Count is always my go-to tool in my day-to-day analytics work. It makes it super easy to explore our datasets, to be able to split off different lines of investigation, and really quickly build up a POC that is stakeholder ready.

It's also an excellent learning & collaboration tool - due to the open nature of the project setup, analysts are starting to browse the work of their peers, learn about datasets they don't usually work with, pick up code tips and tricks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As the tool is still pretty young, it's functionality is growing all the time and it can be hard to keep track of all the smaller changes in particular. Something that wasn't an option a month or two ago now is, and there's nothing more frustrating than finding out the thing you've been bending over backwards to find a workaround for is now just available through a setting switch or something.. The canvas layout lends itself really well to data exploration and 'deep diving'

The ability to break SQL script into its individual CTEs makes model debugging very quick

Ability to combine SQL and Python seamlessly is great for when you need to iterate over a table (and SQL just doesn't cut it)

It allows you to put all of your insights in one place. Alongside the code, you can have your charts, annotations to explain things better, and screenshots or other images that can build depth of context. We integrated Count mid-last year and have been reaping a multitude of benefits from the product, including:

- More flexibility and greater efficiency in generating insights and recommendations for the business.

- Product development cycle is shortened due to speed from modeling data to EDA to insights to action and change.

- More dynamic visualisation methods, not stuck to out-of-the-box BI tool limitations; able to insert other types of visuals very easily, such as screenshots and other relevant images that help stakeholders understand the data.

- Super easy set up with help from the Count team; intuitive to use with little need to upskill.

- Very responsive customer service team that's listening to users and customers in a very involved and engaged way; Count has created a community of Data Leaders which has been immensely helpful for strategic impact of data and the team.

- Ability to combine SQL with Python on one canvas has allowed the team to be more flexible with their approach to solutioning.

- Integration of DuckDB makes data processing and computation so much cheaper in comparison to query-heavy BI tools like Looker, both in terms of caching and having greater control over your costs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

- Some functionalities such as the semantic layer took a while to build and the learning curve feels (emphasis on feels) difficult for the team to uptake

- As a result, ease of out-of-the-box dashboarding has been a bit harder to standup in Count, though we're making moves in this direction.

Count offers a great balance between flexibility and functionality. I really appreciate its ability to connect directly to our databases and work seamlessly with DuckDB. It’s particularly useful that SQL queries can be written and adjusted directly within the platform, while also allowing for data visualization in the same environment.

The recent addition that allows users to navigate directly to a specific area in the canvas via the sidebar has been a great improvement. It’s made navigation much easier and is helping lower the barrier for stakeholder adoption.

Another standout is the Count team itself—they’ve been responsive, helpful, and genuinely open to feedback. Their proactive approach to improvement and quick support responses have been a big plus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The user interface could use some refinement—it feels a bit cluttered, and certain features aren’t where I would intuitively expect them to be, which makes navigation challenging at times. This often leads us to consult the documentation, which unfortunately is somewhat limited. While many things are possible in Count, we’ve had to reach out to support frequently simply because the documentation doesn’t provide enough guidance.

Additionally, not everything we want to do is currently supported by the tool, which can create limitations for more advanced use cases. While the team is receptive to feedback, there are still some functional gaps to be aware of. For now, this means Count can’t fully replace a more "complete" BI tool in our stack—it serves better as a complementary tool rather than a standalone solution. We are currently in the middle of refactoring and enhancing part of our product. Count’s canvas allows me to gather, in one place, all the key elements: business requirements, a technical schema of the current state (including known problem areas), and the structure of the underlying tables pulled directly from the database.

Thanks to that, we were able to run a highly productive meeting — focused on real data examples rather than abstract or theoretical discussions. Count helped align business and technical perspectives from the start.

As someone who used to build visuals via LookML, it took me a bit of time to adjust to Count’s approach to building visualizations. Understanding exactly how the visualization logic works wasn’t immediate. However, it was definitely worth the effort, and once I got the hang of it, the flexibility became clear. The thing I like most about Count is the canvas - a blank board where I can program, design visuals, take notes, collect feedback, add comments about strange behaviour in the data. All in one place! I love that I can be creative but at the same time structured.

Count could improve by adding more small features but that are not really that small, they would save me a lot of time and energy and allow me to spend time on more important things. One example is to have a quick way to add a summary column/row to a pivot table.

If there’s one piece of software that defines how we work as a business, it’s Count. Coming from a finance background, implementing it in a high-growth tech environment felt like a bold step—but it quickly became a no-brainer. It’s incredibly intuitive and, most importantly, it’s something people enjoy using. While it takes a bit of time for the business to fully adapt, the benefits are clear and compelling from day one. Count’s flexibility is both its greatest strength and its occasional weakness. In a fast-scaling business, we sometimes build analysis quickly and informally—which Count is perfect for. But this can also lead to stakeholders feeling overwhelmed by too many ad-hoc views or dashboards. When those quick wins become operationally critical, we’ve occasionally run into performance hiccups (e.g., slower load times).
