I use CosmoLex for accounting and docketing software, file tracking, and administrative works. I really like the built-in reports because they are very easy to access and understand, making firm reviews much easier since all of the information is in the same place. The matter creation feature is beneficial because it keeps all the information in one place. I find that more accounting reports would be nice, like billing summaries and general ledgers for individual files. Also, a more accurate time keeper reporting would be beneficial. A more accurate unbilled balance would also be nice—sometimes if there are a lot of dockets/disbursements in a file, the unbilled balance at the top of the matter will give a number, but when you go to generate the invoice, the number is different. It doesn't happen often, but it seems the unbilled balance calculates HST on the total while invoices calculate HST on individual lines, which sometimes gives different amounts. We switched from PC Law to Cosmolex. We paid Cosmolex to transfer our data and books from PC Law. We have a bookkeeper and an accounting firm since the inception of our firm. There were no complaints from Cosmolex when transferring our data. After the first tax year, our accountant noticed serious deficiencies in the data and they had to spend considerable time rebuilding our books which cost us an extra $4000 in accounting fees. We complained to Cosmolex but took no responsibility and said our books were problematic to begin with and they would not compensate us. We switched to Clio thereafter.
