"Flexible, Customizable LMS with Smooth Integrations and Standout Support"
4/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like that D2L Brightspace has so many resources available to make the experience fit the various needs of different disciplines at the college. Not all of the departments need the same features in an online experience, but D2L does a really good job making sure that their features can cross those "boundaries" and be applicable across with the different functionalities available for group work, discussions, within quizzes, etc. I also appreciate that there is a certain level of "customization" available with the more recent update to the New Content Experience. That has made it much more streamlined and user friendly for our Students (even if faculty aren't quite as keen about the change - but that is just because the buttons moved around in some places). We also utilize a lot of the various partner integrations, so I appreciate that D2L makes it so easy to set those up. We rarely have any performance issues that are based on the D2L side of things for those - more often than not any of the problems with integrations are rooted in the third party provider. And, when those issues do come up, I really like how quickly and thoroughly D2L support looks into the problem. With other software companies I have felt like I wasn't being taken seriously, but I have never felt that way with D2L support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

I dislike that there are so many great new features that are coming out that aren't available to the core license. I also dislike that there are so many features on request in the PIE area that would be beneficial to SO many people but they aren't on the road map because of the heavy focus on AI. Now, I will say that I understand those tendencies. Revenue has to come from somewhere, and they can't just give high level features to everyone, adn, right now, AI is the hot spot for the tech world. I appreciate the answer in today's webinar that the team is at least investigating more on how some of those AI features may be able to be rolled out for the core package. "Highly Efficient for Course Management, Despite Dated Design"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like D2L Brightspace for its clean layout, especially the announcements from my instructor, because I don't have to search for them. I find everything neat and functional, and I appreciate that it notifies me quickly whenever there is a change in grades or assignments. I also enjoy using the Virtual Classroom, preferring it to Zoom or Google Meet because there's less lag. The initial setup was quick, and I got the hang of it in a few days. Overall, it's very comfortable to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

The design of the site looks dated at times, and I don't like how inputting an email doesn't bring up all the options for a name's email immediately / doesn't send to the right person. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Creative ease and helpful Creator+ and H5P Integration"
4.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

Ease of use, uploading content made easy, and the integration of Creator+ and H5P is fantastic! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

Some "nice-to-have's" - ability for groups in setting collaborators in H5P activities as well as an automatic set to share option (both would be a huge timer saver); ability to nest Creator+ elements such as a callouts inside an accordion (we receive a lot of requests for things like this). "Streamlined Learning Management with Robust Support"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I really like how D2L Brightspace centralizes course delivery, communication, and assessment all in one platform, which reduces fragmentation from faculty using separate tools. It's great for providing a consistent student experience across various delivery methods and offers valuable data for student support interventions. The gradebook and assessment tools are a highlight for me; they give instructors real options for making grading expectations transparent to students, which helps in reducing student anxiety and confusion. I'm also pleased with the supportive experience from D2L’s transition team during setup—they were there every step of the way from planning to implementation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

The administrator interface can be inconsistent. Some things are buried under multiple menus, and the path isn't always intuitive. The amount of options in the grade area can be overwhelming for faculty who just want a simple interface to drop grades and go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust Features with Community Engagement, Needs Mobile App Improvements"
4.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like how customer-focused D2L is. They have a product idea exchange where you can submit your ideas and vote on other people's ideas. D2L does actually look at these ideas and I have seen ideas be implemented in the platform. It feels nice to be listened to. They also facilitate a robust user community website and community-focused events. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

I would love it if the mobile app allowed students to submit activities (assignments, discussions, quizzes) or allowed the instructors to author content and grade. There are places where the platform is inconsistent across tools. For example, deleting a grade item is a different workflow from deleting an assignment. It makes it harder to train our instructors on how to use the tool when workflows are different across tools for a similar task. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Improvement of learning"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like the various configurations we have available to organize and customize the courses. I also like the API available for more robust customizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

I don't like the complexity involved in making some simple configurations. It could be more intuitive or have tutorials within the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for LMS Creation, Needs UI Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I really appreciate that D2L Brightspace offers an easy login process. It's also simple to make modifications to the content that students are watching, and it's user-friendly for both students and faculties when they upload content. I find the availability of apps to be a nice feature. Uploading content like videos, video lectures, audio, and quizzes is straightforward, and students can access these easily. The initial setup was great, which was a positive start for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

The UI is quite simple compared to other platforms. They could improve their UI. Also, setting up with the integrated tools is a bit tough for newcomers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Learning Analytics, but Transparency Needs Improvement"
3.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

Some of the biggest upsides to using Brightspace are the opportunities to gather super meaningful learning analytics. From the programmatic perspective, this is incredibly useful to identity patterns in student learning, which can help inform course iterations. When set up strategically, a learning design team can find areas in the content students are struggling with. That information can, in turn, lead to the creation/revision of additional exercises to help future students avoid that struggle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

Some of the least helpful aspects of Brightspace is the way its tools communicate with each other. For some workflows, it feels like the Assignments and Grades tools live on different planets. In order to make the two tools talk efficiently to each other, a person really needs to be SUPER familiar with them. Users new to Brightspace (i.e. a new adjunct) might make assumptions about how these tools talk to each other - which are likely incorrect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Excellent for Encouraging Learners and Tracking Progress"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

The ways that you can encourage learners and track them within the system. The set up and organization of content for learners is so helpful. And the way that learners can move through a course. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

There are times when things take a little extra finessing to get them to link or when changes are made there are multiple ways that each change has to be made this can be frustrating. The ideas in PIE while many are addressed there are some that are critical that have sat for years without any movement in making those improvements. This includes updates with some of the integrations that are used within D2L Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great UI and Easy Vendor Integrations Make Faculty Support Simple"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

From a technical point of view, I appreciate the UI, how easy it is to integrate third-party vendors, and how straightforward it is to support faculty with any technical issues that come up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

On our platform, we’re still using D2L in Classic mode, and I don’t like that all the new features are currently being implemented only in the New Lessons plan. It makes it feel like the Classic content experience has been overlooked and largely forgotten. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
