I have been regularly logging hours and expenses as part of my daily work. I love the app version where I can take a picture of my receipt and discard it immediately, this has saved me a lot of time by passing the expenses directly to the accounting team. Tracking billable hours is also quite easy and there are a couple of options to do it, from using project timers that you can pause and resume to the old manual entry method. While working on even a few projects, the interface of the timecard sizes each project with an overbearing amount of space. While it does an excellent job of tracking time & expenses, etc. it is still developing its accounting knowledge. There are some very simple things they could change to address the accounting departments needs. And in my opinion, that is what this software is for the most, tracking time and expenses for projects but mostly accounting for the company. If they wish to compete with other accounting software, they really need to make the focus on functionality and customization options PER user. It simplified and streamlined nearly everything. It also offered us many new tools which we havn't yet full implemented yet. The implementation is a change for how we had done things previously, but a change for the better since we can now distrubute and desminate information about a project more easily to everyone. We use it daily to track time. As we get new projects in we are asking more questions to set them up right from the beginning, to allow us to understand what type of template would be best. Whenever we have a question the support team is really quick to get back to us. The training was pretty good too if you're completely new to a system like this, but I found it was most beneficial to those implementing the software, like managment. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** There are a few things that just don't quite jive together. When working with allocations and forecasting, unless the time peroid is set-up correctly, the tasks don't show up in the forecasting. Example, we have a project which is under construction for nealy 3 years, and unless the time period we set to include the start of that task, it doesn't show up in forecasting. which is frustrating when trying to forecast for the week, or month. Also, budgets for hour allocation are not easy to develop. We found ourselves flipping between a number of pages, our fee for the phase, etc. Our expectation is that you would have the information on hand when setting those figures. It is in the software, it's just not present at the time you're making those budget decisions, and so having multiple tabs, an excel sheet to calulate the hours or a calculator is still needed. Roles, you can't set budgets based on a role, it has to be assigned a resource, while sometimes we're not sure who will be working on it, but it will need an "Architect", or a "Technologist", so we end up picking someone from the team, even though they may not be be them in the end, or perhaps it might be them with some support from others. **What problems is BQE CORE solving and how is that benefiting you?** BQE lets us gather more detailed information on where our employees are spending their time. It allows us to budget our time, and then evaluate if projects are going well or not in real time as the time is spent. It helps us to determine when projects might be doing poorly and lets us see why, at some level. ### 15. Employees can enter their time and expenses, which then carry forward to invoices, which then carry forward to financial reports, with every step in between. 2) Helpful performance data presented in a clear way. 3) Robust and customizable. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** 1) Constant hiccups. The customer service team is always helpful when needed and I know they've put a lot of work on the back end to fix some of the recurring issues, but it still happens and interrupts our workflow. 2) Reports. CORE does have a great selection of reports, but when they are missing a certain filter or presentation type, we have to ask for a custom report which costs extra money. **What problems is BQE CORE solving and how is that benefiting you?** Storing and presenting the data all in one place. Rather than tracking hours on timesheets for the purposes of payroll, we are able to enter them in CORE which then can be applied to project invoices which then gives us an accurate view of the project's profitability and performance. You can easily add a line to a project when entering your time without having to re-enter all of the project information. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** I wish there was a stopwatch feature for the time tracking. A different program had it and it was used a lot with the designers that were multi tasking. you could start and stop the time and it would automatically add it to the time tracking. **What problems is BQE CORE solving and how is that benefiting you?** We no longer have to use an excell file to keep track of all our time. Can't even change the sort order in most reports or select/unselect columns of data. Minor changes to standard reports require customization by support or exported to manipulate manually. One of the best parts of Core is its Customer Service which is available 24/7, and the staff is well-trained in all aspects of BQE Core. As it is subscription-based, you can purchase different levels depending on your need and customize the setting for the level of access that various staff needs. They also offer HR and CRM modules, which we do not currently use. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** I wish that draft invoices were a little more flexible, which they are trying to address now. I don't particularly appreciate that each phase is seen as an individual project, so the phases do not sum at the top, and if there are changes to contract sums, you need to remember to re-add everything. I am also not a fan of the write-up/down feature and wish we could turn it off as our firm does not use it - it is annoying that it automatically applies a WU/WD. **Recommendations to others considering BQE CORE:** Go into this with an open mind. There is going to be a learning curve, so be patient. It was a relatively easy transition from BillQuick. The support crew is very responsive. The cost is reasonable. It is easy to train people on. The mobile feature is also nice. Custom templates is a great feature. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** There are little things that bother me, like not being able to manipulate what I see on Project and Client entry screens. But there are two big issues: The biggest issue is with batching invoices. While you can batch all active jobs, it takes forever, and I have to keep hitting "MORE." Also, you can only send ten at a time to draft. Which also takes forever. Once they are in draft, you can't print them. I have to email them to myself (again in groups of ten), save them, open them, and then print them. Or I can download individually PDF (which takes an unreasonable amount of time). The Gantt chart only shows one project at a time. It's useless because I can only view a small part of the big picture. Being able to view one project when we have 80, makes this a useless feature and was honestly one of the reasons we went to Core. You can't project manage without knowing other project obligations. The setup process is straightforward. The ease with which you can create, duplicate, or clone projects makes for easy creation by any approved user at a moment’s notice. All “At-a-Glance” desktop features can immediately reveal to the PM whether a project is profitable. The global settings allow you to set up your company based on your company's needs. Also, the weekly training classes assist with getting started on action items that get you up and running. One remarkable aspect is the ability to call the "help desk" from inside the software to discuss issues relevant to your company. Friendly staff, always willing to assist. **What do you dislike about BQE CORE?** The least helpful thing: Not everything in BQE Core is intuitive, so you must purchase training packages that will teach you how to use the software. No one explained that in the beginning. Also, other hidden fees were associated with transferring your data from a different platform or previous software applications. It is not a complete Project Management software solution because it does not include a payroll module. Using this software, you can enter time and expenses and accrue vacation, sick, and holiday pay, but you cannot pay the employee or payroll taxes. You will have to purchase an additional software solution and enter adjusting entries in BQE to account for the payroll expenses. Coming from a software solution that did everything, this was a game changer for me. **What problems is BQE CORE solving and how is that benefiting you?** BQE is designed to resolve problems in many ways. The way that projects, phases and extras are set up is easier. Billing the client from within the software cuts down on paper waste. Bank reconciliation is easier because connecting the bank account with the software enables you to see at a glance which jobs have issued payments and which checks have cleared.
