"Powerful Compliance Automation, But Dashboard, Pricing, and Speed Need Work"

4/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

The most helpful thing about Cookiebot by Usercentrics is how it automates the entire compliance process. The automated scanning and cookie categorization save a huge amount of time and help ensure the site stays compliant without constant manual work.

Another major upside is how easy it is to implement, especially when using tools like Google Tag Manager. It gives me peace of mind by handling complex privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA automatically, and it also offers a professional, customizable interface that blends well with any website’s design. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

The least helpful aspect is the unintuitive admin dashboard, which makes the initial setup harder than it should be. Other major downsides are the expensive subscription costs for larger sites and the negative impact it can have on website loading speeds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

Business Problems Solved

Legal Compliance Risk: Automates compliance with complex global data privacy laws such as GDPR (EU), CCPA/CPRA (USA), and LGPD (Brazil).

Incomplete Cookie Visibility: Its patented scanning technology automatically detects and categorizes 100% of cookies and trackers, including those hidden inside other scripts that manual audits often miss.

Loss of Marketing Data: Through integration with Google Consent Mode v2, it lets you collect essential analytics and conversion data even when users reject cookies, helping prevent “data gaps.”

Manual Maintenance Overhead: Reduces the need for manual coding and constant updates as privacy laws or website cookies change, thanks to automated monthly scans and updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Setup and Solid Integrations, But User and Multi-Instance Management Needs Work"

3.5/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

Good flexibility in the setup options, particularly when it comes to the banner design and functionality. It also integrates well with WordPress and Google Tag Manager. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

There are three seperate platforms with different logins depending on when you set up your account, which causes confusion.

Inability to add users means I can't add a billing contact, it all has to be done from my login. Perhaps this has been resolved but it was the case innitially. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

Google Ads now requires the use of a consent management platform. After an innitial review Cookebot seemed like the best option. It has allowed me to quickly get a CMP set up for my clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable GDPR Compliance and Easy Integration"

4/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

What I appreciate most is how seamlessly it integrates into any technical environment, regardless of the platform we use. The setup process is straightforward, which saved us a lot of development time. Additionally, the automated scanning feature is excellent. It provides fast, transparent, and highly accurate information about the cookies being used, ensuring our website stays compliant without constant manual oversight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

The pricing structure is relatively high compared to some other solutions on the market. Since the cost is based on the number of subpages, it can become quite expensive for larger websites or even smaller sites with extensive content. For businesses on a tight budget, the jump between tiers can feel a bit steep. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

Cookiebot solves the massive headache of manual cookie auditing and documentation. We no longer need to manually identify every cookie and coordinate with developers to update our lists. The automated cookie declaration table, which is inserted via a simple script, saves us a tremendous amount of administrative and technical time.

Knowing that we are fully GDPR-compliant without having to constantly monitor changing regulations or manual updates. It allows our team to focus on more productive tasks while the platform handles the complexity of compliance in the background. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable and Compliant Cookie Solution"

5/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

I use Cookiebot by Usercentrics to manage cookies for my visitors, ensuring they can enable or disable them in compliance with RGPD. I appreciate its reliable system that never goes down and makes sure we stay compliant without consuming much of our time. The integration with a high-quality cookie solution at minimal cost is another plus, and the translation of banners is a handy feature. It's also great that it provides hints on how to set up and propose cookies to users. I find the system simple to use, which saves time and ensures consistency in the cookie banner's user interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

I had to develop my own integration of React, but I guess since they added an official plugin that injects that for you without having to maintain the HTML tags. The hardest part was adding my tailored homemade React component to inject it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Cookiebot by Usercentrics to manage cookie consent for GDPR compliance efficiently. It solves integration challenges with minimal cost, offers reliable service, saves time, and ensures the consistency of the cookie banner. It's easy to use and stays updated with compliance regulations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cookiebot CMP: Robust, Reliable GDPR Compliance with Powerful Scanning and GTM Integration"

5/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

In my experience, Cookiebot CMP behaves like a technically robust consent management platform that focuses on keeping sites aligned with GDPR, ePrivacy, and similar privacy frameworks without forcing you to hand‑craft consent logic from scratch.

It is structured around a clear architecture: cookie scanning, automatic categorization, banner configuration, consent storage, and reporting are distinct but well‑connected components that map nicely to a real compliance workflow. This organization makes it easier for me to think in terms of stages: first I discover what actually runs on the site, then I design the banner, and finally I wire that consent state into my tags and scripts. When I work with more complex sites, this modular layout helps prevent the “spaghetti” effect where tracking, consent, and UI get entangled in custom code that is hard to maintain.

One of the strongest aspects in my view is the scanning engine. Cookiebot’s crawler inspects the site, detects cookies and trackers, and leverages a central cookie database to auto‑classify many of them into categories such as strictly necessary, preferences, statistics, or marketing. In practice, this significantly reduces the amount of time I would otherwise spend manually hunting down what each third‑party cookie does and how it should be categorized.

The recurring scans, usually on a schedule, give me ongoing visibility: when new scripts or widgets are introduced by the content or marketing team, Cookiebot tends to pick them up and highlight any fresh cookies that might affect compliance. Having those periodic reports helps ensure that the initial compliance setup does not silently degrade as the site evolves.

The banner model itself feels technically complete. I can expose granular consent to users with category‑based toggles, and I can tune the wording and behavior so that the banner aligns with regional requirements such as strict opt‑in for tracking, or opt‑out scenarios where relevant. Being able to localize the banner into multiple languages is particularly helpful when I work on international projects, because it lets me keep a single consent framework while still presenting texts that are understandable and legally sound for each audience. The level of customization on layout, colors, and labels is usually sufficient to keep the banner visually consistent with a brand’s design system, while still preserving clarity and accessibility for end users.

From an integration standpoint, Cookiebot fits reasonably well into setups that rely on Google Tag Manager and Consent Mode. Once the banner and domain configuration are in place, I can use the consent state to control when analytics and marketing tags fire, rather than relying on brittle custom logic. In practice, this means I can define tag triggers that depend on Cookiebot’s consent signals: tags only execute once the user has opted into the relevant category. This approach substantially reduces the risk that tracking fires before consent is given, a situation that is easy to stumble into if consent is handled only by custom scripts or poorly coordinated plugins. For teams already used to Tag Manager, adding Cookiebot feels more like augmenting an existing workflow than replacing it.

The pricing model is another element I find pragmatic, especially because there is a free plan for smaller sites with limited page counts. For prototypes, small business sites, and testing environments, being able to implement a full‑fledged CMP without an upfront cost makes it easier to validate whether the product fits the technical and legal requirements. On larger sites, the paid tiers are structured in a way that is relatively easy to reason about, typically tying costs to domain and size rather than obscure metrics. The lack of setup fees and long‑term lock‑ins is also reassuring; if a project winds down or a client changes direction, I am not stuck with a contract that outlives the actual need for the service.

In terms of operational reliability, I have found Cookiebot to be quite stable. Once configured, it tends to behave predictably in production: the banner loads, consent state is respected, and the integration with tags and scripts remains consistent across updates. That reliability matters a lot to me because a CMP effectively sits in the critical path of data collection. If it misbehaves, it is not just a cosmetic issue; it can directly affect both the legality and completeness of the analytics and marketing data that teams rely on. Knowing that the platform has been battle‑tested across many live deployments gives me more confidence when recommending it in professional contexts.

I also appreciate having built‑in tools for checking and validating the configuration. The presence of cookie and compliance tests means I can run automated checks to see whether cookies are being appropriately blocked before consent and whether new trackers have slipped through. This reduces the need to rely solely on manual debugging with browser dev tools, which can be time‑consuming and error‑prone, especially when multiple environments and domains are involved. Being able to back my assertions about compliance with concrete reports from the platform is very helpful in conversations with stakeholders and legal teams.

Finally, seeing Cookiebot adopted across a large number of sites and used in many countries is valuable on its own. A widely used CMP tends to accumulate better documentation, more integration examples, and a richer ecosystem of how‑to’s and implementation patterns. When I face a niche use case or a tricky integration, chances are good that someone has already tackled something similar and that I can adapt their approach rather than starting from a blank slate. For day‑to‑day work, this kind of “community knowledge” around a product makes a noticeable difference in how quickly I can solve problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

Despite the overall positive impression, there are several aspects of Cookiebot that do not fully convince me and that have cost me time or effort. A big one is the learning curve for non‑technical users. Conceptually, a CMP involves consent states, categories, prior blocking, tag orchestration, and regional regulatory requirements. While Cookiebot exposes all this through a fairly clean interface, I still find that for someone without a technical or privacy background, the whole setup can feel overwhelming. I have seen site owners expect a plug‑and‑play experience and then realize they need to understand far more about how their site works and what third‑party tools they use than they initially thought.

Another area where I am not entirely comfortable is how the pricing model and billing logic have evolved over time. When the underlying metric for billing changes, such as moving between per‑page and other usage metrics and then adjusting again, it can complicate budget predictions. In my role, I often have to justify not only the technical suitability of a tool but also its cost structure to clients or internal stakeholders. When those metrics shift, I find myself recalculating and re‑explaining the financial implications, which is not an ideal experience. Stability and predictability in pricing are important for long‑term planning, and any perceived volatility in that area adds friction.

My impression of support is somewhat mixed as well.

On the positive side, the documentation covers a wide range of topics, and for standard implementation scenarios it is usually sufficient. However, when I step outside those common patterns and deal with more complex setups, I have sometimes felt that I was left to figure out solutions on my own. For instance, multi‑domain architectures, heavily customized single‑page applications, or intricate tag orchestration strategies can expose edge cases where the existing guides are not detailed enough. In those moments, I would have appreciated more proactive or deeply technical guidance rather than having to iterate through trial and error.

Banner customization, while generally flexible, has its limits when it comes to highly refined UX or advanced design systems. In cases where I wanted micro‑interactions, very specific animations, or non‑standard layouts tightly integrated with a custom front‑end framework, I felt constrained by what the built‑in configuration could offer. I sometimes had to resort to CSS overrides or custom scripting to align the banner with the desired UI. This is workable, but it increases complexity, introduces maintenance overhead, and risks breaking when the platform evolves or when the front‑end codebase changes. I would prefer a more extensible theming model that makes these advanced customizations cleaner and less brittle.

The automatic scanning and categorization, which I praised earlier, is also not infallible. On sites with unusual integrations, proprietary scripts, or many micro‑services, I have found that some cookies or tracking mechanisms are not captured or are miscategorized. In practice, this means I cannot simply rely on the default output; I still have to perform manual reviews and validations, particularly on high‑risk or high‑traffic pages. When stakeholders expect the scanning to be “set and forget,” explaining that there remains a non‑trivial amount of manual verification can be an uncomfortable conversation. I would like to see more explicit transparency about these limitations built directly into the product experience.

Lastly, Cookiebot can feel like a black box to teams that are not deeply familiar with how consent logic and tracking technologies work. Without a solid grasp of the underlying mechanisms, developers and marketers may experience the platform as something that “just does its magic” without a clear explanation of why certain cookies end up in specific categories or why some tags fire only under certain combinations of user choices. I prefer tools that surface more of their internal reasoning or that provide better explorable models of what happens when a user clicks a given button. This would help reduce misconfigurations that stem from misunderstandings and would give teams more confidence in the correctness of their setups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

In day‑to‑day work, Cookiebot has helped me turn the abstract challenge of cookie compliance into a concrete, repeatable process. Instead of treating tracking and consent as an afterthought patched in late in a project, I can incorporate the CMP into the architecture from the start. This lets me design data flows where non‑essential cookies simply do not fire until there is an explicit, category‑specific opt‑in from the user. It also lets me separate legal requirements from implementation details so that lawyers can focus on texts and policies, while I focus on how that translates into actual behavior in code.

A major benefit is the reduction in manual effort for cookie discovery and classification. Without a tool like this, I would have to inventory every script, cross‑reference third‑party documentation, and maintain a living catalog of cookies. With Cookiebot’s scanning and global cookie knowledge base, I can start from an automated suggestion and then refine where necessary. This changes the task from an exhaustive research exercise into a targeted review step, freeing me up to spend more time on higher‑level design decisions and less on repetitive lookups.

Operationally, Cookiebot gives me a coherent framework to connect banner UI, consent state, and tag orchestration. By integrating it with Tag Manager and similar tools, I can treat user consent as a first‑class signal and wire it into triggering conditions. This lowers the likelihood of accidental non‑compliance, because the default behavior is to block tracking until consent is present, instead of relying on developers remembering to wrap every tracking call in custom checks. In addition, when regulations or internal policies change, I can update the consent categories and banner copy in one place and have those changes cascade through the existing logic.

For projects with an international footprint, having a single CMP that supports multiple languages and can be configured for diverse regulatory environments is particularly useful. Rather than maintaining separate consent systems per region, I can centralize the logic while still tailoring texts and options to local expectations. This reduces fragmentation, simplifies maintenance, and helps ensure that users in different jurisdictions receive consistent, understandable information about how their data is handled. It also makes it easier to roll out new features or policy updates across all regions at once.

On smaller sites or early‑stage projects, the availability of a functional free tier has been a practical enabler. It allows me to bring a serious consent management layer into environments that otherwise might have gone without, simply because budget or priority did not justify a paid tool at the beginning. Once the site grows or the business matures, I can then evaluate whether it makes sense to move to a paid plan without having to replatform or refactor the entire consent setup. That continuity is valuable, because it avoids throwing away work and retraining teams on a different system.

Finally, the periodic scanning reports and compliance checks provide ongoing assurance that the site’s tracking footprint remains under control. As developers add features, marketing teams introduce new tools, and third‑party scripts evolve, it is very easy for new cookies and trackers to creep in. With Cookiebot, I receive recurring visibility into those changes and can intervene early if something appears that does not align with the current consent policy. This continuous feedback loop is crucial in real‑world environments where a site is never truly “finished” and where the risk profile can shift quickly as new integrations are adopted. Hello Luca,

thank you for this incredibly thorough and well-articulated review! It's clear you bring deep technical expertise to your work, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share such a detailed perspective.

We're glad to hear that the modular architecture - scanning, categorization, banner configuration, consent storage, and reporting - maps well to your compliance workflow. That separation of stages is very much by design, and it's great to know it helps you maintain clarity even on more complex sites. Your point about the scanning engine reducing manual effort for cookie discovery and classification is especially valuable to hear, as is the way you've been able to integrate consent signals into your GTM setup as a first-class triggering condition rather than relying on custom logic.

It's also encouraging that the platform has proven reliable in production across your projects. We understand that a CMP sits in the critical path of data collection, and operational stability is something we take very seriously.

We appreciate your candid feedback on the areas where we can improve. The learning curve for non-technical users is something we're mindful of, and your observation about site owners expecting a plug-and-play experience is a perspective we take seriously as we continue developing our onboarding and documentation. We also understand the importance of stable and predictable pricing, especially when you're advising clients, and your feedback here is noted.

When it comes to more complex setups, we know that documentation doesn't always cover every edge case. For multi-domain architectures, custom SPAs, or advanced tag orchestration scenarios, our support team is available to work through those with you directly at support@cookiebot.com. Similarly, while we understand the tension between built-in flexibility and the needs of advanced design systems, our platform does support full HTML, CSS, and JS customization, including fully custom banners - this guide may be helpful: https://support.cookiebot.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003921454-Can-I-build-my-own-fully-customized-cookie-consent-banner. Your point about making advanced theming less brittle is well taken. And you're right that automated scanning is a powerful starting point but not a replacement for manual review on complex sites - we appreciate you highlighting the value of transparency around this.

Thank you again for such a comprehensive review and for trusting Cookiebot across your projects. Feedback like yours genuinely helps us improve.

Kind regards,

The Cookiebot CMP Team

"Easy Cookiebot Setup via GTM with Great Theming, Translation, and Control"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

What I like best is that it’s just very easy to work with. It’s quick to integrate into any website, and I personally like using it through Google Tag Manager because I have full control over the consent events and how they impact the rest of my tags. The guide for setting up Cookiebot via GTM is very well documented and straightforward. That makes things much easier for me when managing tracking setups.

I also use the translation and theming features a lot. They’re really helpful when I need to match the consent experience to a client’s branding or preferences without doing a lot of extra work.

The pricing feels reasonable when you compare it to the time and effort you’d need to invest in building and maintaining a custom consent solution yourself. Never had any issue over performance or stability. It works smoothly without any effort from my side.

Overall, it saves me time, gives me more control, and just makes consent management much less of a headache. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

What I dislike most is the Backoffice experience, especially as a reseller. It feels quite outdated and could really use a full revamp. The biggest issue for me is that it seems to be built for a single user rather than for a team environment.

For example, there’s no real way to invite other Backoffice users with different roles and permissions. I can’t bring in an engineer with a developer-type role just to help fix or review a configuration. That makes collaboration much harder than it should be. If multiple people need to work on the same account, the only workaround is sharing credentials, which is far from ideal and also creates the risk of one person overwriting another person’s work.

As a reseller, that’s a pretty major weakness. Managing multiple clients usually requires teamwork, and the current Backoffice setup just doesn’t support that well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?

Cookiebot solves the consent management and compliance side of projects, which is a big benefit for me. Without a tool like this, a lot of time can be wasted in discussions with the client’s DPO or legal team about how consent should be handled.

Since Cookiebot already addresses those concerns in a structured way, it helps avoid unnecessary back-and-forth and lets me focus more on the actual implementation and project delivery. In that sense, it saves time and makes client conversations around compliance much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

4/5

What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

Cookiebot by Usercentrics stands out for its ease of setup and reliability. The automatic cookie scanning and categorization save a significant amount of time, especially when managing multiple websites. The interface is intuitive, making it easy to configure consent banners and keep everything compliant with GDPR and other regulations. From a user perspective, the consent experience is smooth and non-intrusive, which helps maintain a good balance between compliance and usability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?

The main downside is that customization can feel a bit limited unless you dive into more advanced settings or custom code. For more complex setups or highly specific design requirements, it may require additional tweaking. Also, pricing can become a factor when managing multiple domains, especially for smaller projects. That said, these are relatively minor trade-offs compared to the overall reliability of the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Cookiebot solves the complexity of managing cookie consent and staying compliant with GDPR and other privacy regulations across multiple websites. Without it, tracking and categorizing cookies, keeping policies updated, and ensuring proper consent handling would require significant manual work and ongoing monitoring.

By automating these processes, it reduces legal risk, saves time for our team, and ensures a consistent implementation across all our sites. It also helps maintain a better user experience by showing clear and well-structured consent options, which supports trust without negatively impacting conversions.
