From an admin point of view, the flexibility in how you can set up the VLE in terms of course organisation and the course layout is very useful. Allowing you to create bespoke brands and layouts for different campuses and or departments.
The platfrom is also very visually appealing and intuitive to learners without being overly clutered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The gradebook can be a little confusing to get used to and a one stop gradebook shop for learners is not available. Currently instructors either have to create a folder with all assessment links or learners have to remember whether the assessment is a quiz, an assignment, or some other 3rd party assessment tool. It would be great to be able to use the learner gradebook view as a place to also take (link to) the assessments as well as view grades and feedback. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Brightspace is user friendly in a special way -- it innovates while staying backward compatible for a reasonable length of time. The interface is open and there's decent context sensible help. Good community for getting help and giving input. I work with it daily both as an instructor and developer and both naitively and with integrated Articulate content. I've worked with many LMS products, in multiple capacities, since 1990s and like Brightspace best. My roles include course developer, instructor, course management coordinator and LMS migration role as functional project manager for SFU's move from WebCT to Canvas. NOTE: the review form doesn't allow for NA or "don't know" in the feature ranking section. So my rankings for some of those categories are 80% guess. Frustrating one can't pass on the things one isn't well versed in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Administration documentation can be hard to find. The community is helpful but searchable docs that understand synonyms or situations / goals would be welcome. Data hub progress is appreciated. Always something one wants that isn't easy to get out of existng choices. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love the options D2L Brightspace provides so that we have the ability to set-up / design the courses with right "feel" and vibe. Students tell me time & time again how they LOVE D2L courses - especially compared to the other platforms they have been exposed to. They look-forward to daily log-ins and new information being posted.
D2L Brightspace incorporates seamlessly with the Interactive Onine Material that students access. This updates the gradebook automatically when students complete work - so it's a WIN / WIN for students AND the Teacher! I love that I can see how often students are logged into which parts of class and for how long, as well!
Students LOVE the reminders that can be sent from the Pulse App and they appreciate the look and feel of the content. They constantly comment about the ease of use and implementation. I can't recommend D2L Brightspace highly enough! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some options only come with the higher-level paid accounts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We are relatively new to using D2L Brightspace, but our team has experience with three other LMS platforms. When we made the decision to adopt Brightspace for the Competency-Based Education courses we were developing, we were a little hesitant to start with a new platform. However, our review of the features of competency-based education revealed that D2L has integrated this approach to teaching and learning into its design. Any concerns we had about adopting Brightspace were erased as soon as we began working with our implementation team. The responsiveness of their support team and their engagement with us as we considered features and LTI to integrate now (and those to save for further along in our program development) made often anticipated concerns and quickly alleviated those that were not anticipated.
The certificate training and the online resources make it an easy-to-use platform for our instructors and learners. Our instructors and mentors rely on the reports daily to support our learners. If an institution is considering developing a competency-based program, I fully endorse D2L Brightspace as the LMS of choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only element that took a little getting used to would be questions about are you using the new option of x feature or the old option of x feature. Sometimes it is not clear to us as brand new users what is new and what is old. But the resources are all there and the support teams are always kind and patient in responding to our inquiries. As a course designer, the flexibility is my favorite part of Brightspace. The D2L community pages have so many great templates and shared resources. I love the options to add tabs and accordians to pages as well as consistent page headers and footers. The checklists are another favorite feature. I have wished for all of these options when using another LMS. As a newbie, I really appreciated the Brightspace guided courses which got me pretty thoroughly acquianted with the platform quickly. There are still advanced features that I haven't mastered yet, but I am having fun learning because most of Brightspace is easy and intuitive to navigate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The area in which I'm hoping to see some additional features added is the reporting. I miss some of easy to generate and customize reports that I have used in another LMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After COVID-19, our small college knew that we needed a new LMS to help us move forward in the higher educational landscape. We looked at several options, but D2L Brightspace was our choice. Every individual we encountered during our search period was friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. They listened to our concerns and our needs, and helped us choose the perfect product for our college. The LAM program has been a great asset to our college, and our LAM has helped us with implementation of several external tools throughout the years. We use our LMS with integrated tools every single day, and the product is easy to use for both faculty and students. I cannot say enough great things about D2L Brightspace! It was definitely the best choice for us! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
In four years I have yet to find anything I dislike about Brightspace! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I'm a teacher with almost 20 years of experience, but this is my first time with Brightspace. I really like how easily is to navigate the interfaz. As a previous user of others LSM, I find Brightspace's design very pretty and intuitive. I had no trouble to design my class and I could (only with the help of tutorials) set up dates, attendance lists, assignments, evaluations, and more.
Also, I love the way everyone at support service keeps in touch with us, letting us know the status of our cases. They, very kindly, make sure the problem is solved. By the way, I find the ASC Support Portal very easy to use to create a case and keep track of the process too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Something that can improve about Brightspace, I think, is the integration of certain encrypted content (forms, videos or presentations) from other pages, which —sometimes— are not compatible.
And, it would be fantastic to be able to have our online classes from the same platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Migrating to Brightspace has been a massive upgrade for our institution's online learning program which has always been heavy on media and interactivity. With Brightspace, we're able to integrate Kaltura for videos and H5P with its vast array of interactive components. D2L has a wonderful support community, an annual conference, in-depth documentation, and a well-organized feature request system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After migrating from a custom-built LMS in which we had direct control of our upgrades, we aren't able to prioritize our institutions needs over D2L's broad customer base. So, feature requests that might be very important to our school might not be a huge priority to many of the other institutions D2L serves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After familiarizing myself with the platform, the practical and intuitive handling of the virtual environment are the things I value most in using D2L Brightspace. In my opinion, it offers many advantages compared to other virtual environments I have used as a student and later as a teacher, among them I highlight the variety and effectiveness of the interaction tools, and the excellent educational resources, which contribute significantly to engaging students by providing a more autonomous and complete learning process. One of the few things I would change in D2L is the way some tools' commands are finalized within the platform, since once the command is saved in certain tools, there is no possibility to undo such a command. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have been using Brightspace in the organization where I work for 1 year, and we have an average of 20,000 users enrolled on the platform. With a high number of users, one of the positive aspects I like most about this system is the way it combines innovation with security. I feel safe within Brightspace because I know my data is protected in every detail of the system while I enjoy the features it offers.
Another positive aspect I really like is the number of tools, resources, and settings the system offers us, ensuring a complete experience.
One more positive point I wanted to highlight is about the interface; it is so intuitive and easy to use, making the user experience truly pleasant and uncomplicated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Up to the present moment, I have not identified any tool that is not useful in D2L Brightspace; all the resources are great and meet my needs. Although some are quite similar, we can extract different results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
