This does not work for iPhone recovery using a windows computer. From all the positive reviews I saw no warnings or statments of this. I assumed it would work from the review and videos and went strait to the paid version.

Nothing. It does not work. The software tells you how many things it can do to fix your drive. I used the trial and it will ask you to buy the Pro version to fix the problems. My hard drive was giving me problems. I downloaded Disk Drill as a demo. The demo allows me to scan my drive. The demo told me that in order to fix the drive I need to purchase the pro version. I made the payment. Then the software after being paid and doing the scan, tell me "we can not fix the drive". What? I wrote them explaining the situation for a refund. They do not want to refund me. I followed all the instructions prior to purchasing, but you have to purchase the product to actually recover more than 500mgs of data. I purchased the product, and ran a deep scan. First of all it's important to know that the application does not maintain your file structure- it lumps everything by file type, e.g., all the jpgs end up in the same folder regardless of where they came from. This would create a nightmare if you've organized files in some way- you'll have to reorganize everything- but they don't tell you this. The scan showed a lot of files were recoverable, so I said recover. It took awhile, and it created a folder on the drive I was boot from. When I went to open the files in the folder, they wouldn't open. I also tried to open many of the applications that had been recovered. Also no dice. It actually turns out it will not recover applications, but they don't tell you that either. I checked all the directions, and I had done everything that was instructed. I ran the recover again, but had the same result. At this point (each step takes many hours) I decided that I would like to try a different product. I emailed and asked for a refund. They said that was done on a case by case biases, and asked me to document a bunch of things about my system, disks, etc. I answered all the questions. They then wrote back and said they needed MORE proof, screen shots of files that would open in preview, but not open after recovery. They stated that just because some files didn't recover, that wasn't their problem- and that I should have checked EVERY file in preview prior to purchasing!!! In the end they said "We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied. Unfortunately, we are unable to proceed with a refund according to our Terms of Sale, which you've agreed to upon purchase. " And that was that! If their product doesn't work- to damn bad- they are keeping your money anyway! In the end I purchased Stellar and it worked perfectly and was able to recover my data! Losing your files can be truly stressful. One of the great features of Disk Drill is how robust and feature-loaded the BASIC (free) version is. The app features many great features beyond file restoration, including Drive Clean Up, Duplication Finder, and DMG backups.

The app looks easy to use. It boasts a simple UI with loads of functionality. Each function area features a minimalist full-color screen that explains how it works and invites users to watch tutorial videos. Overall, the interface is appealing and seemingly easy to use. The product's recovery system doesn't work on our MAC. For context, we had a massive data loss of core projects accidentally trashed. We FULLY tested the BASIC version, and it failed to find any deleted files. The PRO edition offers a deeper scan and more robust recovery methods—so we purchased it. Installation of PRO requires an additional plugin that keeps crashing and re-installing after every restart. Eventually, we did get the additional plugin to work and FULLY tested the PRO version, but still no result. It never found any deleted files.

After numerous emails with support and hours of testing, they dropped the bomb on us and stated that it doesn't work on MACs with SSDs. Unfortunately, SSDs have been standard in MACs since 2015. If you're tech-savvy and have another MAC, you may be able to finagle your way through a "target" drive technique they mention.

Losing files can be stressful. Our expectation of Customer Service would be to help you recover files. Instead of focusing on the customer and the root problem, it becomes more of a justification of why the product may not be working. We jumped through every hoop the Disk Drill team put before us and never managed to get the app to scan files properly. The app never worked. Even in a mock test of a recently deleted file, it could not find recently deleted files. So while customer service makes an effort to help, they seem bothered and defensive of the product. There's more effort to remind you that the product is non-refundable than there is help.

TO SUMMARIZE: For us, the product failed at its one job: recovery.

IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? Maybe. Despite our negative experience, many users love it. As mentioned before, the BASIC version has tons of great features. If it works for you, support your developers and purchase it. Buyer beware: their software is NOT REFUNDABLE and it states as much at point of purchase. Disk Drill scans the drive and finds deleted and orphaned files and identifies them by type. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

No utility ever recovers everything when a drive crashes or the directory gets corrupted. Also Disk Drill often identifies the same file multiple times with only the type shown so you have to manually comb through the files to make sure of what you have recovered. I thought all was lost on an encrypted external HFS journaled hard drive when it would no longer mount. I had many photos and media on the 4tb drive that were not redundant on other drives, so recovery was crucial. I tried fsck at the command line to no avail. With the academic discount, the price was just under 80 bucks, after a deep scan, voila my files were recovered. I highly recommend. A discount data recovery job runs about 500-700 bucks, so this was much cheaper and efficacious. You can also make an image of a drive that doesn't mount in your os. I will have to try the delete duplicates on my SSD which boots my OS, seems like nifty feature. Final verdict: highly recommend. Its worth the money over competitors. I wish it was a bit cheaper. 49 bucks seems like my sweet point. But whatever, its definitely cheaper and time saving vs delegating this task to a 3rd party data recovery operation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There is plenty of freeware that works just as well if all you want is a jumble of incorrectly sorted unusable files. Don’t pay for this. The only good use is if you just want to recover deleted images all out of order in one lump folder. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
