This hasn't happened lately. Although the other product was free, the improvements of the DBVisualizer in the Mac environment is enough to justify the costt. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** While I do like the product, there are a few areas in which it could significantly improve: 1) the import table feature is pretty clunky and very picky. Things that could be handled programmatically like dealing with special characters or spaces in field names pulled from the source are a pain. Data type forcing of the source data is also a problem and source of frustration when you are trying to import a table with 40 rows. Would make it easier to not force the data type of the source data and to either ignore the value or omit it when importing if it doesn't adhere to the destination field setting. 2) While minor, the file picker is very dated and unwieldy at least on the mac. 3) It seems to freeze relatively often requiring you to wait 30-90 seconds before you can do anything. This often happens when just opening a new tab regardless of whether that tab is presenting alot or a little data. 4) Any manual data updates are applied very slowly. Deleting 100 records from the data view of a table for example may take 30 seconds, when a script doing the same takes .3 seconds. **Recommendations to others considering DbVisualizer:** DBV is definitely a good option to consider for access, management, and development within various database platforms. **What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have used this interface to build a complete and custom workflow platform. i come from 20 years working with Microsoft SQL Server. While this product isn't at that level, it is much more flexible and reasonable for a small business. ### 22. Hitting the enter key auto selects the first suggestion. This makes creating new lines a pain since you have to escape the prediction before hitting enter. The setting I'm referring to is in Preferences > SQL Commander > Auto Completion > Auto Completion Popup List > Display Automatically. In my IDE you have to arrow down to a suggestion before the enter key will commit. Maybe there's a trick to this that I'm blind to. Other than this hiccup the auto completion feature makes writing a query much faster. **Recommendations to others considering DbVisualizer:** Give the trial version a shot, it's definitely a step up from writing in your shell. **What problems is DbVisualizer solving and how is that benefiting you?** At our company we manage over 600 tables. Having a visual into these tables and their relations is very helpful for me at least as I'm more of a visual programmer. We are often asked to pull custom reports, the "Open Visible as Spreadsheet" feature has been very useful. I'm sure there are a grip of awesome features that I haven't explored yet. It's always fun to find something new that saves time. ### 23. The side bar navigator is fast and easy to use. The commit and rollback buttons are right where you'd expect and it is all really smooth. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** The auto complete feature is really the only problem I have with it. Turning on auto display is terrible as it is always in the way, seeing a show delay is even worse because it adds things to the query you weren't even expecting. For example, the MariaDB driver often runs queries very slowly. It works with the most used databases that are MySQL and PostgreSQL, and also has a profile for each type. I also like that it allows me to configure any JDBC option. The fact that it can access so many types in one interface with a common toolset/interface is very handy; the upfront learning curve is negated a bit by not having to learn several other apps. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** A very seldom crash here and there. I can leave it up for days and sometimes weeks, revisiting every day or so for my needs, and it's steadfast. Some things seem slower than native tools, like pulling up a list of Views, but the rest seems as snappy. It has all database tool required features. It can give schema, ER diagrams. Export and import functionalities work great. Connections can be stored, SSH connections also possible. We can profile the connections with different fonts, colors etc. It also has query builders, execution history features to retrieve previously executed SQLs. It runs on all operating systems so thats an advantage to use the same software even when machine is changed. **What do you dislike about DbVisualizer?** It does all the minimum required works. The free version does not support many cool features like executing multiple sql statements etc. as its licensed version does.
