## Directorist Reviews
  ### 1. The Demo Is the Best Version of This Product You Will Ever See

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rex J. | Visual Marketing Strategist, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Directorist?**

The demo. Directorist demos beautifully. The feature list is long, the admin panel looks organized, and the initial setup creates the impression that someone has already solved the hard problems for you. If the product performed the way it presents itself during evaluation, it would be a genuinely great plugin. It does not.

**What do you dislike about Directorist?**

Three things, and they compound each other.

First, design flexibility is a fiction. Styles are hardcoded into the plugin so aggressively that making basic visual changes means writing CSS overrides on top of inline styles that Directorist injects on its own. You are not customizing your directory. You are fighting someone else's design decisions with a wrench.

Second, WordPress integration is poor for a WordPress plugin. Standard themes and common plugins (caching, page builders, image optimizers) routinely conflict with Directorist. The vendor's own documentation lists these conflicts, which reads less like a help article and more like a confession. I needed custom code just to get it to coexist with a normal WordPress installation.

Third, major updates destroy your work. I would spend weeks building layouts and writing workarounds for problems one and two, and then an update would roll through and wipe it all out. Not subtle regressions. Complete, start-from-zero layout destruction. After two years of that cycle, I stopped trusting the product entirely.

**What problems is Directorist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is not. I no longer use it.

I run a tourism directory and needed a plugin for structured listings, filtering, and search. Directorist markets itself as exactly that. In practice, I spent more time maintaining Directorist than building my actual business. The plugin slowed my site noticeably, support was slow and usually amounted to "run a plugin conflict test" (their way of blaming everything else on your WordPress install), and the "AI-Powered" label in the plugin name is marketing copy for a setup wizard. There is no meaningful AI functionality.

The ROI over two years was negative. I paid for premium extensions, invested hundreds of hours in workarounds, and ultimately built a custom directory system from scratch. That custom system cost less time to build than Directorist cost to maintain, and it has not broken itself a single time since launch.

  ### 2. Seemed great but never delivered!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Restaurants | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2024

**What do you like best about Directorist?**

It seemed really good with several useful themes but sadly it just doesn' t work.

**What do you dislike about Directorist?**

It doesn't automatically update.
They have some funky self contained licensing system that never allow for automatic updates through Wordpress.

**What problems is Directorist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cureently none. As I sadi before it really just doesn't work. Won't update.

If you want to do what should really be basic functionality for "The Most Complete WordPress Directory Plugin" good luck. The standard answer is "that will require custom coding' or it's in our plans but never materializes.
