There are of course pieces of this system that do not translate to everyday life, however, the interface does for sure mimic commonly used interfaces and makes it very user-friendly. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** Accepting payments is possibly the most difficult and frustrating thing with this system. It is not intuitive. It takes a good amount of thinking, writing down the steps and remembering how to do it. If you accept credit card payments via phone rarely, it definitely takes a minute to jog your memory to understand how to do it. Simple once you remember how, but again it's not an intuitive way of accepting payments. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** This keeps me organized. Simple and clean. The checkmark is dumb and hard to enter. If you don't hit it just right, the time doesn't get entered. Why not just have a box that you tick, or just use the enter key? As every entry is at least a 0.1, it would be nice to change the default to this). **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** No problems at all. It is a tool with a particular purpose, and for as long as you need to achieve the purpose, you appreciate using the best tool to do so. **Recommendations to others considering CosmoLex:** Your time is valuable. The reporting feature has improved over the past year to download an excel file has been enhanced wonderfully and does assist in filling the gap caused by the lack of a robust reporting system. The system has many safeguards to prevent errors. However, it is sometimes challenging to find out how to post things that are out of the norm. Overall I really enjoy working with the system and the folks that respond to questions submitted via email are extremely courteous and helpful **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** I find that I often have to hunt around and try different things to use it effectively. Right now, the only real upgrade i feel the system needs is a robust ad hoc reporting system. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quicker access to accurate data. It's slow to find a client when I type the client's name into the field. What I most dislike is the confusing and difficulty in pulling useful reports. Reports have to be viewed in pdf or spreadsheet format, can't just get them in the browser. It's good to have everything in one place, and not have to enter financial data twice, like charges and disbursements. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** It is not as user-friendly as some programs. Recording time is a hassle, there are too many steps involved. Navigation is sometimes a bit challenging, and not intuitive. More widgets would be extremely useful, such as a time tracking browser add-in, that allows you to track time in any browser window and record it directly to Cosmolex. The email filing solution is also quite clunky. We previously used Clio and FasterLaw, which provided almost seamless email filing. **Recommendations to others considering CosmoLex:** Use the offered support to set it up properly at the outset, and get as much training as you need. the support team is great. Cosmo might be a better fit for people who don't do a lot of hourly billing, as the time recording process is a bit of a pain, especially for storing and recording time on emails. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Bookkeeping is easier with Cosmolex than with programs that don't have native accounting tools. I love that I don't need separate financial software. This means that if I am employed as a Legal Assistant then I would like to learn the following: Posting accounts to the matter, i.e. court services online, BC Online, Exam for Discovery accounts from Court Reporters, interpreters' accounts and accounts from Mediators, etc. Since I am NOT the accountant nor the bookkeeper at the law firm, I merely want to assist with posting accounts from service providers. Getting the correct training regarding the right scenario would make a big difference in achieving speed at using Cosmolex--something my law firm would greatly benefit from. Perhaps a training choice for the following scenarios would be advantageous in achieving a faster and higher proficiency in using Cosmolex: Provide training for the following points of view: 1. As to an Accountant's point of view; 2. A Bookkeeper's point of view; 2. The lawyer's point of view; 3. A Paralegal and/or Legal Assistant's point of view; and 4. and from the Information Input Clerk's point of view. Training should start with Quick Start, Intermediate and Advanced according to the scenarios one requires. I am a Legal Assistant and a beginner of the use of Cosmolex. I am finding it hard to know and to remember all steps and keystrokes necessary to achieve even at Quick Start level. Having always to google the moves one wants to do is tedious as the questions posed via google or even Cosmolex may not be technically correct under the scenarios shown above--Google or Cosmolex may not understand the beginner's technical attempt at the posing the question. I have not yet integrated Microsoft 365 with Cosmolex but I am eager to try this and to switch my practice to being entirely cloud based with very little by way of a paper file. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** Entering time is slow and if you start typing in to one box before another is finished loading whatever you typed into the box you're working in disappears. File folders for uploading client documents are initially categorized in ways that are not intuitive whatsoever. The relationship btw Cosmolex and other things like LawPay are not as seamless or as useful as they could be - accounts and transactions often have to be double checked on both platforms to ensure both are up to date, especially as Cosmolex does not recognize anything done in Law Pay except when client's click on the "pay invoice now" link in their invoices. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can differentiate btw consults and clients, run conflict checks, send invoices and receive payments electronically, and share documents securely with clients using the client portal. **Official Response from Maleeha Ahmad:** > We're glad to hear that you are eager to try integrating Microsoft 365 with CosmoLex and transitioning to a cloud-based practice. ### 13. Most functions are relatively easy and straightforward. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** Posting time is often difficult. I find that it's slow to register the client I am putting time under, so once I start typing in the description it will take too long to load and delete everything I wrote. Sometimes when I enter in the time, it will keep saying that you cannot override the timer, despite the timer not working. There's also an issue of reminders not actually sent to emails in the calendar, despite selecting the reminders box. We find that once a year, we change our rates. I wish there was an option to change the rate of every time entry up to a selected date instead of having to change individual time entries. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's easy to keep track of how much is in trust and how much is outstanding. There is nothing in this product that I like. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** Everything. Tabs had a great product with PracticeMaster and they carried nothing over to Cosmolex that made PracticeMaster a great product. As a case management software, Cosmolex does nothing as well as PracticeMaster did. Its Outlook app does not work. it must be reloaded nearly every time I want to use it. Unlike the Practice Master Journal, there is no one place in Cosmolex where all activity in a file can be viewed. What could be performed with one step in Practice Master takes multiple steps in Cosmolex. For instance, A. When an email was sent in Outlook, it automatically went to PM where it could be billed immediately. In Cosmolex, 1. You send the email; 2. Go to the sent mail folder in Outlook and then send it to Cosmolex (if the app is working, if not the Cosmolex app must be re-loaded); 3. Go to Cosmolex and input your billing information. B. In PM, type an entry in Journal and it can be billed from that entry. In Cosmolex, 1. Type a note; 2. Once the note is typed you must then press the button to add the time entry; 3. Re-enter the billing detail and input the time. The programmers who created this monstrosity know nothing about litigation case management. Cosmolex customer service is unbearable. They do not know their product and cannot fix any of the problems. They have been informed about many problems with the software and their only response is that many issues will be addressed in the forthcoming upgrade. That upgrade has been promised to be dropped months ago and there is no indication when the upgrade will be available and there has been no explanation of the changes that will be made in the "upgrade". What I love about it is the online payment processing. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** Clients are not able to pay multiple invoices in one transaction. They are forced to click on each individual invoice and pay them separately. This is not convenient and confusing for clients. Additionally, CosmoLex does not list subtotals or totals for work in progress and summaries, which is annoying and should be at the top of their list for their software engineers. I need to know the number of billable hours I've entered AND the value of that time. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** I switched to CosmoLex from Clio because CosmoLex includes accounting so I did not need to use two separate programs for practice management and accounting. This has saved me time and money. I would have to say that being able to invoice in bulk and see account balances at the same time makes me more efficient. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** One of the downfalls I see is that we can't only add one email address to the system to cc us when sending invoices. In addition, we get many calls from clients saying they can't download our invoices. It seems like the link on the email is not mobile-friendly. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Trust Accounting - the system avoids human error when it comes to overdrawing accounts. Our law society does not like to see deletions of any money transfering **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Previous applications could only be used in the office. Everything is categorized well and simple to follow based on your need. **What do you dislike about CosmoLex?** I can't think of anything I dislike off the top of my head, but I am fairly new at using the software. **What problems is CosmoLex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Cosmolex is helpful with organizing all our invoices and billings. It is easy for me to set up a new client profile and then bill them at the end of their case.
