DAM allows an organization to tag and organize images, videos, and other digital assets for quick retrieval. DAM systems are typically easy to use, but cloud-based solutions can get pricey with higher amounts of data...especially as video assets become higher resolution formats. Whether you're using a dedicated tool like Amplience or Scene7, or digital asset management tools built into products like commercetools Frontend, it's important for any one who's managing content across multiple channels to have a tool that increases efficiency and reduces friction when building out customer experiences. When using a digital asset manager, certain things are automated that eliminate hours and hours of what used to be manual work. Sometimes that's as simple as automatically resizing assets for different screen sizes, sometimes it's the ability to completely reframe and edit an image without having to utilize an offline, more manual workflow. And of course, digital asset management improves collaboration between team members by making it easier to organize and find images, whitepapers, and other content. Digital asset management solves helps with organizing and locating files shared with content teams. Being able to tag assets, being able search and filter and sort, all reduce the time it takes to chase down an image or a video. By centralizing where this work is done, it helps the content team break bad habits of looking on a shared drive, or dropbox, or searching your inbox, etc. And using digital asset management gives a more fine-grained control over access - who can view assets, who can upload them, who can edit them, and so forth. What I like most about Digital Asset Management is how much time and resources it has saved our organization. It has helped organize our assets and created better processes along the way. Nothing I dislike, but it isn't easy when working with hundreds of thousands of assets and ensuring all the assets have the correct permissions and metadata to be found easily. Some departments didn't know our organization had a wide range of assets available to them. They didn't know what departments to reach out to or what to ask.
