## About Cortex
Engineering organizations grow faster than their processes. Services multiply, ownership gets murky, and institutional knowledge walks out the door with every departure. Standards that made sense at 50 engineers break down at 500. When something goes wrong, teams spend hours figuring out who's responsible which delays fixing the problem. When leadership asks how engineering is improving, there's no reliable answer. Cortex is the Engineering Operations Platform that changes this. Know who owns what — Cortex automatically identifies service ownership across thousands of repositories, eliminating the manual work of tracking down who is responsible for what. Scale best practices — Self-service workflows let teams scaffold new services and provision infrastructure in minutes, ensuring every team follows the same standards by default. Measure and improve — Scorecards and Initiatives surface gaps, set benchmarks, and give teams a clear view of technical debt and what to fix next. Make smarter decisions — Engineering Intelligence brings DORA metrics, cycle time, incident trends, and the impact of AI adoption into one place. How Cortex works Cortex connects to your existing tools including GitHub, GitLab, Jira, PagerDuty, Kubernetes, Datadog, SonarQube, and more, and automatically maps your engineering ecosystem. Unlike platforms that require months of engineering investment to build and maintain, Cortex is designed to deliver value from day one. Who uses Cortex Cortex is built for the entire engineering organization. - Engineering leaders use Cortex to understand operational maturity, track standards, and measure impact across teams. - Platform and SRE teams use it to drive consistency, reliability, and automation through shared Scorecards and Workflows. - Developers use it to move faster with self-service golden paths, clear ownership, and real-time visibility into their services. Trusted by high-performing organizations including ASML, Canva, Blackstone, and Skyscanner.

## Cortex Reviews
 ### 1. Comprehensive Developer Platform with Competitive Pricing and Strong Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** dotmit . | Head of Platform Engineering, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

It is the most comprehensive developer platform we came across in our vendor evaluation. We looked at factors such as availability of ready-built integrations, established/existing customer base, compatibility with our choice of tech stack and cloud provider, and ease of use. Cortex came out on top in almost every area.
When it came to pricing we were expecting them to be the most expensive as we narrowed down our choices, but we were pleasantly surprised when they offered us the most competitive deal.
We have had a lot of support including an intensive onboarding/adoption phase, and the product is doing well in the AI space with a MCP server and a virtual CIO capability.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

There is a lot less to dislike than there is to like. We would like to see improvements to workflows and to the UX as we are not only using the platform for developers but for engineering leaders to view metrics, KPI and compliance reporting

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cortex helps us with self service workflows, a dynamically updated service catalogue that pulls data from our GCP projects and becomes the source of truth for other products such as Datadog and incident.io, as well as giving us dashboards showing continuous compliance status of applications and other performance and engineering intelligence data

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review, Mit. We're so glad Cortex had the ready-built integrations and stack compatibility your team was looking for through your evaluation, and that the MCP server and virtual CIO are proving useful in the AI space. Our team takes pride in providing the support you needed to onboard and adopt the platform.

We've taken note on the workflow and UX improvements for your metrics, KPI, and compliance reporting. Reach out at help@cortex.io with specifics and we'll loop in the right people.

Appreciate you taking the time.

 ### 2. Streamlined Data Insights - Useful information within a few clicks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Guillermo S. | International Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

I really like the ease of use with Cortex. It's very easy to click through, and even if you don't fully understand what you're doing, it's very intuitive to use. It allows you to map out what you need and immediately start getting information.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

There's a little bit more customization that could be done for Cortex. One of the pain points is the ingestion of data, which is not as friendly as we would like. It's good but could improve from an eight out of ten to a ten if it was more like plug and play, allowing anyone, even those without super technical knowledge, to easily plug in information and ensure accuracy through natural language. There's also a need for additional on demand customization that could be achievable through natural language. Additionally, the initial setup was slightly trickier than anticipated, requiring some technical backup to get started. It would be great if it were easier for non-technical users to set up on their own.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Cortex simplifies data gathering and interpretation, making it easy to understand team behaviors, identify bottlenecks, and map out relationships with just a few clicks.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review, Guillermo. It's great to hear Cortex makes it easy to map team behaviors, spot bottlenecks, and see relationships across your org in just a few clicks.

You raised a good point on ingestion and setup, especially wanting natural language for on-demand customization instead of needing technical backup to get started. We'll send this feedback to our team.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

 ### 3. Accurate Ownership & Team Rosters That Scale with Constant Reorgs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

What I like best is that Cortex stays accurate as the source of truth for ownership and team rosters even when the org reorganizes, which happens constantly here. Being able to reliably answer "who owns this service" and "who's actually on this team" cuts through a ton of ambiguity, and it's especially valuable during cross-team incidents when I need to find the right owner fast. The scorecards are a close second: they turn abstract standards into something measurable and actionable across teams.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

The data is only as good as what teams keep current (regardless of the surface that data is ingested from), so ownership on less-maintained services can drift and needs periodic cleanup. Beyond that, the accuracy of scorecards depends on consistent adoption across teams, so it takes real buy-in to get full value.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our org reorganizes constantly, so ownership and team rosters used to live in stale wikis and people's heads. During incidents we'd waste 20+ minutes just figuring out who owned a service. Now Cortex gives us that answer in seconds, and scorecards keep engineering standards measurable across teams instead of us nagging.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review. Glad Cortex keeps ownership and team rosters accurate through constant reorgs, and that incident lookup dropped from 20+ minutes to seconds!

If you'd like to discuss strategies or features to help drive team buy-in and automate cleanups, reach out at help@cortex.io and we'll loop in the right people.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

 ### 4. Great DevOps Integration, but UI Is Too Clunky

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

As an engineer who's used Cortex for over 5 years, the standout strength is how deeply it integrates with our existing DevOps tooling. It pulls together service catalog data, scorecards, and on-call information in one place, which makes it easy to see ownership boundaries at a glance — I don't have to jump between five different tools to figure out who owns what or who's on call for a given service. The scorecards feature in particular has been useful for tracking whether teams are meeting internal standards over time.
Performance hasn't been a pain point for me — I haven't run into slowness or reliability issues with the platform day-to-day (outside of the search UI issue already mentioned).
I'm not close enough to the commercial side to comment on pricing or cost-effectiveness — that's a conversation better had with whoever owns the Cortex relationship on the vendor/finance side.
Cortex is actively maintained internally — there's a steady stream of communications (email and internal Company comms) about updates and new features being rolled out, so it doesn't feel like a stagnant tool. I haven't needed to raise support tickets personally, so I can't speak to response times, but the visibility into what's changing has been good.
I've used the AI features to query which services my team owns — useful for quickly answering "what do we actually own" without manually digging through the catalog, especially handy when ownership boundaries aren't top of mind.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

Search is the weak point. The UI feels slow and clunky when trying to look things up — even with 5+ years of familiarity with the tool, finding a specific service or piece of information often takes longer than it should. It's not that the data isn't there; it's that navigating to it is more effort than it needs to be.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helped our team clearly understand where the boundaries of service ownership are, which used to be a source of confusion and slow-downs when incidents happened or when we needed to know who to talk to about a dependency. Having the catalog, scorecards, and on-call info connected means less time spent tracking people down and more time spent actually resolving issues.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review. We really appreciate the feedback from a long-time user. Glad having your catalog, scorecards, and on-call info in one place is clarifying ownership boundaries and saving you time during incidents.

Your feedback on the search UI is entirely fair. We are actively making improvements to the search feature to make navigation much faster, and those updates are shipping very soon. If you haven’t already talked with your Cortex team and want to see what improvements are in flight, reach out to them or at help@cortex.io.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

 ### 5. Flexible, Customizable Platfor-But Reporting and Notifications Lag at Scale

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hariprasad B. | Senior Software Tester, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

The platform is flexible and can be customized to match our organization’s standards, best practices, and specific needs.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

The reporting and notification features in Cortex work well for smaller organizations. For larger organizations, they somewhat meet expectations, but they don’t exceed them.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the team rolling out the IDP in the organization, Cortex is enabling us to create workflows that reduce the time product teams need to spend on “keep the lights on” work. The insights from our scorecards also help us meet compliance and audit standards, which in turn builds confidence in our production readiness.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thanks for the review, Hariprasad. Glad Cortex's flexibility is helping cut "keep the lights on" work for product teams during your IDP rollout, and that scorecard insights are driving compliance and production readiness.

Your point on reporting and notifications is noted and on our radar as an area to improve. If you haven't already shared specific requirements with your dedicated CSM, reach out to them or email help@cortex.io and we'll get you in front of the right people.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.

 ### 6. Intuitive, Integration-Rich Catalog—But Adoption and Data Drift Take Work

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

Cortex finally brought order to our chaos. The UI is intuitive and our devs picked it up fast, with everything in one place instead of bouncing between Jira, Confluence, Swagger, and cloud accounts. The 60+ integrations and automatic metadata ingestion mean the catalog maintains itself, and it's scaled smoothly as our estate has grown.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

A catalog is only as good as what you feed it. Once integrations start drifting or metadata goes stale, you can end up with a portal that looks authoritative but is quietly misleading. For us, tracking down and correcting bad data became its own job.

Driving real adoption was also harder than we expected. Outside the platform team, a lot of developers simply didn’t open it, so there was a real risk of it turning into shelfware we paid for but didn’t actually use. On top of that, some of the configuration is fiddly and seems to assume a level of upfront investment we underestimated, and a few of the areas we wanted to customize were more rigid than the demos made them seem.

Overall, it’s a capable tool, but it really expects a mature, disciplined organization to get consistent value out of it. If you’re not already operating that way, it can end up feeling like more overhead than payoff.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Cortex, our biggest problem was that nobody could answer basic questions quickly: who owns this service, is it production-ready, what does it depend on, and where do I even find the docs. That knowledge lived in people's heads, scattered Confluence pages, and tribal memory, so onboarding was slow and incidents dragged on while we figured out who to page. Cortex solves that by giving us one source of truth for every service, with ownership, dependencies, and health all in one place.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thanks for the review. We're glad the catalog held up as your estate grew and cut down the tool-hopping for your devs.

You're right that stale data and low adoption are where catalogs break down. Those are hard problems we've been looking to solve as we roll out the context graph and we'd genuinely like to help you work through them. Reach out at help@cortex.io whenever you want to dig in, and we'll loop in the right people.

Appreciate you taking the time to review Cortex.

 ### 7. Cortex Integrates Seamlessly and Brings Visibility Across Our Tooling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt B. | Infrastructure Architect (AND Digital), Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

Cortex integrates well with most of the tools we use and has allowed us to shine a light into the dark corners of our estate

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

The Terraform provider needs a lot of work. Being able to manage our entity & relationship types, catalogues etc as code would enable us to test changes before we make them and enforce the same peer review standards that we use for everything else

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mapping out an ecosystem of hundreds of serverless microservices & enforcing standards across that ecosystem

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thanks for the review, Matt. "Shining a light into the dark corners of our estate" is a great way to put it, and mapping hundreds of serverless microservices while enforcing standards across them is exactly the job Cortex is built for.

Thank you for the feedback on the Terraform provider. If you haven’t already talked with your Cortex team and want to walk us through your setup or highlight specific gaps, reach out at help@cortex.io.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

 ### 8. Cortex Centralizes Metadata and Delivers Strong Value for Internal Developer Platforms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

Ease of use, flexibility, extensibility, and usefulness with other technologies within our technical ecosystem including with AI agents and people using MCP servers. As a vendor, support and value delivered is strong as Cortex solves a key need for internal developer platforms by centralizing important metadata and enabling new capabilities.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

Seeing how others are using Cortex within their customer base

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cortex enables an application business metadata repository enabling a central place for us to manage data about our systems, technologies, pipelines, other metadata, and tracking initiatives, all automatically..

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thanks for the review, Larry. We're glad Cortex is giving you automatic metadata upkeep with no manual work, and fitting flexibly into your stack. It's also great to hear it's working well with your AI agents and MCP servers, which matter more than ever in this new AI era.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

 ### 9. Powerful Integrations That Tie Alerts, Services, and Commits Together

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ian N. | Lead Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

The integration with all of the different systems lets us tie things together to really get an integrated view of everything. How many times are alerts tied to a specific service? How recently were the commits to that service that relate to the incident? It all ties together well.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

Writing some of the rules is still a bit finicky. They're improving it though.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It lets us have standardized metrics for engineering excellence that all of our teams and services are able to use and look at.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thanks for the review, Ian. Tying alerts, commits, and services into a single view is exactly the kind of incident context we want engineers to have without digging across tools.

Glad the rules authoring experience is improving, that friction is real and it's an area we're actively working on. If you hit specific pain points there, we'd love to hear them. Reach out at help@cortex.io and we'll loop in the right people.

Appreciate you taking the time.

 ### 10. Valuable Integrations, But Feature Bloat Deters

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

I appreciated Cortex for its easy integration with our existing enablement data through custom data integrations. The software catalogs and scorecards were also valuable, especially for signaling to teams the things we wanted them to focus on, such as repository health, service health, and best practices.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

I felt like there was a lot of feature bloat within Cortex for things we never used. We also experienced a lack of customization on views, which was limiting. Moreover, we never had a feature request ticket prioritized during almost two years of working with Cortex, despite bringing up the same features repeatedly on monthly calls.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Cortex to integrate our existing enablement data easily and utilize scorecards to signal repository and service health. Though helpful, feature bloat and ignored feature requests led us back to our own solutions.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review. Glad custom data integrations, catalogs, and scorecards delivered value for signaling repository and service health across your teams.

We’d like to learn more about your feedback over the past two years that felt unaddressed. If you're open to sharing details on the specific view customizations you needed, reach out at help@cortex.io, reference this review, and we'll loop in the right people.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

 ### 11. Intuitive, Smooth Service Organization with Powerful Integrations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

This is a really helpful tool for organizing the services we own. The design feels intuitive, and the user experience is smooth, so it’s straightforward to navigate and easy to use day-to-day. No performance issues with more than 2k entities; many useful integrations are available.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

Sometimes it’s missing filters that should be available, and it also lacks dynamic dashboards based on the query language.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organization-wise, we can keep track of every service and API we own.

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review. Glad the day-to-day experience is intuitive and smooth, and that performance is steady with more than 2k entities in the catalog.

Your feedback on missing filters and dynamic dashboards powered by our query language is helpful. If you have specifics on what you'd want to see there, please reach out to your CSM or email help@cortex.io and we'll get you in front of the right people.

 ### 12. Cortex helps us keep track of who owns what

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Cortex?**

In the age of AI, it can serve as a crucial context layer for agents. It helps ensure there’s no duplication of effort or code, keeping work aligned and avoiding unnecessary rework.

**What do you dislike about Cortex?**

They’re a bit slow to implement feature requests. At times, there are crucial improvements that could be made to the platform, but the implementation tends to lag behind.

**What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Context for Agents

**Official Response from Tiffany Thain:**

> Thank you for the review. As more of the SDLC gets automated, a context layer that keeps agents from duplicating work matters more, and it's good to see that playing out for your team.

We appreciate your feedback on feature request speed. If there's something specific you want prioritized, loop in your CSM directly or email help@cortex.io.

 ### 14. A great scalable flexible tool and easy to integrate
