**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Designcenter?**

When you use the suite of Siemens products, for example, Teamcenter, Simcenter, etc., NX operates very well as being an all encompassing tool that can interact with other systems seamlessly. It seems as though NX is trying to be the "one stop shop" for designers, with Active Workspace tightly integrated.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter?**

As an administrator, NX is a very heavy application which makes you have to fight to get enough storage space on your machine. For example, it takes up almost 40GB on some installs.

**What problems is Designcenter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NX is solving many problems, including mechanical design, having a strong constraint engine, and the tight integrations with Active Workspace and the Teamcenter BOM system. This is the biggest problem we have, working with BOM structures with a lot of variability, and NX does provide some tools to solve this problem.

**Official Response from Yolanda Dong:**

> Thank you for highlighting the benefits of NX CAD, particularly its strong constraint engine and integrations with Active Workspace and Teamcenter. We acknowledge the issue with the application's large storage footprint and will work towards optimizing its resource usage in future updates.

  ### 10. NX Cad in Automotive industry

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kamlesh M. | Studio Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Designcenter?**

NX often referred as UG by old users, gives best flexibility in designing a part which does not requires a tree as seen in CATIA. Or may be interpreted as for quick concepts it is one of the best CAD software available in market.

The implementaion of 11th hr changes is possible and suitable with synchronous modeling.

nonetheless we are very well aware that, in Automotive industry the product lifecycle management tool (Teamcenter) is of SIEMENS which is parent company for NX as well. This integration gives seamless data modification from JT environment to part environment.

We have observed that CATIA may sometime face dificulty while filleting at value R0.5 which can be easily done in NX.

A very active customer support solution is made available by siemens and may not be required to connect frequently.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter?**

As in automotive industry, we are more aligned towards surface designing which is more flexible in CATIA compared to NX.

The part with parametric history tree is more important to let user modify without affecting later operations done on part which is a little difficult in NX.

The UI/UX may require some improvements.

Due to above limitations I do not use NX frequenlty.

**What problems is Designcenter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

as stated previously in product review, other CAD tools such as CATIA does face dificulties filleting over certain faces(0.5mm) which can be surpassed in NX and surface is filleted.

The JT environment to NX seamless transition is need of hour and is well understood by SIEMENS providing parametric modification through JT tool.

**Official Response from Yolanda Dong:**

> Thank you for sharing your positive experiences with NX CAD, especially regarding its flexibility and the seamless data modification from JT environment to part environment. We understand your concerns about surface designing and parametric history tree, and we will take this into consideration for future enhancements.

**What do you like best about Designcenter?**

It's a very powerful tool that includes a bige variety of functions and addons in comparsion to other Cad Systems.

Because it's so powerful and has so many possibilities it's also very complicated and maybe not my first choice to learn CAD.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter?**

Because it's so powerful and has so many possibilities it's also very complicated and maybe not my first choice to learn CAD.

  ### 17. Low User Friendliness

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin J. | Tooling and Product Design Engineer, Aviation & Aerospace, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Designcenter?**

Positives: Compact file structure, an entire assembly and drawing can be contained within the same file, making it easier to control transfers and storage of designs without file management issues. Not sure what the size limitations on it are.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter?**

User friendliness seems very low. Part of it is that it is VERY different than Solidworks, Creo, and CATIA as far as modeling strategies go. A number of our competitors use it, and we get translations from them and they are generally very hard to work with in any of the the three software I mentioned above. If you need to convert between programs bringing para solids (.x_t files) into Solidworks from NX works best for me. Not a fan of the layer/hide-show method used, very similar to MasterCam though. Also there seems to be a limited amount of searchable information on the internet to help solve issues or figure out ways to tackle modeling.

**Recommendations to others considering Designcenter:**

Implement as many training courses as possible, there isn't much information out there for quick searches compared to other software so those classes will be very important.

**What problems is Designcenter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our biggest advantage from the program is handling 3rd party data and customer data from some key customers. The interface puts people off from going the extra mile to learn the software well enough to see other benefits above our core 3 software.

**Official Response from Yolanda Dong:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with NX CAD. We acknowledge the differences in modeling strategies compared to other software and understand the importance of accessible information for issue resolution. We are committed to enhancing the searchability of resources and providing comprehensive training options.

I like that you can do a lot of different simulations and analyses

**What do you dislike about Designcenter?**

It's not very user friendly. The mating features are extremely touchy and sometimes you have to align the models to get them to accept the mating you want.

**Recommendations to others considering Designcenter:**

It's not very user friendly. It might be beneficial to take a class first.

**What problems is Designcenter solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am doing remediation and looking how components mate together. It can show me simulations, interference, and calculate clearance.

**Official Response from Yolanda Dong:**

> We understand your frustration with the mating features and will share your feedback with our development team for further improvement.
