## DiskStation Reviews
  ### 1. Easy to Implement, Intuitive, and Versatile on Synology NAS, but has some bugs..

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

It's easy to implement and the user interface is intuitive. There are also lots of software packages that work with it, so it's fairly versatile. Some of the built-in packages are a little basic and buggy, so it's hard to do the backups the way you would want to. It is rather slow sometimes and it hangs up every now and then. It's a closed system, so the price of the product is the price of the hardware it arrives with. It's not cheap because it only works on the Synology NAS systems. Support is adequate because there is comprehensive documentation. There are no AI features built into the system directly. Only 3rd party AI system can be implemented. There is a good bit of intelligence built in to make sure that the hardware is working nominally.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

It's really basic. You have to constantly stay on top of it to make sure it's not breaking. Especially if you are using the HyperBackup feature. Sometimes, things that are working just break suddenly because of an update or something else. It's also hit or miss when it comes to network discoverability.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It lets me keep all my personal and business data backed up without having to pay extra for cloud storage.

  ### 2. Centralized File Management with Reliable Sharing Capabilities

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2026

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

I like DiskStation for its great combination of reliable performance, flexible permission settings, and simple operation, making it a perfect fit for our small consumer goods team. Its fine-grained access control stands out to me the most because we can set distinct access rights for different external contacts and internal team members. It allows me to create read-only shared links for clients and grant edit access to colleagues for specific files, while also setting expiration dates for shared links to protect business data. Moreover, DiskStation is extremely stable and easy to use, even for those without IT expertise. Uploading and sorting files is effortless, and generating share links takes only a few clicks. The upload and download speeds remain stable, even with large files, which is crucial for timely client responses. Additionally, the neat file classification and search tools bring convenience, allowing me to create dedicated folders and quickly locate documents with keywords, thereby improving efficiency during multiple client inquiries.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

One noticeable area that could be optimized is the mobile interface of DiskStation. The mobile layout feels rather cumbersome and disorganized compared to the desktop version. The menu structure is layered too deeply, so it takes multiple taps just to locate basic functions. Creating a new shared link or modifying existing access rights is especially tricky on mobile; the operation steps are not straightforward, and I often spend extra time figuring out where to find relevant settings. Unlike the clean, one-click workflows on desktop, these routine tasks become inefficient on mobile devices. If the developer could simplify the mobile layout, streamline the operation paths for frequently used features like link generation and permission management, and put core tools in more visible positions, the overall mobile experience would be vastly improved.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use DiskStation for centralized file storage, fixing issues like scattered files, messy versions, and insecure sharing. It lets me organize documents for quick retrieval, ensures everyone accesses the latest versions, and facilitates safe, permission-controlled external file delivery, enhancing our team's efficiency and collaboration.

  ### 3. Easy Setup and Flexible Backup Options

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steven T. | Service Desk Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

I like DiskStation's ease of use and flexibility with its functions. It's very easy to set up, and we use it for storing client backups offsite. The backup feature is handy when we need to back up any client servers or complete a client device migration. If we need to restore, we can do so directly to a client site. Additionally, I appreciate the ability to create file shares and complete live restores to our servers.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

The active backup functions could be more robust, like quicker snapshotting or backup encryption.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use DiskStation for storing client backups offsite. Its ease of use and flexibility are great for backups and migrations. I can restore directly to client sites and create file shares, which makes handling data seamless.

  ### 4. Robust Solution for Secure On-Premise Data Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Schauer A. | Marketing Operations Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2026

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

I really like the stability and reliability of DiskStation. It runs consistently in the background with almost no downtime, which is critical for our daily operations. The system feels solid, secure, and built for long-term business use. I also appreciate the control it gives us over our own data, which is essential in Germany for GDPR and internal compliance. We can manage permissions, backups, and access exactly how we need. The interface is intuitive enough for our team to learn quickly, making secure file management much simpler than expected.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Although the system is powerful, initial setup and advanced configuration require strong technical knowledge. Tasks like setting up RAID, adjusting network settings, or integrating with company-wide authentication take significant time and expertise. Smaller teams without dedicated IT staff would likely struggle to fully utilize the system’s capabilities.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DiskStation centralizes data storage, ensuring security and compliance with GDPR by keeping data on-premise. It solves issues with scattered files and unreliable backups, reduces data loss risk, and gives our team peace of mind with reliable automated backups.

  ### 5. Smooth UI, Reliable for Legacy Data Access

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob H. | Technical Analyst II, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2026

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

I like the DiskStation's UI because it's very smooth and easy for anyone with internet access to learn, and it makes managing data access very straightforward. Over time, I've noticed the UI has improved a lot, with many quality of life changes compared to older versions where you had to dig into sub-menus for different tasks.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

I would definitely like their sessions to move back to where they were as I had to research to where it was when users had issues with stuck sessions. Also, for some who have not previously set up similar systems, it would be a little challenging and research would be needed.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use DiskStation to access data on legacy machines that newer file servers don't support. The UI is smooth, easy to learn, and manage, with many quality improvements over time.

  ### 6. DiskStation: Easy Setup, Effortless Reliability

I find DiskStation very easy to use and manage, plus it's ready out of the box. The control panel is very intuitive, and all the options I need are easy to find. I use DiskStation for storing, sharing, and backing up files. I like that it guides me through the setup process, making it very easy.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Maybe the price on the hardware is a little high, but the software is good

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use DiskStation to store, share, and backup files and manage users and permissions. It's easy to manage and works with Synology Drive and Microsoft 365 for file syncing and backups.

  ### 11. Best small business server for ease of use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

The online portals and apps assist people that might be new to utilizing a server.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Even with the apps and tutorials, there are a lot of unanswered questions. There doesn't seem to be any type of a local team to help a business out. Out of office access is slow. No fault of their own.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

Watch some tutorials before the initial setup. Utilize their chat as well. There may be some setup snags along the way if you are brand new to using and setting up servers like I was.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had multiple hard drives with different and sometimes duplicated information. Many people needed access to them. This solves that situation.

  ### 12. Full featured amazing and reliable product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2022

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

Backup all data to Amazon S3. Has LDAP server, SMTP server for disaster notifications.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

It's new mandatory proprietary backup format makes disaster recovery annoying. But enabling legacy backup will avoid this problem.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Shared files with colleagues in the same local network. Speedy access especially with large files, where cloud drive is not the best option.

  ### 13. Safe storage of all company documentation !!!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafael P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2020

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

It is a powerful platform that has helped us in a large percentage when it comes to encrypting the most important data that we handle every day, to which we can implement a range of security, which is necessary to protect and even manage them with confidence, We add this to a complete verification of access controls on each device, allowing us to monitor in real time, finding threats faster to prevent them from achieving their objective and even irreversibly entering the system. Likewise, we can configure it so that there are no downtimes, eliminating the probability of threat filtering by 99.9%, this backup is very advantageous in relation to laptops.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

The operating system with which it was developed should be updated, this would allow a much faster development than it currently offers, which is good and very powerful, but an improvement would not hurt, this is also due to its high-end hardware Low space usage which can limit performance compared to Intel-based hardware.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

In the field of security and data storage, this platform is the most intelligent, and its implementation is very easy to configure. For its part, the interface and its functions are extremely professional, accommodating features that generate a lot of confidence and peace of mind. Its cloud-based development capacity facilitates access both in the company and outside, giving you the freedom to access files when necessary, making it very easy to find a document on this platform even on mobile devices thanks to its complete filter search, without a doubt its management, storage and security of documents is the most beneficial thing that an organization can have.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We manage the websites, networks and emails with access control in the interactions that may arise. It is the best way we have to store documents and create a backup or backup, and then find what we are looking for easily through a highly professional filter, it is also very easy to use and understand. Certainly the entire team of developers and administrators rely on its functions for the performance and optimization of the workflow.

  ### 14. Filter control and security for me is an attractive service !!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda M. | Business Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2020

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

Through this platform we encrypt our data, giving it the necessary security to protect it and even manage it with confidence. We verify access controls and perform real-time monitoring, which allows us to find or detect threats before they perpetuate themselves in the system and cause us irreversible damage. We configured it to be fully active, that is, there are no downtimes so there is no probability of threat filtering. We can also access the NAS remotely and use it for storage and backup which is advantageous in relation to the capacity of laptops.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Sometimes obstacles may arise in which it is necessary to go to online support, certainly, they may not have the necessary amount of videos and information with which they can satisfy any problem, this can be a nuisance for some of the users, however we do not feel uncomfortable with this, we simply look for information from other sources familiar with the platform and find a quick solution.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

It is the best option in terms of security and storage of important data, the platform is intelligent, easy to configure even for those who are new to networking and online storage. It's professional, provides essential features that build a lot of confidence. It is a cloud-based tool, which facilitates access both in the company and outside of it, allowing access to files when required, in addition, it is very easy to find a document on this platform thanks to its complete search filter, For this reason, it is a powerful document management, storage and security software.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We improved our authentication path. We manage our websites with granular control of the various accesses to them. We store documents locally and at the same time we also create a backup copy of them in the cloud, to later find what we are looking for easily, taking into account that the menus are very easy to use and understand, that is, it has made it easier for us to make copies security of critical data, as well as access to that data. Even our developers thrive on its features as it helps them with AIO backups.

  ### 15. DiskStation Save and Backup.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2020

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

For us, it is an innovative system. DiskStation allows us to keep our files and documents safe in the cloud system, in this way we save each of our information and back it up, avoiding loss or theft from third parties, mainly for us it allows us to free memory space in the computer adding this space to the cloud where it is now much more secure and with a security filter, I like it.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

I have no drawbacks regarding the system, I liked its functionality, opening solutions for us in the sense of saving in the cloud, now we keep information backed up and from what I have observed there are no complaints about its function, so I love it.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

This service works for us and can serve other companies by providing backup and security solutions in addition to thinking about features that provide solutions.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely the first problem solved is the freeing of space in our main memory disk in the computer. Now we keep this information protected in the cloud, but it also allows saving files in cloud , which is safer and with a greater filter, if we want to use this system In the database it makes it much easier to manage because it eliminates any duplicate data, erroneous information in this way we maintain a more optimized base. There are many ideas that can be carried out with this software.

  ### 16. DiskStation fast and secure sales with a great team.

It is easy to install, it produces applications that handle everything from CRM and CMS installations to security cameras and virtualization. It has an optimal customer service and with the greatest disposition to help the user through email and mobile phone. It is fast and very useful.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Our results have been very good and satisfactory, the only thing I should mention is that it has a high learning curve and they should update it, that would be the only thing. I have no relative comment, since I have not presented any problems or inconveniences.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

It is recommended for any company, backups and backups allow to obtain a secure database, it generates confidence and a lot of peace of mind. It is always constantly updated, it is functional and also its interface is easy to navigate despite the learning curve that it has.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform has a high learning curve for some people but it is essential to know how to use it to get all the effective performance and get the most out of Disktation. The security updates are really fast and compatible with previous versions, at this time it runs on the most recent siygnology hardware, as well as the oldest, its configuration is simple and the system allows us to perform an optimal job with the best performance and total fluidity.

  ### 17. Definitely Great for Home/Small Business Use, Decent for Professional Use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Berkley S. | Systems Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2019

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

I love the ease of use, the GUI web based management console, the plethora of features offered, and the native integrations of so many tools.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

The speeds for production use are a little shy of what I'd expect for enterprise applications.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

Make sure you know what speeds and access to your data you need. The synology is a very cost effective solution, but at some enterprise application speeds the I/O can be a little slow depending on your needs.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to move a lot of our long-term cold storage to the diskstation and save on costs vs other enterprise storage options

  ### 18. Generally stable - Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve C. | Owner, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2018

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

The DiskStation Manager is one of the best parts of a Synology device. Loaded with excellent applications and built with the common user in mind it doesn't fail. Many of the basic features are quickly available from the main menu. Other items are available in the Control Panel.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

Some items aren't immediately obvious and some applications aren't fully developed but they continue to improve it.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

This is a worthy product. I recommend it to many of my clients and use it personally.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cheap iscsi raid for local backup storage. DS Note is a worthy replacement for organizations that don't want their evernote/keep/one note data in the cloud. DS Video is an amazing tool for streaming your own content.

  ### 19. Synology DiskStation - Great solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frank B. | EVP, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2018

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

The ease of use for the solution, tied in with the Synology Product line, makes a great 1 - 2 punch for all of your NAS needs and wants. Whether you are a one-person shop, or you have a small or medium-size business, Synology has the solution for you,

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

It is a little confusing in getting the right NAS for a client, sometimes you will have to reach out to Synology directly.

**Recommendations to others considering DiskStation:**

Continue to add new features to this solution, any company can start with a NAS, and have it grow with them as needed. Need more hard drive space upgrade or add new drives to the current unit. Looking to deploy a second unit for data redundancy not an issue, software is available for FREE to Sync 1 to another unit.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A client needed to have a backup for their O365, as well as a location for all their confidential documents, so key individuals could have access to them.

  ### 20. Nice OS for your Netowrk Attached Storge

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2018

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

Synology does a great job with their DiskStation software. It is simple but robust, full of endless features for all types of scenarios for your network storage. Some great features include email server, cloud backup and even a web server.

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

I have had a weird issues with the DiskStation and Windows Explorer in Windows 7. Sometimes, windows will not allow you to create files and folders inside the NAS folders, it provides an error saying the folder is in use by a program, but the folder is not. It is a weird bug that I have only experienced when using this software with Windows 7.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DiskStation offers a nice, simple solution to network storage. We have benefited from the easy setup and integration and the native cloud backup feature helps backup our important files automatically to Google Drive.

  ### 21. Good produce but underlying Unix not ideal

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2019

**What do you like best about DiskStation?**

Easy administration with nice guy and security features that make sense to average people

**What do you dislike about DiskStation?**

The Unix interaction is not great. They use some type of abstraction tool (“box?”). Pure Unix is preferred by me.

**What problems is DiskStation solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Shared cifs and nfs Storage in small office settings
