It runs automatically in the background. I set it up once and now I just get (either weekly or monthly) updates about my backups. It is super easy to use and has a simple interface. CrashPlan has been very secure and reliable for most of our users. It's automated backup system is second to none and the administrative console is great for me to help my end users. The initial automated rollout didn't go so well. Some users did not have the service automatically activated for them and this has caused some data loss as a result.
