## DbVisualizer Reviews
 ### 1. Streamlined AS400 Development with DbVisualizer

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Swapnil T. | Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2026

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

I like that DbVisualizer is free and easy to use, with multiple features like saving queries and impressive execution speed. I enjoy how stable it is while working with AS400 DB2 and handling large tables smoothly. The autocomplete and query history features are very useful, especially when working with large legacy tables where remembering column names is challenging. I also appreciate being able to export data directly without additional steps, and the setup was quite simple.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

When working with very large queries, the results take time. While it's clean, it looks old compared to the latest tools.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use DbVisualizer for writing complex queries and joins easily, and it simplifies dealing with large tables. It's free and user-friendly, supports all features with fast execution, and offers helpful features like autocomplete and exporting queries, making my work much easier.

 ### 2. Awesome DB product!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martha H. | CTO and VP Technology & Business Intelligence, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2020

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

The basics are all there plus incredibly powerful tools. Setting up or copying connections is incredibly easy. My favorite feature is the editor templates, which have allowed me to automate all the steps in common admin tasks. Relationship diagrams/lists for complex interactions have been extremely helpful. I love being able to type now into a field and get a timestamp. The features for selecting, copying and exporting are very user friendly. Great documentation. DbVis support is top notch! I always get a response in less than 24 hours, and they know their product inside out. Setting up connections are extremely simple, and it is easy to move between different types of databases, integrating scripts. I use it every day. Happy camper.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

Formatting everything in a query after FROM with () and ` characters. I always have to edit/replace because they make it difficult for me to read/edit the query. Same for the DDL. In the data grid, it is somewhat of a pain to have to change the ID column to (null) when you copy a record, but that may be a function of the MySql/MariaDB.

**Recommendations to others considering DbVisualizer:**

Definitely check out the documentation - it is extremely valuable. Do a free trial of the Pro version - totally worth it when you see the powerful tools.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can backup MySql and MariaDB views as views instead of converting to tables, unlike native backups. Being able to backup by type is extremely helpful. Use DBVis for all database admin work, no other product out there is anywhere near as robust.

 ### 3. Quick, Easy Access to Tables in a Complex Environment

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco M. | Executive Director for Educational Effectiveness, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

It makes accessing tables in our complex environment both quick and easy.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

Some of the features are tempting but I have not figured them out yet. Once I do I should be able to take greater advantage of the visual components.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I analyze a great deal of student data but often find different sources within our tables. Using DB visualizer allows me to investigate tables, do quick SQL queries and figure out what elements I need for my larger analyses,

 ### 4. Perfect for Beginners—Intuitive and Easy to Use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

As someone new to coding and SQL, DbVisualizer was easy to get started with locally before connecting to our prod DB. It's straightforward to get started (easy to implement) and there are a good number of "tools" that help if you don't want to do it all in code. For instance managing tables, importing data etc. It's also very easy to understand the details/information about each table etc.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

Lacking in some automcomplete and query support tools. The error messages are helpful, but if there was better autocomplete and suggested resolutions for errors that would save me some time from consulting claude or chatgpt.d

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm on the product side and needed a lightweight way to interact with our data warehouse without going as deep as our engineering team. For me, it was a perfect solution and also worked well for our director of research who I also got set up with it. We wouldn't have such a good understanding of our data if it weren't for DbVisualizer allowing me to get set up easily to access and it's now become an integral part of my workflow.

 ### 5. Connection Grouping and Workspaces

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cary C. | Senior Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

It's extremely easy to use, group db connections, and use the workspace feature.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

Reordering tabs! When I have a lot of tabs open, I'd like to be able reorder them easier. A nice feature in the dropdown list of tabs/open objects would be drag and drop reordering.

Also, coloring/theming is a pain in the butt. I want to *easily* change colors of various UI elements to reflect dev/staging/prod databases. It's not.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to run the DDL & DML on non-productions systems *all* *the* *time*. Also, data research in production systems is invaluable. I use it to monitoring data queued for transfer to partners.

 ### 6. Versatile Database Tool with Intuitive Interface and Robust Data Handling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Photography | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

It has many drivers that interact with a plethora of different database types out of the box. Also the user interface is clean, intuitive and not once do I have the impression that I need an excessive amount of clicks to achieve what I want. Also the various formats for exporting and importing data are robust and error-resistent, also the behavior is stable when using slow internet connections.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

The application performs slower than I am used to, possibly due to the Java-Runtime. Also sometimes the application reports that it is in an unstable state and a restart is recommended, although I do not notice any degradation of performance or apparents errors. Perhaps this would only affect functions, which I am not using at the moment.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Testing specific queries before implementing them in applications
Performance profiling, database optimization
Quick corrections to table data

 ### 7. DbVisualizer is my most used tool at work.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

I find DbVisualizer very easy to connect to and use. I particularly appreciate additional features such as the Compare tool, which I frequently use to examine differences in table schemas or stored procedure schemas. The option to group connections and customize colors, labels, and settings for each environment—whether it's Development, Test, or Production is also very helpful. I regularly use the Export feature and value the convenience of opening exports directly in Excel, as well as the flexibility to save exports in various formats, including SQL, which makes re-importing data quick and straightforward. DbVisualizer has become an essential tool in my daily workflow.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

Nothing major of concern, it's one of the better commercial products I've used.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do a lot of analysis and system support through the DbViz tool. Checking table queue counts, updating data as needed, or researching and troubleshooting.

 ### 8. A reliable and easy-to-use SQL tool for everyday database work.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanyo S. | Principal BI Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

DbVisualizer offers a clean and intuitive interface that makes it easy to connect to different databases without much setup. I appreciate its wide range of supported databases and the ability to visually explore database structures. It’s lightweight yet powerful, perfect for daily SQL querying, schema navigation, and ad hoc reporting. The tool's customization options, like bookmarks and favorites, make repetitive tasks more efficient. It also integrates well into different workflows without heavy resource usage.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

While DbVisualizer is great for basic and intermediate database work, its advanced query editing and visualization features could be more competitive compared to some more specialized tools. Sometimes the performance slows down a bit when dealing with very large result sets. Also, the free version has some useful features locked behind the Pro version, which might be limiting depending on your needs.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DbVisualizer helps streamline database exploration, querying, and quick validations across multiple environments. It simplifies connecting to different databases in a single interface, making it much easier to monitor and validate data during day-to-day operations. It saves time by providing a centralized, lightweight solution without the need for complex setup.

 ### 9. Essential database tool for academic research purpose

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2025

**What do you like best about DbVisualizer?**

DbVisualizer stands out as an exceptional tool for academic research user like myself to work with databases. Its intuitive, supports multiple database types and responsive even with large datasets. The SQL editor enhances productivity with syntax highlighting, the ability to format queries for better readability. The customizable grid view for query results is especially helpful for data analysis, allowing for easy exports to CSV and Excel formats, which is useful when preparing data for publication or further statistical analysis. Clear logs of each step helps greatly in debugging the code.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

The autocompletion feature sometimes annoys the user with additional syntaxes which slows down the productivity a bit but would be a great feature if improved.

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DBVisualizer helps me write SQL codes in a much simpler way and provides me a simple way to connect to my databases.

Easy to understand explain plan, support for all different SQL statements. Seldom used statements are available trough dialogs in DbVisualizer.

**What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?**

First time setup is still a bit confusing. Ping server means ping machine with database server, but it would be much more helpful to ping the database server to validate parameters (or have separate button for this).

**What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing a comprehensive frontend to Mimer SQL.
Perfect for trying out stored procedures, functions etc.
Perfect for analyzing query performance.

**Official Response from Meryem O:**

> Hi there,

Thank you so much for your positive review!

Luckily, “Ping Server” was replaced by the new “Test Connection” function in DbVisualizer 25.2 that does just that! This includes support for SSH connectivity by the way. Check out the new version and tell us what you think.
