What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?
What I liked most about Solid edge:
* its practicality, it was very easy to use, convenient
* Lots of different features: freedom to pick. User-friendly interface, although it looked quite outdated at the time -- as long as it's practical, that's not an issue. --> the newer versions already look more up-to-date with today's standards.
* 'command bar' opens up when making a feature, highlighting various modifications you can make.
* Features show up with a tutorial video when hovering over them. Ideal for beginners.
* you can easily navigate your way around the features: they are clearly organized in the ribbon. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?
There were some issues I ran into:
* Errors when generating a surface, i.e. when using Bluesurf. I had to modify a complex and highly-curved surface, but sometimes it would fail to provide me with a geometry. This was annoying.
* There are some practical limitations to consider, for example when I stumbled across the fact that a feature only allowed 3 curves as an input, whereas I really needed four.
Or that sketch relations can not be formed, but when I move them closer towards the desired relation, i.e. making two curves parallel close to each other for the tangency relation, it does work. Sometimes, I had to delete existing relations just to create the same one, just because I slightly moved a curve that caused a problem! There's also the issue that curves sometimes do not want to move the way you want them to. This can be really annoying when you need precision work.
* Parametrization gave errors: the model did not always correctly update & resize when changing the value of a parameter. I had to manually redefine each feature dependent on that parameter, as it would give an error --> very tedious as I had to report a certain output for multiple values for a parameter.
* it wasn't entirely clear to me how to easily combine synchronous and ordered mode -- is that even the purpose? I used ordered mode, as I am more comfortable with that and can easily make changes to existing sketches. If you need to modify your work a lot using sketches and guide-curves, is synchronous even useful?
* Crashes: I learned the hard way to save my work frequently.
^^ Some of these might be solved already, I used a 2021 version of Solid Edge. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
