CPA Relay is web-based practice management software built for small US CPA and accounting firms, from solo practitioners up to 15 staff seats. It runs the work around the return while firms keep their existing tax software (Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, ProConnect, Axcess) and general ledger (QuickBooks Online, Xero). Firms track every engagement, including 1040s, business returns, bookkeeping, payroll and advisory work, through six clear stages with one-click annual roll-forward. A firm-wide "What's Outstanding" board shows every open to-do, pending signature, unanswered client message and unpaid invoice in one list. Clients get a single portal login across all their households and business entities, with a clear checklist of what the firm needs from them. Firms send engagement letters, Section 7216 consents and Form 8878/8879 e-file authorizations for e-signature from 53 built-in templates, with separate verification for spouses who share an email address and tamper-evident audit certificates. Time tracking, online proposals, recurring invoices and direct Stripe payments (ACH, card, Cash App Pay, auto-pay) turn hours into paid invoices without retyping. Client logins are unlimited and free.
