## CrashPlan SMB Reviews
  ### 1. Reliable and unlimited data retention

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert B. | Partner/ Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It's great for residentials customers needing a significant amount of storage space. Additionally, you are allowed to backup external devices such as thumb drives, disk drives etc. It's our go to for reliable and cost effective backups.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Restores tend to take a while, therefore, don't expect a fast recovery rate. I really wish Crashplan allows a full image backup, not just file based backup, this would take crashplan to the next level with Bare Metal Recovery. The back-end is somewhat confusing to navigate and not straight forward like other vendors.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redundancy, reliability, and cost effective. CrashPlan has always been there when others have failed. One example was a Ransomware recovery, the other vendor had corrupt images of all the backups for over 30 days leaving us stranded, however, when we checked our CrashPlan backups; everything was intact and full backed up; couldn't have been happier to know CrashPlan was doing it's job without the constant backup verifications of other vendors.

  ### 2. Excellent Backup Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Glenn K. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Crashplan is one of the few backup solutions for Mac (we provide nearly 100% Mac based support) that has a comprehensive display panel where we can view all users, devices and organizations. We can also restore files directly to the user, from the panel, which is invaluable. Crashplan is easy to install/uninstall and manage. In the occasion that we have had an issue we have not been able to solve, Crashplan support has been excellent.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Occasionally a user might not be backing up and it may take a bit to troubleshoot. However, there is quite a bit of information in the console to aid diagnostics.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup for Mac endpoints

  ### 3. CrashPlan is reliable

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2025

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

We like CrashPlan as the backup service itself works very well, and as an unlimited file backup, it's a reasonable price for the storage. We've used it for several years now and it has a set it and forget it kind of thing.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The MSP Client Management interface sucks! It is difficult to understand, almost impossible to decipher and it does not seem to integrate with many of the RMM vendors in the Marketplace. The customer technical support however, has been top notch.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Crashplan provides reliable daily backup of all user's data.

  ### 4. The Best Enterprise Cloud Data Backup Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebekah D. | Systems Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2024

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Our institution has deployed Crashplan on every managed device, and it is a required installation. It gives our entire IT department peace of mind that our org data is safely backed up on every device.

There have been numerous times when our users have had a device completely blue screen or crash, and even the most unusual event of a laptop falling out of a suitcase on a runway and being run over by an airplane! If Crashplan had not been installed on those devices, we would not have been able to easily and seamlessly restore the data for lost, damaged or stolen devices.

Additionally, Crashplan also makes it easy for our institution to do device lifecycling, and allows our computer tech team to select specific data and transfer it to the new device in the same location. Prior to crashplan, lifecycles were complicated and data transfer was painful, but Crashplan has helped streamline the process and increased our user's satisfaction with the process, making them more willing to schedule a time to come to IT and get their device lifecycled, knowing all their data will be on the new device in the same exact place they are used to accessing it.

On the administrator side, the dashboard view, cold storage and archive options are great features that allow us to pull data on the status of our fleet.

Customer support has been very responsive, prompt, professional, and great to work with whenever we have questions!

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Our tech team has noticed that when there are updates to Crashplan, endpoint devices take longer than usual connecting, and will not connect until the update is complete, which makes it difficult when they are trying to re-sync data or install crashplan on a new device.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Crashplan provides one of the best data recovery option for our entire fleet of mac and windows devices in our organization.

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

CrashPlan makes it easy to deploy and backup.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Toubleshooting backuo issues can be hard. Logs are not always conclusive of an issue.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing up and managing multiple systems remotely.

  ### 7. Easy to use and cost effective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo A. | Managing Director, Computer & Network Security, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2024

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Their console is user-friendly and straightforward, making navigation simple. Compared to all our other cloud vendors, their cloud backup solution is by far the most cost-effective we’ve used.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Their product needs to expand and add more features like the ability to backup Microsoft 365 and alike.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup solution. Once installed, you don't need to worry about it.

  ### 8. CrashPlan is the gold standard for cloud backup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrien B. | Mac Systems Administrator II, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2024

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

CrashPlan is the gold standard for cloud backup.
It can be deployed silently to all my endpoints, is very easy to use (both the app and the web admin console).
Their support is great at identifying problems, patterns and resolve issues quickly.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The documentation hub can be centralized and cleaned up, making items even easier to find and better organized. Not a barrier at all; you can find the info if you know what you're looking for, this is just a nod to an efficiency opportunity.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I was hired at this organization everyone managed their own time machine local backups with their own hardware. The external hard drives would eventually fail, or users wouldn't plug them in and complete timely backups. Crashplan solves both concerns. Timely backups that are automatic without any additional overhead or cost of hardware.

  ### 9. Best way to recover data

I'd like to see more customizable backup reports from the administrative console.

It doesn't have the features of more robus backup tools.

  ### 12. CrashPlan has been a Life Saver

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott O. | Executive Director of Network Applications and Security at Maryville University of Saint Louis, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

CrashPlan has given our organization the piece of mind that our data is being backed up. As much as we try to have individuals use cloud or network sites to store their work documents they still will store items locally.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Sometimes there are issues when a person is disabled being able to get back into the backup data set for that user. But we have been able to get around it each tim.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CrashPlan allows us to back up both PC's and Macs to makes sure all files are being captured. Very easy to roll out the software and get successful backups. The Legal Hold option is a great feature that has helped several times.

  ### 13. We love CrashPlan

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

The web console UI is great and easy to use, and my users think it's magic when I restore a lost/deleted file directly to their device. Administrating the CrashPlan platform was been a breeze. Customer support has been prompt and very helpful in my experience. When we first deployed (onsite hosted) CrashPlan, I was still a newbie in IT and one of their techs patiently walked me through creating my firewall objects & rules to get the service running.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The pricing increased again this year, but that's business.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't use it often, but when we do need it (file recovery, for example) my users are so appreciative. It also reassures management that backups are a necessary cost and absolutely worth it.

  ### 14. A Flexible and Reliable Data Backup Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tal T. | Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

One of the standout features of CrashPlan by Code42 is its simplicity. From the installation process to regular updates, everything is straightforward and user-friendly. We particularly appreciate the flexibility it offers with multiple backup sets and different intervals. This allows us to customize our backup strategy based on the importance of our data, ensuring critical files are backed up frequently while optimizing storage usage. CrashPlan's simplicity and flexibility make it a top choice for our data backup needs.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

While CrashPlan excels in efficiently recovering files, one area that could be improved is the actual download speed during the recovery process. When dealing with large files or in urgent recovery situations, faster download speeds would be beneficial. Additionally, CrashPlan's limited support for older Windows versions may pose compatibility challenges for users with outdated hardware or operating systems. Lastly, the administration dashboard, while functional, could benefit from a design refresh to enhance the user interface and make it more visually appealing.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CrashPlan effectively solves the problem of data loss and provides peace of mind for users. By utilizing CrashPlan's backup capabilities, we can securely store our important files and folders on remote servers or other storage devices. This protects us against potential data loss due to hardware failures, accidental deletions, or other unforeseen events. The ability to create multiple backup sets with different intervals ensures that our critical data is backed up regularly while allowing us to allocate resources efficiently. CrashPlan's reliable and efficient backup solution benefits us by minimizing the risk of data loss and facilitating quick recovery when needed.

  ### 15. Medium size business user

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Warner M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

The protection from ransomware was our main reason for using. We already used Microsoft onedrive for storage. But needed something to recover in case a computer was compromised. The fact that users can recover their own files is also a plus.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

If I move a computer from one user to another it is not real easy to change the code42 user for that machine.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Protection from ransomware.

  ### 16. A very powerful backup solution for our organization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Crashplan has been an essential part of our business needs by allowing for a whole workstation backup, rather than just a sub-set of folders which MS OneDrive allows.
Crashplan automatically ties our uses via their OKTA login to make management a lot more streamlined.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Initial configuration was a little complicated and required assistance from Crashplan support, but they have been extremely helpful in getting us properly setup.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've been able to recover files from users who departed our company, as well as dated versions of files from an earlier date.

  ### 17. Set it and forget it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I never have to touch it unless I want to restore something, and it has never failed me. CrashPlan emails me regularly to demonstrate the work it's doing.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The admin console could use some work, but I'm micro-griping.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Employees can keep backups flowing regardless of what network they are on, and it doesn't use any datacenter resources.

  ### 18. The service has always been there for us when we needed it.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Very simple to recover files both through web console and desktop app.
Service is fantastic.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Does not work on older operating systems but not really an issue.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows unlimited versioning which helps greatly in case of file corruption.

  ### 19. 3 reasons to switch to iDrive

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Henk-Jan B. | bestuurslid, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2022

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Once installed it works in the background

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

it isn't intuitive: you can't see what is ready and what must be done

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The restore option is much better then at the start: now you can restore files and maps, at the beginning only files

  ### 20. CrashPlan End User Backup

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin T. | Director, Sales, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2022

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

The non obsrusive way that it works in the background.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The way retention is configured. Retention is sometimes confusing to configure.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Good endpoints backup that never fails.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of backup of my endpoint data onsite and offsite.

  ### 21. Code42 Is Super Slow. For 20 Gigs of data, on 400mbps Upload, 5 days. Abundance of CPU and Ram.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon T. B. | Web and Application Security Advisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

The potential of the offering, but not the offering itself .The ability to run on Linux.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Super slow. Maybe it's not throttled for bandwidth, but there are other things that could be throttled. There is no way that on a 400mbps on average internet connection speed, that it's going to take 5 days to upload 20 Gigs of data. This service might give you unlimited, but at what expense. How long does it take to upload your machine is the drawback. If you have large files. This might be a problem for many. I'm not sure. But this will most likely not work in our use case. Just be forwarned. This service is slow. Super slow. Oh, I'm on dual Wan systems. Copper and Fiber. I've disabled redundancy to make sure that this was valid for both drops, and not just a latency issue. It's slow for both. So there is something that is being drawn back, or they are fitting so many people through one pipe that there is no way to get beyond the demand for those specific draws of bandwidth.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

If you have a few gigs of data and can wait days to upload it' s fine.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits. Well. If it were faster, would be backup. But where I need to backup 70 Gigs every three days. This application is most likely not going to foot that bill.

  ### 22. A must have for MacOSX backups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janet B. | Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I'm not technical at all and I was able to use it, it started with my dog my laptop, and a soda glass in a bad place, a few moments later my keyboard was full of soda, and fast forward a few hours and a call to my company technical support a laptop replacement was scheduled, because of the current pandemic I was getting a new laptop and responsible to set it up myself with help by phone of a technician instead of going to the office and ask for help, it took us 1 hour to set up the new laptop and it was running like the old one minus the soda in a few hours after the sync of my old laptop backup downloaded to the new one.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Didn't knew about it until I needed it and worked perfect 10/10 for me.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

A must-have in case your computer suffers an accident

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing up and restoring backups between computers.

  ### 23. An invaluable tool for any worker on the road

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roxie G. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Before the covid hit the world I used to be more at customer sites than on the office and I'm not the most careful person in this world so I have had a few issues with my work laptops including a cracked screen an a keyboard failure and several of my colleagues have had their laptops stolen, luckily for all of us it is as simple as making sure Code42 runs on the background every day so, at most, we can lose a day worth of work done when we receive a replacement laptop.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I don't know if it is the program or my employer decision, but It only runs when connected to the VPN, and after a hard day of work on a customer site and tired, connecting the laptop to the VPN at the hotel is a bigger task than it seems on theory, since the backups are encrypted anyway that extra layer of security is a bit excessive and would be great if it could be turned off.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Back your data like you think your computer is going to fail tomorrow, maybe some day you will be right about that.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing up my machine religiously and when needed swapping my data to another machine.

  ### 24. Cool backup tool to have in your PC for any unexpected situation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Myron H. | Network Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I'm lucky that I have not needed to use this tool yet, but in my team 4/21 already needed to use it and a poor soul needed to use it twice and it is just nice to know that if you have an issue with your laptop like having it stolen or you drop a soda on it you have a way to recover 99% of your data by switching devices to a new one.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

It is 100% guaranteed to work if you do a restore to a new machine with the same OS and same hardware configuration, one of my coworkers had the great idea to do an update to the system before doing the restore, and it caused several errors so it is a good idea to have the machine in a state where your configs and files can be restored verbatim

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Just let the software run as the default

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I know it is a good tool to restore a data backup if my laptop has an issue and I need a new one

  ### 25. Peace of mind for me, my boss and the company

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vishnu D. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I'm not on the road as often as before because the whole world is at a halt now but when I use to manage the account at customer premises most of my work was done locally on my machine and every day I had the habit to check outlook and reply emails and without me knowing backing up all my data to the company cloud. I had an incident: My pc was stolen since I left it in the back of the car while we were eating and the window got broken, bad as it is I was far more worried about the data than the computer, everything was encrypted but I thought I lost a lot of valuable information. Luckily for me, I was not the first in the team who got a bad experience like that so my boss checked with the internal IT team and I got a new machine with all my data in just 2 days.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I love this software, I didn't knew I had it until I needed it and it worked so 10/10 all around.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Let it run, don't disable it, one day it might save you.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing my data and if needed restoring it.

  ### 26. If you want customer support, good luck!

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It is inexpensive compared to other backup services.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I've got about 120 devices backing up, and pay about $1100 / month for the service. Recently, I get a notice or two almost every day that one of the devices hasn't backed up. I have to remote into the system after contacting the customer, deauthorize the device, then reconnect it. Wasting about 20-30 minutes a day really interferes with business. I've sent numerous emails to support and they NEVER respond. This is a pretty critical issue when a backup doesn't work and you have to try to correct the problem DAILY.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When it works, it does a great job. My complaint is the TOTAL LACK OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT!

  ### 27. Great backup tool, works well

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It helps me keep my essential work documents backed up in case something happens to my laptop

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I've had some connection issues previously, but I worked with our IT department to solve them.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I know that some of my colleagues have had issues with lost documents.

  ### 28. I really love Code42, it saved all my data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel H. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It works as expected, It runs my backups weekly and my data is safe, hoping that I will never need it, but it did happen once in the San Francisco area that some coworkers and I decided to go dine, it was quite late since we really needed to finish some things and decided to go to a Dennis and left the car below a camera, we neglected to grab our backpacks with us and... the crystal got broken and our backpacks included our laptops gone. It was a hard blow to all of us, but luckily after we got a replacement everything except the last day was backed up and ready to restore, and when the restore was done everything worked as on my old laptop.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I totally get why the backups are only done while inside the VPN, but it would be even more amazing if no VPN was needed for backups

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Don't skip the backups

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing up my data, hoping that I never need to restore my data to a new laptop again.

  ### 29. Keeps a backup of my files secure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Norma N. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I had never had(yet) a hard drive failure or a laptop stolen, but it is sadly relatively common that our engineers that go onsite have the computer stolen or broken for some reason and all the works files can be easily restored to a new machine relatively quickly and painless, also when I have done a computer refresh from a Lenovo machine to another one I just grab the backup from Code 42.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I always forget the name Code 42, for me, CrashPlan would be easier to remember and a lot more intuitive. I don't get why they decided to change to a harder to remember the name but it works exactly the same. No issues in the functionality.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Don't postpone the backup, you don't know when your computer may fail.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes good backups and it is easy to restore them

  ### 30. Almost impossible to cancel

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I did NOT like this product.
Nothing more to add.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

On initial install, you have to login.
The default (suggested) high security password was saved in my browser, so it was unavailable from the Code42 app
Clicking Forgot password, did not work
I had to change the password via browser
Then I had to uninstall and then reinstall the app, to get back to the same password prompt
Then it did not do a scan rto recover deleted files
So I wanted to cancel my free trial
It made it almost impossible to cancel.
Even now, I don't know if it is cancelled.
Don't risk it!

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

  ### 31. Backs up all my data in a timely way

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucian J. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I have a lot of important files in my computer that would give me almost a heart attack if I lost them and would make my team and my boss really unhappy at least for a few days, that's why I check all my backups are up to date every night. It just gives me a peace of mind knowing I can't really lose my data.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I totally understand the need for a secure connection but since all data goes thru the company VPN to reach the backup servers that means a slower backup, not a big deal, still very fast but I like using 100% of my 1GBps Google Fiber whenever possible.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Don't forget to backup your data

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backups and more backups, I have not needed to restore anything yet but I know it is ready for whenever I need it.

  ### 32. Fantastic cloud backup solution.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phillip W. | Network Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Crashplan provides ease of setup. The price is right at $10/device backed up. The different backup options and granularity such as frequency and version changes, file exclusions, local backups, etc.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I really haven't found anything I dislike about it yet. I haven't had to do a full restore yet to gauge how fast or slow it might be.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

It's a great backup service. I believe they offer a free trial period, and at $10 per device, it won't break the bank.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Local backups are fast and great to have, but if a natural disaster were to happen, it's pivotal to have an off-site cloud backup solution that can be accessed from anywhere. Crashplan allows me to have peace of mind.

  ### 33. Crashplan is my go to backup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt D. | consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Ease of installation and automation of backups

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Interface can be confusing for some- Not intuative for most

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complete backups nightly or hourly -recovered many lost files due to hard drive crashes

  ### 34. Very Good software for backups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emelie C. | Network Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I didn't think a lot about this software until I needed it. Since I have been working from home because of the pandemic I have gotten used to eating in front of my laptop. This Monday while checking mails I dropped a drink in my keyboard and thought that my computer was going to die, luckily for me, it didn't but It was nice to see that a full backup was in the secured cloud just in case I needed to switch computers.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The GUI is kind of slow, it took almost a full minute to load before I could log in and use it, very minor issue but still there.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

It does not really matter what you are using for backup, but having a backup just in case is always important.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So far knowing that I have all my work data secure in the cloud, I'm probably going to use it on my next computer refresh or if my computer decides to die suddenly.

  ### 35. Cloud back up to prevent big data losses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bronius S. | UX/UI Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It has unlimited storage this means that the customer does not have to worry about having a tight space per month to perform all the backup tasks they want. It has a cloud backup support available 24/7 allowing it to be used in the event of a real emergency. It is a very reliable software, everything that promises it gives to perfection being this of complete importance given the nature of its functions

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

It is necessary to have a dedicated bandwidth to carry out the backups or at least have a very fast connection so that this process was carried out in the most efficient and fast way possible without affecting the performance of the daily activities carried out by your company. Memory handling can be improved to take up much less space, it's a matter of resource efficiency that is needed in any software no matter what it's used for.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

A software similar to this is Kount, which claims to be a solution for fraud detection and ransomware attacks. One of the differences that both applications have is that Kount does not offer a free trial so it is necessary to pay for its fee to use its functions, on the other hand Code42 if it offers this option which is quite complete even providing some advanced features within that trial. Both have pretty good customer support, with agents who fully understand the software and are able to offer you useful solutions and suggestions to your problems.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company is something small so having a backup of our activities and data is of the utmost importance as well as being able to afford a software that does this type of work without leaving our budget is just what Code42 has done for us, take care of our data as well as stay within the budget that we have what has been of extreme help to have found this tool so we're really grateful.

  ### 36. Basic SMB backup at a reasonable price

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patrick P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Code42 CrashPlan Small Business offers continuous, unlimited backup for servers and workstations at a bargain basement price ($10/device/mo). The backup service is reliable and the interface is relatively simple to use. Configurable version retention and retains backups of deleted files.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

The backup application is not database-aware, so you will need to use another backup solution (built-in or otherwise) to dump any databases to static files for Crashplan to backup. Restores can be slooooow, but par for the course for this level of cloud backup service (beats the pants off of Carbonite's restore speed). *No NAS clients*! The entire company structure is cryptic and confusing. First it was Crashplan, then they canned the consumer product and the original small business product and the company and backup product was renamed Code42, now the company and a different, overarching product are called Code42 and the backup solution is Code42 Crashplan for Small Business.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

First, evaluate if you really need a true Disaster Recovery product. Most likely you do. Code42 Crashplan is *not* a DR product. It's great for replacing the occasional accidentally deleted file, but if you lose an entire server, it's not going to get you back up and running. It might be part of the process, but it won't handle the entire ordeal.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Code42 Crashplan for clients with basic Windows fileservers, or several computers with no servers whatsoever. It hasn't failed us yet for restoring the occasional "oops! I deleted this file, can you get it back?"

  ### 37. Backs up background computer files without having to pick up one finger

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George C. | Marketing Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

A software that prevents future errors, such as certain data failure related to employee resignation this and other internal information leakage. This allows us to diagnosis the level of basic direct supervisor by automatically monitoring every computer and/or nube that lets us identify the excessive usage with USB operating systems among others.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Some features, along with purifying outdated documents, take a bit more time to suss out, partly because the times you need to accomplish these will be many other months between.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Consider going cloud-wide. We have gone hybrid. Believing the upgrades and functionality that were introduced now should have allowed us go cloud first.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup copies of database system with in cloud, shielded with maximum security, allowing us to access those same emails quickly after performing various tasks on our servers, without affecting the maintenance operations.

  ### 38. Profitable and practical approach for file backups

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bayasgalan Y. | Senior Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

A program which avoids potential errors, such as data loss due to departure of the employee and other internal data leaks. This helps us to instantly diagnose the lack of personal data by automatically tracking any device and/or the nube that helps us to recognise, among others, the irregular use of USB web browsers.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Company documentation requires highly automated e-mail correspondence, but contact with consumers also reveals that backups are never done. This tends to alert users to the fact that their data are not stable. This is important to enhance the efficiency of this correspondence. Latest upgrades for Crashplan cloud customers are automatic, and in situations where the upgrade crashed, the upgrade was quite difficult. I was too late to satisfy those accounts.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

In order to keep their data secure through a easy and intuitive program, which has an efficient technological service and a price fair because of the value of apps, it is recommended for every organization to keep their data safe.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single backup. We only use this for notebook and server backups. Our workers fly across the globe regularly and we need a safe way to ensure that backups are carried out wherever they are. When back-ups have not been done, we (and the employee) are informed on a daily basis to keep us updated who is at risk of not getting an updated backup.

  ### 39. Best for Backup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Taking backup in back-end and saving my data on cloud, also i scheduled weekly full backup on clouds.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I am not sure what is the dislike point here, i like all feature.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

yes I Recommendations to everyone.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's solving for backup of my system on clouds.

  ### 40. Unreliable and Unpleasant

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2020

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

The logo is nice. The logo is nice. The logo is nice. The logo is nice.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

After paying for the service for 3.5 years, I finally needed to access a lost file. Guess what! Code 42 had not backed it up and a rude agent used mumbo jumbo to explain and the ifs ands and buts of the back up service. Then he assigned me the task of diagnosing why the file wasn't backed up.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have Code 42 to back up my files. The benefit would be if Code 42 actually did the back up in a reliable manner

  ### 41. Data loss prevention.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sebastian B. | Strategy Consultant, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

A software that prevents us from possible accidents, such as loss of data as a result of employee departure and among other internal data leaks. It offers us the immediate detection of the loss of data, also the immediate solution to this situation, by means of an automatic monitoring in each of the computers and / or cloud which facilitates the identification of the unusual use of USB web browsers among others.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Being a system that is based on the identification of situations that may cause data loss, it is dedicated to limiting all actions that can be performed through a computer or the cloud, so the realization of a daily workday can be converted a bit tedious because you don't have free access to all the functionalities as it normally would be.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

It is advisable for any company that is interested in keeping their data safe through a simple and intuitive application, which has an efficient technical service and its price is quite reasonable for the importance of the need that, as software, it solves.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All our users have an updated backup, and with the help of Code42 the update of users on new computers is simplified, in addition we can configure automatic notifications that comply with informing when a backup has not been completed. Your updates are not complex and automated.

  ### 42. Backup Sensitive Information Effectively

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angel M. | IT Support Specialist, Information Technology and Services

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019

  ### 43. Not what it used to be

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Once it is set up, it chugs away in the background. It knows to pause if your battery drops below a threshold. It is possible to have it not backup on certain networks, e.g., airplane WiFi.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

When I needed it, it hadn't worked. The downside of setting up the software and having it chug away, is that I thought it was working, but it was not. My website development software apparently stores my sire in the Application Support directory on the Mac. By default, CrashPlan didn't pick up on that and excluded it even though nothing is excluded in the setup. So when an Apple "update" trashes the OS, CrashPlan was not able to restore my work.

CrashPlan has increased in price and decreased in speed over the last 18 months. If it had worked, it may have been worth it, but the only reason to back up is to restore, and it didn't.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Look elsewhere. It is too expensive and no longer reliable.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One thing about autocorrect, and that is sometimes it is even right. "CrapPlan" seemed like a good summary. The problem I was solving was the loss of data and the risk of a loss of my on-site backups. It failed to protect me.

  ### 44. Only getting worse

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juergen S. | N/A, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

It is kind of setup and forget, hope for the best. The setup is of a backup is easy. Restoring single files is painless. But that is where the positive ends. It is cross platform.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

I have been using CrashPlan since ever Mozy Backup went downhill. And it hasn't been a great experience. As a developer I have a constant need that things are backed up, and CrashPlan does that... at a price. First the dollar price is no longer competitive. The memory and CPU price are huge. I've seen CrashPlan use 8+gb of memory, and it wanted more. It is no longer able to backup files larger than 1tb. Pruning old versions every few weeks takes... a week. 3 of my 5 backup schedules do not trigger automatically as they should. Backup and restore speeds are slow, not able to use more than 10% of my network speed. Just now they stop allowing backups of VM's... really, my 2gb VM file is going to kill you?

Support, well, not so helpful. Over they years I had like 5 support requests. I'm not convinced they are helpful. While you always get canned answers and link. My problem of not being able to backup large files or using the scheduler are unsolved. I gave up asking and explaining.

And, no more support for Win 2008 Server soon...

Little things, lots of them, none are good.

Just stay away from it.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

I'd look at other solutions before considering CrashPlan. I'll be heading to Backblaze when my pre-paid term ends.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I hope they have a secure backup, but I'm not sure if a restore would be fast enough.

  ### 45. Does the backup and gives you peace of mind.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heath C. | Network consulting engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

When I was in college losing my PC was the end of the world because of the price of the hardware and the data was not that of a big deal, now that I'm working tables have turned. I can afford to lose my MacBook Pro, for sure I will be slightly annoyed, but losing my data with days or weeks of work will really freak me out, with Code42 running daily I'm sure it won't happen, worst case is that I'll lose the data of one day.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Nothing to dislike, it makes the backup without annoying or disturbing your work.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Don't pause the backup if you care about your data as I do.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup of my machines and if needed restore the status in a new hardware.

  ### 46. Perfect software except it is slow if constantly dealing with large files

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel J. | Mr, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

- Pretty straight forward to setup and use
- Deduplication for local and cloud backup taking the least amount of space required
- Fast recovery from local and cloud backups
- Backups can be kept forever
- Pricing

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

- Slow backups - if you're constantly producing new large files, this software will have a hard time keeping up. I get up to 8 Mbps upload on a 20 Mbps connection (though it can drop to under 4 Mbps (megabits) a lot of the time) and around 3 MBps (megabytes) to a local hard drive

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

-This is the perfect solution if you are dealing with small to medium amounts of data, not so much if you are producing large amounts of new data due to the slow nature of backing up
- When producing local backups and you want multiple copies, don't create a new destination and let the software do it. Backup to one and then use replication software to copy the backup to another disk, way faster!

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup data size - the problem with a lot of cheaper lower end backup software if that it does not support deduplication. They generally produce a full backup and then either differential or incremental backups to the point where another full backup down the track is required, thus requiring a destination needing at least twice the size of the original data, not very practical!

This software deduplicates and only backs up what is new unique data requiring the least amount of space

  ### 47. easy to use

Code42 is an amazing app you can download and save all of your work that you use its an awesome way to back up everything and not have to worry if you will loose your stuff what i like is that it backup automatically i absolutely love this app

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

at times it takes a while to load and to save everything and this seems make your computer slow

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving to be able to save all my documents and not worry once my computer gets reimaged

  ### 48. Works pretty seamlessly behind the scenes for peace of mind online backups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

Once set up it just runs quietly in the background with no apparent effect on the performance of my computer. I don;t have to think about manually backing up.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

You have to keep up to date with the latest Mac operating system for it to work. The initial back up can also be very slow.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Its an affordable option for small to medium size business and sole traders to give them peace of mind for all their data backups and recovery.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I now have an offsite back up of my computer in its entirety which I can access remotely if required. Its easy to set up and use.

  ### 49. Good Product. Does Good Work With Backup And Restore. The Administration Is User-Friendly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

The user license distribution is great and back and restore is easy.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

Licensing should be transparent and customer support team should be easy to contact.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

If you are looking for a product just for backup/restore then you should go for it.

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup and retention. Disaster recovery and Business Continuity

  ### 50. Backups my computer without annoying me.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Albert C. | Network Security Engineer , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2019

**What do you like best about CrashPlan SMB?**

I don't even notice is there but I do check from time to time that is working just in case. You can setup the hours you want your machine backed up and set some conditions so it does not interfere with your work, after I did this I only open it from time to time to make sure it's still working and it is.

**What do you dislike about CrashPlan SMB?**

You have to configure the hours and conditions it does not come by default, the only thing that comes by default is that it stops the backup if the battery is low.

**Recommendations to others considering CrashPlan SMB:**

Configure rules so it only backs up when you are not using the PC

**What problems is CrashPlan SMB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backing up my computer in case I ever lost it.
