I've been using descript for 3 years now, using it through their changes from primarily audio, to audio and visual. I have used it for audio and visual editing, transcription, personal and professional use. I am a power user of descript. When it works, it's amazing. It's easy to edit, intuitive to use, you can export directly to a number of podcasting sites and editing is very intuitive to use. The transcription software is good (more on that later) and it's so helpful trying to find specific parts of a podcast to create social bites from. That's the good. Support is friendly, quick to respond, and incredibly helpful with their responses... usually. (Again, more on that later). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Descript? As someone who has used it for years on a weekly basis, I can confidently say that Descript is worse than it was 2 years ago. Trying to push more features in, it feels that it has degraded basic functionality, or the user experience was such an afterthought that I'm more often than not, fighting against Descript to edit a show, rather than editing with descript. Transcription in 2021-2022 was top-notch, frequently 90-95% accurate, only tripping up if we said something funny, or a proper name that wasn't as common. Now, it's more like 75% accurate on a good day. Whole minutes aren't being transcribed, laughter is having words being invented and it's all coming down to an infusion of LLM AI to transcribe. Hallucinations of these models are growing more frequent, making features such as removing Ums and Uhs worthless. Using keyboard shortcuts is finnicky and more and more I found they're not working at all. Like pasting in Google Docs, it's frustrating to expect to be able to do basic function like Copy and Paste and not be able to. (Support suggesting hitting an extra 4 buttons to do so is poor UX design). This is worse than what it was 2 years ago and makes it frustrating to work with. Sometimes support can help, until you need escalation. I've had tickets opened since September that support still doesn't know how to fix and it is an everyday occurence of using it. When I clearly mention that something is happening across all instances, devices, and web or desktop application, I'm still being asked for project information, when clearly, that is beyond any project, it is a systemic issue. It's just frustrating to see what I used to love using, what used to make me so happy every time I used it, become so infuriating to use that my workflow and production has slowed by almost half.
