## DNSFilter Reviews
 ### 1. DNSFilter - Good but missing important feature

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The roaming agent can be installed on laptops and protect them whereever they are.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

They do not provide a GeoIP filter to block IP addresses from specific countries.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providers protection for mobile clients.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Thanks for the review! I'm glad you're getting use out of our Roaming Client for hybrid and remote environments. As for GeoIP filtering, this is a feature that is currently under review. I highly recommend you vote for this feature on our roadmap along with any other features you're interested in. And don't hesitate to reach out to support if anything comes up!

 ### 2. You don't need an Umbrella for great security

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The greatest thing about DNSFilter is the ability to set different DNS Servers for users. If you have a laptop, desktop, server, etc. You can set these to different DNS servers so you can create custom rules for each. The ease of use and implementation by setting up rules then simply changing the DNS servers is awesome. Need to lock it down? Download the agent to force them regardless of settings. I can easily integrate this into our security stack and update daily for users that have trouble getting to legitimate sites. If you have any trouble, just contact Customer Support. They have really good support, not that you honestly will ever need it...but they are there if you do. I find this with Bitdefender Endpoint a GREAT way to eliminate all threats even ones that may get through as they cannot get out as easily. I update daily the whitelist and blacklist and never have any problems with the frequency of use.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

There is a lot of Whitelisting, but I ensure my setup is more strict through all the options. This might be a deterant for some, but if you want to be secure, then you turn on everything. Just be careful with the APPLICATION control. I have literally had valid websites and applications stop when we did not mean to. Beyond the Application control, everything else is AWESOME. When you pair with Bitdefender, it shows a specific error from Bitdefender when DNSFilter blocks a site. I love it. Makes it so much easier to document what goes where and then you can ask the WHY to that user. Communication and training are KEY.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Add another layer to my security. Bitdefender is good. Firewalls are good, but why not also block at a DNS level. It solves the 0-day issues and also limits other risks.

 ### 3. Simple and Easy to Deploy and Manange

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Franc M. | Director, Chief Information Security Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easy to deploy, create policies and get it up and running. They listen to requests and constantly add new features and it just works.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

It could do more, but the best part is they keep expanding on features.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Web filtering on devices that are roaming outside the office.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Franc, thank you for the kind review. We really value the ease of deployment for our customers, and I'm glad to see you appreciate that. We are continuously adding new features as well. Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything!

 ### 4. Feature packed and good value for money

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Simple to setup, similar interface to competitor Cisco Umbrella

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Newer product without the big-name support.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter provides an additional layer of protection to our organisation with minimal overhead.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello!

Thanks for writing this updated review. Glad to hear that that setup was easy. We have additional support now, including myself. I am the Customer Marketing Specialist. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. Jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 5. Overall bad experience

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The DNS filtering seems to work great when all of the pieces are in order. That said, this has been such a painful experience that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with even slightly advanced use cases in ther environment. It may work well for very simple deployments, but that has not been our experience.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Extremely lacking and sometimes woefully inaccurate documentation (I pointed some of these issues out and they never fixed them).
Slow release cadence (their relay hasnt been updated since 2019!??!).
Slow and generally unhelpful support. We have had several issues open with them for months. You're lucky to get 2 replies from them a day. I kicked this up to our account manager, and we got better support for about a day. They will happily sit on a 3 month old ticket and only update you if you reach out. Pretty apalling for a paid enterprise grade product.

EDIT: It appears based on some Linkedin posts that they have been laying people off. My customer support rep blamed a lot of their issues on "turnover", but it sounds to me like these people were forced to leave. With the current state of the economy, and knowing that they've been laying people off, the future of DNSfilter isnt looking very bright. Hindsight being 20-20, I wouldn't touch any of their offerings with a 39.5 foot pole.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNS Level security and filtering

**Official Response from Steve Staden:**

> We at DNSFilter appreciate you taking the time to point out the issues you encountered. It’s tough to hear this and I assure you that it is atypical of what we expect. Our apologies for not meeting your expectations. I wanted to provide some further details on your points.

In relation to the documentation issues and not being updated: We want to acknowledge that and we’re working to both review and make updates to all of our documentation. We have started focusing on our most visited pages. However, if you could share which updates were not made I can look into that further.

Regarding the Relay, we acknowledge there haven’t been a lot of updates. However, we’re currently working on a release as we update the Relay packages as noted here - https://dnsfilter.canny.io/known-issues/p/please-update-dnsfilter-relay-vhd-to-newer-ubuntu-release. We expect this to be released in the coming weeks. We are continually enhancing the overall product typically every two weeks as you can see from our Changelog - https://dnsfilter.canny.io/changelog.

Lastly, you mentioned a less than ideal support experience. I’m very sorry you had this experience. That’s generally not the case and we are typically very responsive along with making sure we provide regular updates towards a resolution. If you could provide ticket numbers I am happy to look into this further to understand the breakdown that occurred.

I would love the opportunity to get those additional details so I may investigate this further. I commit to responding to you and here is my contact information: Steve Staden, CISSP, Senior Director, Product Management - sstaden@dnsfilter.com.

 ### 6. DNSFilter is fantastic

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter has allowed us to block so many unsafe websites for our ORG.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

We ran into a small issue with the agent incorrectly setting dns on machines, causing them to lose internet. It was fixed in a patch.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing web traffic blocking.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Great to hear that DNSFilter is working for your needs and that the issue was resolved quickly. If you ever need to reach out to support, don't hesitate. And keep an eye on our roadmap to see what features and updates we have planned, as well as vote on new features you're interested in!

 ### 7. Excellent Product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Works as Described and Does it Great.
Highly Responsive and Highly Reliable.
Intuitive to Navigate.
Fast to Implement & Deploy.
Easy Training.
Excellent & Responsive Support (Does Not Require a Bunch of "Proof" to Submit Tickets).
Integrations Available.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

If you want better blocking of spoofing websites, you need to enable extra features that can cause a lot of false positives "Uncategorized" domains and CDNs from even reputable sites. So this requires a lot of continuing Whitelisting. (I wouldn't knock off any points off though, it would just be a near-perfect product if they solved this issue [as of 2024-Q1).

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blocking non-business websites from staff users, and malicious/spoofing sites from google searches or pinterest mainly.
End Users have a real layer of protection against spoofing sites.
Very reasonable pricing and easy to understand after they changed to User-based pricing model (Around 2023-Q3)

 ### 8. Great product, few short commings

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Few false positives, ease of use, good reporting, good customer support, easy to implement

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Global allow list limited to 1000 entries
No Single Sign On option for admins
installer/uninstaller/upgrading roaming clients can be a bit tricky

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

dns filtering, keep our employees web browsing safe no matter where they are

 ### 9. Great Product and Training

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Debbie M. | Security Consultant and Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

My favorite part was the training because it was short and precise and gave me the ability to maneuver around the product easily.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Nothing so far. I have only been using for a few weeks but it's working as intended with minimal issues.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping our customers secure their data one step further.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Debbie, thank you for taking the time to review DNSFilter. We appreciate you as a customer and are so glad you're happy with the tool!

 ### 10. Great DNS filter

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Very, very easy to deploy and manage. The dashboard is clean and intuitive. The automated reports are very good and the design is very nice. We have only had to contact support a couple of times and both times the support experience was excellent.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

We have not found anything we dislike about the product yet.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed to replace our previous DNS filter solution.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> John, we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. I'm glad to hear the automated reports are working well for you and you had a great experience with our support team.

 ### 11. Very robust, easily configurable filtering with excellent tech support/customer service.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

As a home user, I was previously shocked that the other solutions sometimes would mysteriously let unwanted content through which it previously had blocked. But this solution is extremely robust. The interface is very intuitive. The granularity with which categories can be blocked is impressive. I choose to block all search engines but whitelist Google because of its ability to effectively filter out pornography in image results using Google SafeSearch. The same for VPN workarounds, the dating/hookup category, selective social networking sites. etc, etc. When I don't understand how to do something, there is always their excellent support team to help me out. Along with the DNSFilter roaming client for MacBook, hosts-file level filtering and other techniques, I know my son is protected. When I run across a site that makes me sqeamish, like adolescent T&A-type sites, I individually block these domains. There's also granularity in their reporting to find out which sites are being visited or blocked so that I can have "the conversation." The service is a little expensive, but it's worth is to protect my son's eyes and to have personal peace of mind.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I think that smart-phone roaming client applications should be included in the basic home-user level of subscription, even if it means that have to support a challenging user implementation plan. They also really need to hurry up with the development of the ability to block individual IP addresses.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filter unwanted Web content in a house with a child in it. Along with other filtering methods and disencentives, I have a relatively clean Internet experience for my minor child. (I know there is no such thing as a completely foolproof filter.)

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> Thank you so much for your review! It's always great to hear from a home user. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on the ability to block individual IP addresses. Please feel free to email at success@dnsfilter.com

 ### 12. Easy, Set it and forget it

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Super easy to setup, quick, agents worked great
support was amazing
full featured product comparable with other "leading" vendors

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

AAD inigration needing to be setup on prem and then sent back to the product
wish the block page had a bit more customization - something like the company logo and then maybe the ability to add an aditional jpeg

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Comparing other "big Vendor" Dns products vs this one
Allowing the remote workforce to still be protected

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Joseph! And thank you for the constructive feedback. Improvements to our block page are coming, so keep an eye out. As for your feedback around our active directory integration, I've shared that with our product team. Thanks again for being a valued customer! And if you have any other features you'd like to see, you can share through our feature request page: https://dnsfilter.canny.io/feature-requests

 ### 13. Deployed over 5 companies and just works seamlessly!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The fact that it is easy to configure and to implement it, then the fact that it just works.
easiliy integrates with our RMM platform for remote deployment

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

support is a bit slow due to the time and region difference.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

helps take away the need to have hardware firewalls everywhere, now we can monitor and block sites on the go.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review! I'm glad you find our solution easy to deploy and integrates well with your RMM solution. I'm sorry to hear about the slow support times, I shared this feedback with our customer success team. We have recently added a new hire to help us cover the APAC region timezone, I hope this helps in your case! But we're looking to increase response times with this additional coverage.

 ### 14. Best Value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary C. | IT Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The best value in webfiltering for the money. Customer support is excellent.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

There is not much to dislike. Reporting features may be its biggest weakness

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Granular, and scalable cloud based web filter in a K-8 educational environment.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> Gary, thank you so much for your review. I'm glad you're able to leverage DNSFilter effectively in a K-8 education environment, I hope you're taking advantage of the CIPA controls we provide! I'm also happy to hear about your positive experience with our support team.

 ### 15. DNSFilter is great!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The endpoint agent is nice to be able to install on remote machines to protect clients that are WFH or not behind a controlled firewall. The ease of use is nice compared to some of the other programs out there.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Not much! They've really stepped up and fixed everything over the last 6 months.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filtering out bad acting websites and URLs is what DNSFilter helps us do best.

**Official Response from Serena Raymond:**

> We really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of DNSFilter. We've put a lot of effort into both innovating new features but improving the existing technology, I'm glad you've seen the work we've put into the product (especially as a long-time customer). Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything from the DNSFilter team.

 ### 16. Good network filter for our facility

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve H. | General Manager, Automotive, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The ready-set categories are a great addition. Rather than having to segment good/bad sites manually, we were able to just select the categories and add or remove a couple to fit our needs. That helped us get it running much much more quickly

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

It slowed down our loading speed, albeit only by a trace amount, but I think it's the same with most other network filters as well.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We set up DNS filter to protect our data from malware and whatnot. There were a few criteria that were important for us like time-to-implement, price, how much manual setup was needed, etc., and DNS filter has done very well in all aspects for us. It's priced reasonably and we were able to get it started within 2-3 weeks, and since then, it requied almost no manual imtervention apart from a couple cases where it blocked normal sites. But all in all, it's been a very handy tool to have for our network security efforts

 ### 17. easy way to get started content filtering with advanced features to keep it going

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike D. | owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It's easy to get it rolled out for an entire network.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Handling false positives is tricky with Chromebooks, but that's no fault of DNSfilter, it's more an issue with Android devices.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I set up filtering for a small private school years ago and this worked much better than the filtering appliance they previously had in place. It's a great value for the price.

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> Thank you so much for your response!

 ### 18. DNS Filtration that just Works

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nic C. | CISO, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The streamlined design and intuitive functionality. Customer support is extremely responsive, gives quick and consice answers with little to no time wasted.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I haven't found anything i don't like about DNSfilter. I've never had issues with it or needed to troubleshoot it, it just works and it listens to me.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use DNSFilter to block ads and malicious websites, to further serve our goal of a complete security solution for ourselves and our clients. It has significantly sped up our

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> Nic, thank you so much for your review! We appreciate your thoughts on our product.

 ### 19. DNS Filter is does its Job

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicholas B. | Systems Administrator, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It does its job without much issues. There isn't much to the software in a good way. I need it to filter my DNS requests and not much else. I can blacklist and whitelist sites easily.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The MacOS support they will advertise is lacking. Some features in the Windows environment are missing from the MacOS environment. Makes it kinda annoying to have to support both.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides DNS filtering preventing users from accessing websites or loading resources that they should not be accessing. It helps to protect users' devices when they are off premises.

**Official Response from Joel Martin:**

> Thank you for taking the time to review DNSFilter, we appreciate your feedback. Regarding the missing features comment, next week we will be introducing support for Local Domains and Local Resolvers in macOS RC 1.5.0 (see link). Talking with our customers, that's been the biggest item missing and we're excited to introduce it. If you're interested, we're happy to give you early access to test it out. You can reach out to product@dnsfilter.com.

 ### 20. Roaming DNSFiltering

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Devon C. | Security Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The tool is simple to setup and the roaming client helps protect our machines in a work for home environment.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Due to the nature of the tooling traffic will break sometimes.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This tooling helps by filtering out content requested by our clients and known malicious domains.

 ### 21. Great platform, even greater customer support.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It is incredibly easy to get started. The interface is very user-friendly. If you have any issues, the customer support chat is handy. You get connected to an actual human, not just a chatbot.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The user pricing model is a bit confusing for certain workplace situations. They will try to bill you for every user in the company, even if certain users don't even use a computer or device in the office.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows our users to be protected from undesired websites and connections. It also allows us to pull accurate and user friendly reports so that we can see activity across the company.

 ### 22. Easy-to-use DNS security solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Security and Investigations | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I love how DNS filter is constantly being updated with new features and security updates. This gives me peace of mind knowing that my business is always protected from the latest online threats.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The quality of customer support leaves room for improvement. Additionally, I wish DNS Filter had a better reporting system. It would be helpful to be able to see more detailed information about blocked domains and DNS requests.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love how DNS Filter has helped me to protect our business from malware, phishing, and ransomware. I used to worry about our employees getting infected with malware, but now I can rest easy knowing that DNS Filter is blocking those threats.

 ### 23. DNS Filter directly fills the need many MSPs have

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William P. | Cloud Project Manager, Computer & Network Security, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNS Filter has a rich subset of features and can more or less do what OpenDNS/Cisco Umbrella can do. They also responsive support and I got a live human on the phone pretty easily.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The UI is not very intuitive. There are a lot of nested menus. I more or less needed training from their support in order to do everything I needed to do. These items are minor but are noticeable.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cisco Umbrella and other competitors are designed for very large scale rollouts, DNS filter worked great for one offs and small businesses that we manage as an MSP.

 ### 24. Does what the product claims; good value for the price

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ken L. | Management Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

We use the product for handling business URL filtering. The DNS look ups are fast and the management of allow/deny lists is pretty easy. Reporting is useful. There are some cool features for granular management at an individual machine level. The price is quite reasonable for what it does. It's pretty much set and forget.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I wish you could do a temporary allow -- one that would automatically expire after some time (like 24 hours or 1 week). It's a little tricky to install the per-user agents -- but I suspect that this is because of what it needs to do. One could quible about some of the categories, but it's easy enough to override.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We require filter to keep employees from visiting dangerous or objectionable websites. DNSFilter checks the domains against allow and deny lists and redirects blocked sites to a block pages. Important -- you need to prevent users from overriding their DNS selection and bypassing the DNS to some other one. (True with anything of this category.) We host our own DNS resolver and block all outbound access to port 53.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Ken,

Thank you so much for writing this review. We really value your feedback. I wanted to let you know in regards about what you would like to see on an allow list, we are actually releasing Universal Lists tomorrow, which includes an allow list. You could utilize that once released and easily go delete it from the Allow list once they feel it’s no longer relevant. If you need any additional information don't hesitate to reach out to myself jlaviola@dnsfilter.com or our Product team product@dnsfilter.com

 ### 25. Its raining malware but I wont reach for my Umbrella, but DNS Filter instead

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan M. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The ease of use and overall ability to block applications, limit search engines, block a number of threat types and add good sites to a whitelist or block a known bad site in a blacklist. Reporting is also the BEST I have seen as it is so easy to find good and bad blocks...allowing you to easily and daily to monitor and update lists as needed.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The Application blocking features are a bit rough. I have seen some applications get killed by enabling these features. Outside of the actual app being blocked, it can alter other Apps that use the same port or similar code. Be very careful and test "a lot" before use. Once you ensure no good site or app is blocked, it is a very solid way to stop applications you don't want on your network.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted an additional way to stop malware from executing as most advanced malware must report home and if DNS stops them from doing that even if the PC gets infected, then we have a huge win. DNS Filter is faster than Cisco and to us is easier to use. Read all you want, but know when malware bypasses your endpoint security we dont reach for our (Cisco) Umbrella when that happens...we are glad to be with DNS Filter. I cant even tell you how much LESS cost we pay too. Well worth it!

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Dan,

LOVE this title. Thank you so much for writing this review. Glad to see you find our reporting to be the best you've seen. In regards to the application blocking features we do see an issue where some CDN’s are relied on from other apps, which can cause this issue. Luckily you can add an allow listing to a specific FQDN or domain that will override any of the categorization blocks. If you need anything else out all don't hesitate to reach out. jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 26. DNS Filter Keeps our school safe

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohamed Shamin A. | CTO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

We use DNS Filter in our school, and It protects our students, and it protects us. We are a nonprofit small school and cannot invest thousands of dollars on firewall and content filtering. DNS Filter does it for a fraction of the cost.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

DNS Filter is cool. But we would like to have more AD features.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content filtering, especially adult content from children. We can also implement a safe search with DNS filter quickly.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Mohamed! Thank you so much for your video review! I wanted to let you know if you check out our DNSFilter G2 profile, we have screenshots and videos of our latest--and most requested--feature: Scheduled Reports! A summary of the total number of requests, blocked threats and blocked content categories can be sent at specific intervals. Weekly, bi-weekly and monthly. You can find it under "Reporting" on your dashboard.

 ### 27. The solution we've been looking for!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt H. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

From the end-user perspective, the ease of use and deployment has garnered positive feedback. Also, the central management dashboard makes managing a multi-tenant environment quick and easy.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

We have been using the product for over a year, and our main complaint is the lack of urgency in addressing customer feedback. The feedback forum is full of requests from many partners, and it may take over a year for simple issues to be addressed.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

The price point is hard to match with any other vendor, and with the intuitive setup, you can be online and testing in less than an hour.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Web protection for our clients, both in the office and working remotely. The ease of use has allowed us to deploy the solution quickly with no admin headaches.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Matt!

Thank you this updated review. Glad to see you found from the end-user perspective, the ease of use and deployment has garnered positive feedback. In regards to addressing customer concerns, I wanted to let you know we have expanded our teams since you wrote this review and if you need anything at all you can also email me. jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 28. Competitive price, good features, great customer support!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shawn R. | IT director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like the ability for us to monitor traffic. The analytics are good and pretty easy to read. The customer support has been awesome for me, despite having some issues with setting up relays, they were willing to walk me through or send me to the right channel for solutions. Very friendly!

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The only thing I had trouble with was setting up a relay for granular monitoring. The walk through could be a little more expansive to include more troubleshooting to cover a wider variety of issues.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work for an international boarding school, so monitoring traffic and blocking unsecured sites and malware are vital, along with keeping our students safe online. DNSFilter checks the boxes for us.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello,

Thank you for writing this review! Glad to hear customer support has been awesome. In regards to setting up a relay for granular reporting, we are in the process of overhauling that Relay Documentation as well. We normally send emails out with any product updates, so be on the lookout. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 29. Protective DNS resolver constantly checks our domain name query & prevent malicious site connections

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohana R. | Senior Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

All our endpoints are not affected by any latency issues since DNSFilter offers cloud-oriented DNS protection to our application sites. We make use of its web filtering options to enhance our user security while they access diverse websites. We can also establish its installation in any instance with ease & build multiple pseudo ACL policies based on customer preferences.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

We didn't find anything which is cumbersome while working with DNSFilter. We make use of its filtering schedule approach for setting up different policies based on our site timeframes. It can efficiently filter our user access privileges based on business/non-business hours.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter handles our policy's TTL conditions and when it exceeds the transition point, its TTL is automatically adjusted as per our domain definition. It opts for Response Policy Zone in its Protective DNS functionality for responding to malignant or suspicious DNS queries. In case the content is identified as malicious, domain access requests are immediately restricted for threat mitigation. There are also many client network protocols with which we can strengthen our users with end-to-end protection.

 ### 30. It Just Works!!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joe C. | Owner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

We are a small MSP and DNSFilter is a core part of our Cyber security offering. Setting it up only take a few minutes and BAM!! All the bad traffic is immediately filtered out. Reports show the stuff that's blocked. From there we're able to see bad traffic and take action from there. If something needs to be whitelisted, it's fast and easy. Mobile devices outside of the office network are easy to manage. Their MSP billing model is inexpensive, scalable, with no commitment.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Honestly, I really haven't found anything. I had a small problem setting up a router and I was able to find help on their website.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

It's created for MSPs with the MSP "pay for what you use" model. No long-term contracts. Very straightforward.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Obviously, the DNS filtering that occurs is amazing. Being able to quickly apply policies to a specific group or network is very valuable. We're continually surprised at the visibility this gives us into the types of traffic flowing in out of of these networks. DNSFiltering reporting is great.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Joe!

Want to thank you for your detailed review. We take pride in our set-up being fast and easy, and that you see results immediately! In addition to that, we understand the importance of reporting, so happy to hear you are continuously surprised at the visibility into the types of traffic flowing in and out. Thank you again for choosing us!

 ### 31. Excellent DNS Filtering Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew M. | I.T Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like how easy it is to manage the filtering software from the web portal. It's super straight forward to set up with my networking equipment with clear instructions. I like that it automatically blocks threats without me having to do anything. It also lets me remotely manage both of our locations and networks from the same portal with the same policies. Very useful for saving time setting up the content filtering.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Setting specific filters on an exact domain can be a bit tricky with multiple sites and the VPN but its not a dealbreaker. Users are a bit confused by the roaming client and since our users are admins they think it conflicts with the current VPN solution we have but as I said, not exactly a DNS Filter issue or a dealbreaker.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

It's very easy to set up and use! I'd reccomend it if you are looking at a DNS Filtering product.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making sure that users do not go to websites they shouldnt be and giving me the peace of mind they wont go to obvious malware sites on accident. Also the ability to cast a wide net on things i might not be able to think of with the built in tools. In a few minutes I was able to create specific filters to block sites that our interns were accessing during working hours and should not have been. Overall super helpful.

 ### 32. A+ for DNSFilter

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff W. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Very clean and intuitive UI. They even took a multi-tenant approach for MSPs including global policies and a customizable gif-friendly block page. Implementation was a breeze too.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I can't think of anything, they've hit all the marks for us. I was going to suggest SSO but just confirmed they have that too! It would be nice to have schedulable emailed reports that could be directed to our client point of contact or our QBR reports bin.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Don't waste your time with the competition or at least try DNSFilter first. I tried Webtitan first as they were what my distributor had available and was disappointed in so many ways. Umbrella is just another Cisco product with Cisco-style billing so expect to overpay for what you get.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We rely heavily on the protection the roaming clients provide. With so many remote users we know they're covered where they are. Also getting a broad view accross our client base of the types of traffic our endpoints generate, it is easy to identify problematic users or devices for further investigation.

 ### 33. got it for our guest wifi - I'm impressed

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erik P. | Director of Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2021

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

We offer guest wifi that can get a few hundred connections at peak times. We want to include a reasonable amount of protection, particularly because our users can sometimes include teens and kids. We had a hardware device for filtering this wifi for years, but it finally kicked the bucket, and we explored options.

Not having to worry about maintaining hardware anymore is a nice plus. But, once we signed up for the trial, I was impressed with the options available. Besides the typical categories, it's worth noting that you can schedule different levels of filtering at different times of day and cause major search engines, like Google, to use their Safe Search results. There are some experimental options available that I found intriguing, such as the "interstitial Page Feature," which pauses and performs a real-time automated classification on domains that are being accessed for the first time.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

As for their guest wifi filtering options, setup, configuration, reporting - they exceeded expectations for a DNS-based filtering product and I have no complaints.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

Depending on your situation, you may want to consider a hardware option, but this worked well for us.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is great. G2 on the other hand, well, I would have worded things differently if I had seen this question coming. I think I already answered it above.

 ### 34. Very capable solution getting better all the time.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian C. | VP & Information Security Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The information in the reports is excellent and allows us to see what has been used and what is being blocked quickly. Setup was very simple and easy, and after a week of minor tweaking it is pretty hands-off.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The interface is a little rough around the edges and tool deployment could be made much more manageable and easier to deploy through scripting and automation. From time to time they push updates that break things so

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

It is a very cost-effective solution, it seems like it is still in its infancy but the company is actively working to improve it.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly we use it as part of a required packaged security suite to prevent client's employees from going to websites we don't want; it could be because they are inappropriate for a work environment, pose a security risk. The secondary advantage is that it provides some protection from hacking and other security threats.

 ### 35. I use DNDFilter because why not, it's a no-brainer

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gift Jr N. | Private Tutor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

As a true junkie, I find it oddly(or not) satisfying that AI is infused into the mix.
It's no secret, computers are far more reliable than humans at a lot of tasks.
I can sleep well knowing most threats will be dealt with in time , thanks to our tech friends.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Not much
I'd say though, I wish it was more educative to users, even those who aren't very tech savvy, on the importance of having measures like it in place.
Not just as a marketing tactic, but general safety while browsing the net.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

You simply don't have a reason to go rummaging through the net without an ally like DNSFilter by your side.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was having to manually scan for malicious sites and programs which have become so advanced, firewalls are left in the dust.
I no longer have to deal with such and I'm glad.

 ### 36. DNS Filter for MSPs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pablo B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The ease of use and power of the solution to bring security to local and remote users.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Detection sometimes throws false positives.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Remote work and malware threats.

 ### 37. Great platform to add a security layer to distributed workforces

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Randall L. | Senior Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Multi-Tenancy and Granularity with filtering options. The broad range of deployment capabilities also allows us to use this solution exclusively, rather than needing multiple platforms.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Initial lack of direct integration with AAD. DNSFilter has done a very good job of positioning itself as industry-leading and there's very little to dislike with the product.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter helps solves the distributed workforce problem. Some of what we used to be able to do with a firewall is realized using DNSFilter. Scalability has also improved.

 ### 38. Straightforward DNS management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas C. | IT Support Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like DNSFilter's simple, intuitive interface. The product is easy to navigate and quickly view different sites and reports.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

My main dislike is that there is no way to quickly whitelist a domain without creating and applying a non-default policy to the site. For most of our clients (small businesses), we use a default policy, so it would be nice to quickly whitelist a domain for a single client without duplicating the default policy and modifying it for one domain and then apply that to the site.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives us a simple way to manage DNS for multiple clients

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

>
Thank you Thomas for the feedback. We are glad to hear you find our product easy to navigate and can quickly view different sites and reports. In regards to not being able to quickly whitelist a domain without creating and applying a non-default policy to the site, we’re recruiting for the beta for this very capability and would love to have you participate if you’re interested. We’ll be releasing this to everyone in the next month or so. Stay tuned!”

 ### 39. Easy-yo-use web filtering

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2023

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Love DNSFilter's ease of setup and powerful protection!

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Limited mobile app features, needs improvement.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scalable and efficient, DNSFilter grows with us! Perfect for business expansion.

 ### 40. My favorite DNS protection service.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan S. | Senior Security Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I really like the interface and how easy the deployment is. I've used Umbrella before it was acquired by Cisco as well as Webroot's DNS security, but DNS filter is by far my favorite. The pricing is really nice and I haven't had any issues with the product and it's been over a year. I had some issues with other providers affecting VPN's, but so far DNS filter hasn't affected our VPNs (SonicWALL and Azure Always on VPN).

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

I don't have any real dislikes, but if they could update their data exporter to allow generic syslog that would be great.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

I've tried the competition, DNS filter is better in every way you will not regret choosing them.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNSFilter is protecting all of our DNS queries as well as ensuring categories I have blocked are not accessed.

 ### 41. DNSFilter: the modern way of providing internet-security to computers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Menno d. | System Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The way this cloud-service is providing you the tools to set and forget your security-policy for everything you need. Also, the logs of all allowed and blocked events are amazing.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Sometimes a website is put in the wrong catergory, but you have everything available to fix this when needed.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Because of the cloud part, it's always up-to-date without admin intervention. It's just working, and that's what I like about it.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hi Menno,

Thanks for writing us this review! Glad to hear things have been working out well for you. Apologies for when a website gets miscategorized, but good to see it's gotten fixed. If you need anything at all don't hesitate to reach out to my email jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 42. DNS Filtering

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Building Materials | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Easy to use and implement. Had it set up and deployed to a test group in minutes.
They have a roaming client for both our Windows Laptops and iPhones. Both of which were easily deployed via Intune.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Not many downsides to adding this layer of security to your environment. Unless you need/want to do SSL inspection.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

If you're looking at other products, such as WebTitan, Webroot, or Umbrella, take a look at DNSFilter. Do the research and compare.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content filtering and threat protection. Setup what categories you want to allow or block, and block all the Threat categories. Adds a nice, simple layer to our security stack.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello,

Thank you for writing us this review! Glad to hear you have found it easy to use and implement. Thanks for mentioning to really take a look at our product when you are thinking about competitors. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. jlaviola@dnsfiler.com

 ### 43. DNS for MSP

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter has been a great tool for reporting and giving us an insight on the customers network. The user interface is easy to use and deploy. Since we can push with our RMM deployment makes it easy.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Reporting while great can use some work. Also some items make it difficult to see which user is viewing what site. Integration with our RMM would make it easier as well.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Some of our customers are remote with as most are and it makes blocking sites difficult. We have this deployed in various states and it makes us feel good knowing the client is protected.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello!

Thank you so much for writing this review. We appreciate you taking the time. Glad to hear you find our user interface easy to use and deploy and that our product has helped you protect your remote workers. In regards to reporting, we are definitely working on making this better. It has been something our MSP’s have requested heavily! We just released Scheduled Reports (you can find more info on our G2 profile) with summaries, but we are working on releasing more reports in the near future. If you need anything more, don't hesitate to reach out jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 44. Better than Comodo

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio F. | Warehouse & IT Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2019

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is so easy to use with blocking sites, categories, and designing block pages. The block pages are nice and simple and do what i need them to do as well as having the ability for entering the bypass password.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

at the moment it has been working pretty well for our company and don't have anything i dislike about DNSFilter. One thing that would be nice to have is a mobile app but their mobile site function well.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using DNSFilter to block websites and help secure our network and devices. I have realized that when browsing in web seems to be much more efficient and that users can request a web page to be unblocked right from the block page.

 ### 45. Very reliable with a variety of methods to integrate dNSfilter into you network infrastructure.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary C. | IT Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The support responds quickly and the staff always follows through with their promises.
The clean easy-to-use web-based interface is set up quick and easy. Once configured updating and adding features is simple and straightforward.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The list of dislikes gets shorter all of the time. They have continually added features and capabilities to DNSfilter. The biggest flaw I see now is the WebGUI seems to lag the feature updates, especially in the help section.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

If you need an affordable reliable web filtering tool DNSfilter is the one to use.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are providing reliable effective web filtering for content and malware at a reasonable price. It is easily deployed on multiple operating systems, Windows, IOS, Chromebooks, Linux, and others.

 ### 46. Simple and Effective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

The reporting is very comprehensive. All relevant data that you need to ensure everything is working as desired is at your fingertips. Very simple to set up and configure.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

The per-user pricing model for a DNS filtering service is a cash grab typically seen by Oracle and Cisco. DNS request volume-based tiers or tiered services based on the plan would make more sense.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filtering specific content based on the needs of each customer. The ability to fine-tune the policies to suit their unique needs is one of the main reasons we chose dnsfilter.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello,

Thank you for writing this review. Glad to hear you've found our reporting to be comprehensive and that setup was very simple. In regards to the per-user pricing model, we are really flexible with our pricing, and typically we bill you off of what you have the least of. To break it down: if you have 20 computers that need protection, but only 5 users, we would bill you off those 5 users, and the same works vice versa. If you have 20 users and only 5 machines, we would bill you off those 5 machines. In addition to the User/Device Billing, we do offer query-based billing in certain use cases. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out jlaviola@dnsfilter.com

 ### 47. Great product to help you stop your users from being Phished!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cheyenne H. | O, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter is easy to configure and use. End users don't even know you've implemented it until a malicious site has been blocked.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

DNSFilter's default seems to be "parked" domains. If they haven't seen a website then the site is marked as Parked. Make sure to block parked domains!

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

DNS Filter is a must-have when creating a layered security approach. If name resolution is not secure then you can expect an increase in your business's attack surface.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Users who don't pay attention to their security training still click on phishing links in emails. DNSFilter does a great job of blocking users from getting to these sites! This can save you from having a data breach!

 ### 48. Protection even when you didn't know you needed it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly Speers, Author and I. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

I like the setup and deployment. Very straightforward and easy to manage.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Being too simple in the categories I would like more of a detailed list to block but that may be overwhelming I suppose.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DNS Filters adds a layer of protection to our clients and the roaming systems that aren't always behind our firewall.

**Official Response from Jenine Laviola:**

> Hello Kelly,

Thank you for writing this review! We appreciate you taking the time. Glad to hear setup and deployment has been very straightforward and easy to manage. I will certainly pass along your feedback about more detailed categories to our product team. If you need anything at all please don't hesitate to reach out to my email jlaviola@gmail.com

 ### 49. Fast and easy to deploy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2022

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

Protect an entire network in a minute. DNSFilter already saved us from some malwares before antivirus alert as the domain used to download malicious payload was blocked by DNSFilter.
It's our first level of defense and a great web filtering tool for all devices in the company (including IoT). The roaming client gives us the same level of protection for our external users.
The interstitial feature is also really good as it protect us from unknow websites without too many user support.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

Sometimes the interstitial feature is taking too long to analyze in real time a website, and we need to allow the domain manually (whitelist) to give instant access to our users.

**Recommendations to others considering DNSFilter:**

I suggest to do a POC

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We looked for a web filtering solution that was easy to deploy to cover all our devices inside the network and follow our roaming users. It is cloud based so we don't have to maintain any server, and the roaming client is updating automatically so we don't have too much support.

**What do you like best about DNSFilter?**

It's nice that it can be used as part of a domain environment or independently for remote workers and is very customizable. Saves the need for a vpn for filtering. Great for staff with laptops and ensuring the DNS is always safe.

**What do you dislike about DNSFilter?**

It's unfortunate they don't have Canadian Dollar billing for Canadian Partners. I don't have any concerns with the technical aspect of the software. It works as designed and am very happy with the solution.

**What problems is DNSFilter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping our client's web traffic safe and ensuring that when they are on the road traveling they have DNS protection for a multilayered security solution as it works independently for our other layers.

## DNSFilter Discussions
 - [Would you ever consider attempting to take the top most frequently blocked sites/urls across all of your educational institution clients and within the filtering system suggest these in the blacklist portal for policy editing? This could help us all stay on the same page in regards to the popular trends/games the students are into at that time and be a little more proactive for our administration. For example, there was a hit game called surviv.io that was blocked by the gaming policy but could be found at ~10 diff URLs across the web, making it hard to block completely. I'm sure this feature would require a lot but just a wondering for the future :)](https://www.g2.com/discussions/34820-would-you-ever-consider-attempting-to-take-the-top-most-frequently-blocked-sites-urls-across-all-of-your-educational-institution-clients-and-within-the-filtering-system-suggest-these-in-the-blacklist-portal-for-policy-editing-this-could-help-us-all-) - 2 comments, 1 upvote
