I use Dext for receipt extraction and Making Tax Digital for sole traders and landlords. I appreciate how it makes it extremely easy to upload receipts and publish to other accounting software. I really like the auto extraction and AI functionality. On Dext, I can set up rules and auto publishing, which saves a lot of time compared to manual processing. The AI also makes suggestions for what the expense may relate to. I find Dext much better and simpler to operate than QuickBooks MTD. The initial setup was very easy, taking just a few minutes. Dext doesn't have bank reconciliations. It would be better if you can cancel subscriptions immediately rather than on an annual basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nik, sounds like auto publish and the AI suggestions are doing exactly what they should for your MTD workflow. On bank reconciliation, Dext is not built to replace that step entirely, but with Xero or QBO connected, it highlights unreconciled items so nothing slips through. On cancellations, annual plans do tend to work out cheaper if that timing flexibility matters less to you. Since you are already covering property and sole trader expenses, mileage claims might be worth a look too as you can log business travel directly in Dext using standard reimbursement rates instead of tracking it separately. Thanks for your review.
