Just because you have well-known characters doesn't mean the game is going to be a hit, it must operate well, be challenging (but winnable), and not depend too much on players just paying to win (those games are very short-lived). Because they are using licensed IP a lot of times, if those contracts expire, the game has to be pulled, and they just haven’t always done that smoothly and transparently. DeNA has made some really fun games, their Marvel Card Game was a particular favorite of mine. They did a Star Wars tower defense game that I enjoyed as well.
