I must admit that of all the ones I have tested this is the one I liked the most, in fact it provides the user with the components that make it easier to create WEB pages. Among the components that I have tested probably this is the most complete from the documentary point of view and examples. I found the part that validates the digital signature in PDF files very useful. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** I don't like the fact that they still don't support the CADES digital signature typology in the creation of pdf (they only support the PADES standard) they support the signature via web browser ... it would have really made me comfortable. They do not support interaction with RTL systems. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** I recommend using it for anyone like me who needs to use an environment based on WLC components and needs to improve the look and feel of their web pages, or anyone who needs to speed up some web features but doesn't have the time to do it in first person **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** The use of the DevExpress API has simplified my life in my work, even their technical support is not bad within 24 hours they have always responded. ### 4. The controls cover the entire spectrum of application. Windows, web and mobile applications, and just about every popular technology and programming template. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** I can't say I don't like something special. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** I recommend DevExpress. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our customers are large enterprises and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia. Our users are accustomed to high standards of functionality and user interface. By using Devexpress controls, we successfully meet their expectations. We created several specialized projects co-sponsored by the World Bank and the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture for the Ministry of Agriculture. We use DevExpress in our own branded products like Metric-ERP, Metric-CRM, Metric-DAQ Laboratory for data acquisition calculation and presentation, Metric-WebShop. ### 5. The plugin code is very customizable and we can use it for standardizing the implementation across the platforms. The software itself has snippets for all the web scripting such as plain js, angular, MVC etc, so it's really a cross technology compatible plugin. There is strong community support as well to help for any stuck issues. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** Some of the options on the grid settings are tricky to customize to implement with Sharepoint REST API. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** If you are looking for cool grids, and customized plugins for charts, this is the software to buy. This offers a lot more than other freeware plugins. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use the plugins to standardize the UX across our platform websites implementation. The grids are really cool with customizations that allow for filtering, sorting, grouping and exporting to excel options. These are very popular with our clients. ### 7. Additionally, the best support of any software I have ever experienced. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** Some of the more complex controls (e.g. layout control) can be difficult to implement for more than basic use. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** For those considering Winforms development, I would consider DevExpress a must-have. The support is outstanding, readily available and responsive. The tutorials and demos included help to get up to speed on how to use their controls quickly. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** I need to release new internal business applications in a Winforms environment quickly in most cases. We are a manufacturing company and visual display is an important element for many of our applications. Ease of use and performance are also critical. Devexpress controls have great functionality out of the box (I'm still finding new functionality that I didn't know existed years later). ### 8. The DevExpress libraries and user interface controls provide shortcuts and easy to use features that may help speed up programming implementation in your applications. DevExpress libraries are a major leg up from the default .NET framework controls in both ASP.NET and WinForms. The design of the user controls is superb. Generally, they work well. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** Keeping your libraries or controls up to date comes with its own overhead. You have to check maintenance notes from DevExpress for possible bug fixes that affect you and your applications and you also must be wary of new releases as the release may introduce new bugs or new unexpected behavior that affect your applications that are using any DevExpress library or user control. It is code that you do not control. The controls may be pricey to use. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** The various options may be pricey and when you incorporate DevExpress libraries into your project you are accepting those as dependencies. Dependencies can come back to bite you down the line if you are not careful. For example, the AjaxControlToolkit library has been a stable of a project that I have been working on for the last 4 years and a bug surfaced with a couple of its controls that required an upgrade. You have to stay on top of the upgrades and be weary before upgrading because the new version of the library may break things. Essentially, you're buying shortcuts by getting access to easier to use user interface controls that have a lot more features and are able to do a whole lot more than the default framework controls. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ajax calendar and time pickers that do not require server post backs in order to select a valid date and time. Those controls have made it a lot easy to allow my users to enter dates and times through my business applications. The DevExpress AjaxControlToolkit also provides validation controls that make it easy to provide quick responsive validation on form entry fields for users. I am grateful for the ASP.net modal pop up controls that made it easy for me to create modal pop up windows that display to my users. ### 9. It takes 15 secs to load, while the others where all about 45 seconds. DV would group in 7 seconds, while the others took nearly 45 seconds. A couple of the other controls packages locked up! (fyi, the data was being loaded from Mongo). Databinding in Devexpress works flawlessly. Also, the best thing is their support, if you open a ticket, they respond within 48 hours, which is amazing. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** The documentation and the support center for the WPF controls feels less complete than the WinForms documentation. While this is probably just my personal impression, I was almost always able to find an answer to a certain problem I had with the WinForms controls on the DX website, I'm not that successful with the WPF controls. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using built in tools to enhance our development, and not reinvent the wheel. It helps us speed up the SDLC and it adds value to the application with the cool new and sleek UI. ### 10. They have amazing tools and pretty much can do anything, from calendar designs to email, grid data, templates. Amazing tools they have. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** Some things are just really complicated. There are no out of the box behaviors, you have to write behaviors, I wish they had behaviors/attached properties for common functionalities that could be done with the controls. Sometimes the customization of the product is also limited. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are rewriting our legacy WinForm code in the shiny DevExpress WPF Controls. It is out of the box solutions for displaying data, retrieving and manipulating it. It has helped us a lot. ### 11. It's just a matter of drag and drop into your solution wether is ASP.net/VB.net/etc. and then just customize everything else through regular code. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** It's a very heavy install so you have to make sure there's enough space available in your dev environment. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** Make sure you keep your object controls up to date. **What problems is DevExpress solving and how is that benefiting you?** Made it easy to create a reporting ASP app for the office, just drag and drop plus SQL queries. ### 13. Not only is it the most versatile but it also comes with probably some of the best customer service in the business. They have their own stackoverflow style website and you really can get any answer you need on it without ever posting a question. **What do you dislike about DevExpress?** It does change some of the default values from the .net framework. So where you would expect one property name it is actually another. Just means it has a little bit of a learning curve. **Recommendations to others considering DevExpress:** It really does improve performance and development time. Give it a shot.
