## Designcenter Solid Edge Reviews
  ### 1. strogn cad software, but it has learning curve

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammet A. | Mechanical Design Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

What I appreciate most about Solid Edge is its robust 3D modeling capabilities. The parametric design tools are highly advanced, allowing me to create complex parts efficiently. The assembly module is particularly impressive - managing large assemblies is seamless and intuitive. The dedicated sheet metal design tools are extremely useful for manufacturing workflows. Additionally, the Siemens integration provides excellent compatibility with PLM systems, making it ideal for enterprise environments.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

The software has a steep learning curve, especially for users transitioning from AutoCAD or other platforms. The interface can feel overwhelming at times, and accessing certain functions isn't always intuitive. The rendering quality lags behind competitors like SolidWorks in terms of photorealistic output. License costs are quite high for smaller companies or individual users. Performance can be sluggish when working with large files, and occasional crashes during complex operations can be frustrating.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solid Edge is solving our complex 3D modeling and assembly design challenges in mechanical engineering projects. It streamlines our product development workflow by providing integrated parametric modeling, assembly management, and manufacturing preparation tools. The software significantly reduces design iteration time and improves collaboration between engineering teams. Its synchronous technology allows us to modify imported models without losing design intent, which saves considerable time when working with supplier components. The sheet metal tools have been particularly beneficial for our manufacturing processes, automatically generating flat patterns and bend calculations.

  ### 2. I need more information about to how use it

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Industrial Automation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

What I liked most about Solid Edge was the accuracy of its simulations. The results feel incredibly close to reality, allowing you to confidently validate designs before manufacturing. Its intuitive interface and advanced tools make the modeling and analysis process efficient and professional.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

The little information there is on how to use it, I don't know if it's because I didn't search too much, but I think it should be in plain sight, apart from the fact that there isn't any way to test the tool in a more or less real environment other than a time-limited test. As a project engineer, sometimes I like to try something for more than a month to make sure it works for me.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest problems Solid Edge addresses is the gap between digital design and real-world performance. Its simulation tools allow me to test stress, motion, and thermal effects on parts and assemblies with impressive accuracy—almost like seeing how the product behaves before it's even built. This reduces costly prototyping and speeds up development. The integration of synchronous technology also streamlines design changes, making it easier to iterate without starting from scratch. Overall, Solid Edge helps me work smarter, faster, and with greater confidence in the final product

  ### 3. There's much better out there

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** peter s. | design engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

I struggle to find many positives with this software, everything seems clunky and all of the buttons are hard to find.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

The full software.
I know it's a matter of opinion but to me the software seems clunky and not very user friendly, the buttes are all hard to find, completely different to somewhere like solidworks!
Drafting on edge is also difficult

**Recommendations to others considering Designcenter Solid Edge:**

I'd reccomend finding alternative software

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working for a contract company we solve multiple problems for multiple companies

  ### 4. Using Solid Edge during Bachelor studies

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gábor P. | Master's Degree Student in Aerospace Engineering, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

The 3D/solid design environment is rather easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

The whole software package is not user friendly especially the 2D drawing environment. Despite the difficulties that every student used Solid Edge (probably this was the cheapest for the university) I changed to SolidWorks after 1 year. The biggest disadvantage is in the software architecture. There were several problems with the student version during installation and the versions are not compatible with each other, can't always recognize older SE or step/stl files.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are no benefits because for simple designs SolidWorks is more user friendly and has no compromises in all environments means for this purpose it is better than SE. And for surface design or more mathematical applications CATIA is either a better choice.

  ### 5. Product Designer

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

I love the new feature and surface modeling tools

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

User interface could use a tweak. I'm used to the solidworks interface. I also like their rendering software a little more.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Design communication throughout my team.

  ### 6. Getting worse instead of better

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

Simple tools for fast creation of models. Simple tools for creating model assemblies.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

Since Siemens bought the software they have been removing functionality gradually making it more difficult to use. Examples: 1. When drafting and in Draw in View mode you can no longer modify your sketch by placing dimensions on the sketch and changing the dimension. 2. When modifying a part inside of an assembly the Update command no longer updates the relationships in the assembly. 3. Can no longer change an 'inches' dimension by adding or subtracting mm's. (units must be in inches). 4. Can no longer save files in ASCII format. I imagine the functionality was taken away so that they can get more people to buy upgrades. Greedy or just incompetent?

**Recommendations to others considering Designcenter Solid Edge:**

Good if you want to pay max price for the highest function module. Check out other software first if max functionality is not needed.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mechanical design problems. Creates needed drawings for manufacture.

  ### 7. Solid Edge Review

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2015

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

Solid edge is very basic and can be picked up quickly. The learning curve is not very steep and thus solid edge is a good way to get into solid modeling. The program is laid out well and icons are easy to understand. Solid edge also provides an effective parts library and revision manager.

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

Solid edge struggles with more complex assemblies and is sometimes prone to crashing. Solid edge is shaky at best when using the more advanced features such as alternate assemblies.

**Recommendations to others considering Designcenter Solid Edge:**

Great program for anyone not looking to create complex assemblies. Solid edge handles complex parts and assemblies well, but struggles with alternate assemblies.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We provide a wide range of products to our customers, with each product line having multiple options. Solid edge helps us manage our parts library and quickly update revisions.

  ### 8. Brief experience using it as a low cost alternative to SolidWorks

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris W. | HPVC Global Chief Judge, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2015

**What do you like best about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

I like the low price point and the simple process to get going (especially when compared to Pro/E)

**What do you dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge?**

Seems to have limited capabilities and low surfacing performance

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Be able to generate and review CAD quickly
