logging. Regarding content filtering, it's incredibly easy to set categories to be blocked, such as adult, hacking, P2P, streaming media, etc. DNS security plays an important role in stopping malware and other nefraious apps from "calling home." Regarding logging, we often times get requests from clients that require us to see if a particular user or endpoint has visited a certain site.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing to dislike. If I had to think hard about what might be better, I'd love to see agent procedures built by DNSFilter for the major RMM tools. That being said, their documentation is very good, and their support is fantastic. So we built our own RMM agent procedures.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is a very important part of our stack, providing DNS Security, content filtering, and logging.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Thank you for your well-thought-out review. Glad to see that DNSFilter is a very important part of your security stack. We want to make things as simple as possible for you, so glad to see you mention that our content filtering is incredibly easy to set categories to be blocked. We appreciate your time, and value your feedback.

 ### 19. DNS Filter is well worth it.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNS filter simply works. The categories are great. The speed to update is great. It just does everything we need in a DNS Filter. The Roaming agent works great for our remote employees too.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Like any DNS Filter, there are some limitations to what the service can see. Don't expect complicated html analysis. It's a DNS filter. I consider it a first of defense.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

If you need a DNS security filter, look no further. DNSFilter is what you need.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNS Filter lets us filter all of our clients, guests, and remote employees. It gives us a rough breakdown on activity, usage, and what threats it has blocked. It's fast and has no impact on most devices.

 ### 20. Strong DNS support system control

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Lots of finite controls for approved and blocked locations, and groups based on user access. User access can also be determined by the computer they used, in the event they have access to multiple.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The location of some items is very unintuitive and buried under sub-menus. Domain checker, a usually very useful tool, for example, is under another menu and should be on the first page. Reporting is also not as customizable as one would desire.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSF aids in the control and security of a company by restricting access to websites based on parameters set within the system (P2P, gambling, etc). This allows companies to control where users are able to go.

 ### 21. Great DNS filtering service for small businesses

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like that it blocks phishing and other potentially dangerous domains from being accessed.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Sometimes, and this is very rare, it will allow a potentially unwanted domain to be accessed. In these cases, I have reached out to tech support and they have handled them pretty quickly.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

DNSFilter should be used in combination with other security products to completely protect your organization. That being said, it covers a lot of areas that other products have difficulty providing, or are only provided by much more expensive products.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter gives me another layer of security for my organization. I have a certain level of confidence that users won't be able to access potentially dangerous URLs.

 ### 22. DNS Security and content filtering made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The simple, intuitive interface.
Easy profile management.
Continuous improvement and adding of features.
Fast response to emails and queries.
There is no hardware dependency, and even road warriors are covered.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing that I dislike actually, only features that I would like to have. For this, I submit feature requests.
I wish that it was easier to get Apple devices set up for roaming.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

As always, try before you buy.
Test for your scenario.
Consider the geolocation of the DNS servers!

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My primary concerns are content filtering and malware protection.
DNSFilter does this easily. The network is more productive, and users don't notice anything, because it's always working.

 ### 23. DNS Filter; a fantastic roaming content filtering tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I love the simple deployment with silent lightweight installer.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Its not a DNS Filter issue, but a DNS issue and sometimes switching between WiFi and wired can cause a delay to start servicing requests

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

content filtering for roaming agents that don't sit behind a firewall

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello!

Thank you for writing this review. Glad to hear you found deployment to be simple and that you take value in our Roaming Clients feature. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out. jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 24. No news is good news!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Set up was very easy, and there haven't been any issues that we've encountered so far.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing to report at this point - it's been a smooth process!

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping to keep our network safe - with increased attacks, it's been a huge benefit to the company.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Thanks for writing us this review! Glad to hear that set up was very easy and that there haven't been any issues. If there is anything additional you need, don't hesitate to reach out to my email jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

**Reviewed by:** Paul D. | Project Manager, EITaaS, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter has amazing simplicity and power, and is backed by awesome customer service/tech support!!!

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Inability for non-pro users to utilize on IOS (I'd have to pay a premium just to use on my iPhone).

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed robust protection for my home network that included filtering for both risky domains and adult content, in a way that is harder to circumvent and less system resource-hogging.

 ### 26. Best level of protection

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diego G. | Director de Tecnología, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easy to use and very customisation for all the situations

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

NothingThere is nothing noteworthy to include in this section on these aspects.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

If you need to apply specific traffic rules and avoid possible attacks caused by malicious traffic, DNS filter is the right choice for you.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a system that was easy to maintain, reliable and with a high level of security for our customers' traffic.

 ### 27. Incredible experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Simple to configure and manage. Reporting is great and the introduction of AppAware is awesome

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

YouTube SafeSearch but that's more of an issue with YiuTube than DNSFILTER

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing a school environment

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Thank you for your review! Love to hear that you've had such a great experience using DNSFilter for your cybersecurity protection thus far! Glad to see that you highlighted AppAware as a favored feature. It's good to know that the features we release resonate and elevate your overall experience using our product. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out. jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 28. DNSFilter is what it claims to be

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tony H. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is simple to understand, use, and configure.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I've been told by Support that it can take 24 hours for a roaming client to update the Local Domains if you make a change. Seems like a long time.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is part of a larger suite of products we use to secure our customer's networks and computers.

 ### 29. Excellent filtering at a great price

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It's cloud-based, easy to manage and scalable.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The agent running on the PC is buggy. We have issues with sometimes cutting off DNS resolution until we manually restart the PC or the DNS filter service.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Deploy the agent as well as forward internal DNS servers to their DNS servers so you're completely protected.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a solution that worked anywhere. We previously used a hardware-based filter which doesn't work when users work remotely. I can manage the filter from anywhere and know that all of our devices are secure since it's cloud-based.

 ### 30. It works without much effort!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It is very simple to use for our technicians and we also like the MSP Dashboard. It is easy to config it GDPR / DSGVO-conform (enable the Limit PII Collected for each customer).

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

There is no Microsoft SIEM integration (only Amazon AWS S3 and splunk) and no integration for our PSA (Datto Autotask PSA) - only for Solarwinds, Freshdesk and so on

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is a perfect content filter with a top customer-overview for our Company and also every Managed Service Provider, we save a lot of time with this service!

 ### 31. Found our replacement!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNS Filter has made what used to be complex, much simpler. Pricing is good, support has been phenomenal (people answer messages here!), and the flexibility has been great.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I wish it had some deeper, easier integration with Connectwise Manage (through API, not Zapier), and that we could do SSO through Azure (it appears you have to use OpenID).

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our former vendor was overpriced and too complex/clunky. Support was not easy to work with, and it was just a big faceless corporation that you were dealing with.

 ### 32. DNS Filter help secure our network

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easily help secure our network from outside threats

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

At this time there is nothing i dislike about DNS Filter

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Adds an extra layer of security to our enterprise network.

 ### 33. DNSFilter is simple, effective, and fantastic.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew D. | Senior Systems Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is simple and effective. Support is fast and responsive on the few occasions needed.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The lack of agent remove removal when offboarding customers.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter stops malicious connections before they even can start (by blocking DNS). Security is quickly and easily improved.

 ### 34. Great alternative to heavy-handed AV solutions

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cole Y. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Flexibility. I like that some devices can be filtered via the network, while others can have more scrutiny with the agent.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

It would be nice to have an easier way to do audits. EG, to enable filters for customers who have problematic employees. That is our 2nd most common request.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Web filtering is my main use case. It allows us to set up compliance for customers as well as to audit users who are suspected of inappropriate web viewing.

 ### 35. Easy and effective

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I've been using DNSFilter for over 2 years and have been very pleased with their product. The price point is great, they have good documentation, they have applications for various operating systems, and the website is easy to use. They are also rolling out new features all the time.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

For a while, there wasn't a way to get System Status updates automatically, but they resolved this.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter adds security to our networked devices by blocking malicious websites.

 ### 36. Works well. Can improve.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve S. | Project Management Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The roaming client is nice. I like how I can filter unsure sites and invalid DNS.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

You can not set policies on a user level only on a PC level.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Continent filtering is much better than barracuda content filter.

 ### 37. Excellent product, very MSP friendly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNS Filter was built by MSPs, for MSPs. It is simple and easy to deploy and manage, and lightweight. DNS performance is excellent, and support is responsive.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Their billing model, although heavily favoring the buyer, is immature. The platform also lacks meaningful billing integrations with PSAs.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a security-first MSP, so every layer matters. Despite DNS going encrypted, DNS Filter still provides us with a significant additional layer of protection.

 ### 38. Easy peasy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geoff N. | S, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easy to install, lots of customization options, great way to lock down security for employees, especially those who are WFH and not connecting to the internet through a company-owned network appliance.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I did have to follow up a few times to get a response to a support ticket.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to be able to block WFH users from accessing malicious websites, but without a company VPN we had little control over their internet browsing capabilities.

 ### 39. Great Filtering, Easy to Use, and Fast Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler D. | Network Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2020

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Extremely simple setup. Just add your network's public IP and set a filtering policy. They also have roaming agents which can now do per user filtering. The solution is very reasonably priced and is a great way to add another layer of threat protection to our network.

We have reported a couple industry specific websites as inaccurate the and support was very fast to correct the rating and allow access. Changes to the filtering policy also take place almost immediately - which is impressive for a company with global DNS resolvers. The admin portal is also easy to use and provides a ton of information. We have used the real time audit log to quickly troubleshoot and white-list sites. There is a built in threat dashboard where you can see the threats which were detected on the network. If you have the agents installed you can also see the associated PC and user which accessed the threats. Its very cool to have the visibility into exactly what is happening on our networks.

The client also allows us to filter our workforce on the go when they are not connected directly to our VPN device - increasing security at each endpoint.

The custom block pages can be used to provide staff with a company branded page with options to submit a wrongly blocked site directly on the page. The block page also has an "Override Block" button which can be used by admins to temporary bypass the filtering if an employee needs immediate access to a site.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

As with all DNS filters, you must ensure to block outbound DNS requests to other providers or filtering can be circumvented. The agent does a great job with this but rules should be created on the main firewall as well.

Very specific URL filtering is also not possible as the blocks are domain wide.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Go for it! If you are looking for solid DNS Filtering they are the way to go.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a solution which could filter TLS 1.3 and servers using encrypted SNI which our firewall was not capable of. We also wanted the AI based threat intelligence.

We are now using DNS Filter for content and security, while using the firewall just for security filtering.

 ### 40. DNS Filter for MSP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve A. | Business Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

This is an inexpensive tool that will add a layer of protection for your client's web browsing on their computers and mobile devices. It's got cross platform compatibility and is easy to deploy.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

There isn't much to dislike about this tool. It fits in well and has a lot of capabilities and customization. The reporting features have been evolving as well.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're using it to protect clients from malware and malicious websites. We also use it to block sites or content that our client's employees should not be viewing to meet compliance and align with their business needs.

 ### 41. Great DNS filter, especially for MSPs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter offers great pricing before becoming a partner. It allows anyone from small businesses to larger businesses the tools to keep their network secure and on task.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Some of the analytics feel fundamental and missing vital details especially if you cannot set up a proxy to identify what users are responsible for what traffic.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter helps protect the networks I manage from cyberthreats at the network level rather than the endpoint. It also allows me filter certain traffic that could be inappropriate and if you work with a school or for a school it has a built in CIPA setting.

 ### 42. Easy, smart way to handle content filtering

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob D. | IT Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I'm the IT director for 2 different schools in the Chicago area. I've always had to worry about content filtering. Before I started using DNSFilter, I worked with several different firewall manufacturers, and their methods varied in both complexity and quality. Moving to a cloud based solution has made my life much easier. Not only is DNSFilter a fast DNS server, but they do constantly update their blacklists, since it is their primary business. In addition, my customization is very easy. Some hardware based filters make me go through crazy hoops.

Finally, I have the capability of using their DNS servers on devices sent home with students. This eliminates the needs of having every DNS request loop back to my internal servers and go back out to the student, but still protects them from unsafe or unwanted sites.

The days of using free services is over. Since you are going to have to pay for content filtering services, you might as well work with a company whose main business is nothing but content filtering. I have found it incredibly cost effective, and that's coming from an underfunded catholic school!

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing to speak of. For education, the price is spectacular.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Replacing other firewall content filter providers.

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> What a great review! We are glad you are enjoying the tool. I'm glad you find it not only cost effective but also appreciate the effort we put into being the best DNS tool on the market.

 ### 43. Great Content Filtering / Easy to Use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

We switched from Cisco Umbrella to DNSFilter about 3 years ago, primarily to save some money. We couldn't be happier with the switch. The speed is incredible, the interface is easy to use, it offers useful reporting and tools, and policy changes are implemented immediately instead of having to wait 15 minutes like with Umbrella.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I haven't found anything that we dislike about the product. I suppose that a little more control over the block page customization might be nice, but I'm really nit-picking at this point.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNS filter allows us to block inappropriate content from students at our school. It also blocks known malware and virus sites.

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It is competitive vs Cisco Umbrella. really a no-brainer

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The roaming client, which is the prefered deployment method isn't 100% for every circumstanc

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our client base requires general dns filtering, so as we offer this, and have for years, it makes sense for the product we use to be easy for us to deploy and manage.

 ### 48. DNSFilter is an easy layer that anyone can add to their protection umbrella

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The adminisrator portal UI could be improved, but it is adequate as is.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Pilot test the product with a pilot group and then scale up the deployment.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gives me additional confindence in protecting our organization and end-users from malicious web sites.

 ### 50. Finally, DNS filtering made easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The intuitive administrative interface makes for easy navigation, setting up clients, deploying agents, and ensuring that our clients are protected with proper DNS filtering.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

When doing a query of the logs or navigating the dashboards, you will see many blocked sites and threats. This is great information but discovering it is currently a manual process. We would like the option to enable alerts so that our team can quickly inspect clients with repeat blocked threats to determine if it's an issue on the machine or a persistent rule-breaking user.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filtering internet traffic for threats or non-business related categories can be a challenge, especially when users take their device off the corporate network. Deploying roaming agents immediately resolved this issue and enforces the policies regardless of where a workstation connects.

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> Thank you for your review. I'm glad you are taking advantage of our Roaming Client feature. In a world where our workforce continues to be more mobile, having the ability to protect them at all times is essential.

 - [Would you ever consider attempting to take the top most frequently blocked sites/urls across all of your educational institution clients and within the filtering system suggest these in the blacklist portal for policy editing? This could help us all stay on the same page in regards to the popular trends/games the students are into at that time and be a little more proactive for our administration. For example, there was a hit game called surviv.io that was blocked by the gaming policy but could be found at ~10 diff URLs across the web, making it hard to block completely. I'm sure this feature would require a lot but just a wondering for the future :)](https://www.g2.com/discussions/34820-would-you-ever-consider-attempting-to-take-the-top-most-frequently-blocked-sites-urls-across-all-of-your-educational-institution-clients-and-within-the-filtering-system-suggest-these-in-the-blacklist-portal-for-policy-editing-this-could-help-us-all-) - 2 comments, 1 upvote
