## Cookiebot by Usercentrics Reviews
  ### 1. Overcharged for months, and they wouldn't produce the evidence

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleksei G. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

As a compliance product, the consent tool does its job. It scans the site, categorises cookies, and serves a working consent banner, and the initial setup was straightforward. If the billing and support matched the product, I would rate it well.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

The billing model, and the handling of a billing dispute. Cookiebot charges by the number of subpages its scanner finds, but the scanner cannot distinguish a genuine page from a filtered view of the same page. A filter plugin on our WordPress site briefly produced several thousand query-string URLs (e.g. /resources/?filter=…), and a scan on 8 March 2026 counted each as a distinct subpage – over 10,000 "pages" on each of two domains that in reality hold well under 1,000. Both were pushed onto the Extra Large tier, and our monthly charge for the two jumped from £50 (2 × £25) to £156 (2 × £78). Under their terms a charge based on that scan may be technically permissible, and I accept that – though it is neither fair nor client-oriented.

What followed is the real complaint. The fault existed only briefly in March and was fixed soon after; it did not persist for months. Yet Cookiebot kept charging the Extra Large tier through April, May and June, with no sign of a fresh scan in any of them. I caught the overcharge only in June. When I raised it, Cookiebot conceded the page count was wrong but offered to refund a single month as a "gesture of goodwill" – it was not goodwill, it was a plain overcharge.

I then asked for the dated scan behind each disputed month, the one document that would prove the charge. I was told the scan was "the exact same" for every invoice and that sending them would be "redundant"; later, that each scan "accurately reflected the site at the time each invoice was generated". Both cannot be true. If the fault was fixed after March, the later counts were not identical to March – so either no fresh scan was run, and the charges rested on no current data at all, or the claim is simply false. By Cookiebot's own rule that pricing reflects the scan at the time of billing, one March scan cannot justify three separate later months. And the tier only ever moved one way: it escalated automatically when the count rose, but never came back down when the real count fell – always in Cookiebot's favour.

In the end Cookiebot refunded only the final month, refused April and May on identical facts, and declared the matter "closed" because I had raised it months later. Raising a charge late does not make it correct, and a vendor does not settle a dispute by announcing it is closed.

Above all, Cookiebot has refused to produce the actual scans for the disputed months – the only evidence that could show whether those charges were ever justified under its own terms. It insists the charges are correct while declining to prove it. A company confident in its billing would simply show the scans. That refusal, more than anything, is why this is a zero from me.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cookiebot handles cookie-consent compliance for our sites — it scans for cookies, shows a consent banner, blocks non-essential cookies until the visitor agrees, and logs consent. That keeps the sites aligned with GDPR/ePrivacy requirements without building it ourselves.
The benefit is real but narrow: the compliance function works. It's undercut by the usage-based billing, which auto-escalated us to a far higher tier off an inflated scan and overcharged us for months.

**Official Response from Hanna Sternkopf:**

> Hello Aleksei,
Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're glad the compliance product itself has been working well for your sites.

Regarding your billing concerns - our pricing is based on the number of subpages detected during scans, and the URL list on which your invoices were based was shared with you by our support team. When query-string URLs are generated by plugins on a site, our scanner counts these as individual pages, which is why we recommend reaching out to support to apply a filter when this occurs so that these URLs are excluded from future scans.
We did refund your most recent invoice and remain open to helping you ensure your setup accurately reflects your actual page count going forward. If you'd like to continue the conversation, our support team is available at support@cookiebot.com.

Kind regards,
The Cookiebot Team

  ### 2. This is a horrible company

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** popupstudio L. | allround grafisch ontwerper / eigenaar, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

The cookie banner works properly, although it's quite standard. The advantage of their pricing system is that they're pricing themselves out of the market, so it'll be over fairly quickly.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

We had a truly terrible experience with this company. Even before we received the scan results/invoices for a series of sites, a huge amount had already been debited from our account. Commercial bot scanners result in unrealistically high invoices. Following their own "complaint handling" recommendation, I contacted support, but this is highly inadvisable... 20 emails later, you're back to square one. Fortunately, there are much better options available.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It should manage CMP on our several sites, however their aggressive bot-scanners are benefiting their own system and not our clients

**Official Response from Review Platforms:**

> Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience with our service did not meet your expectations.

Our scanner is designed to ensure full compliance coverage by identifying all HTML content a visitor could potentially access, including dynamic content, blog posts, embedded media, and even pages that are linked to, such as 404 pages. This approach is meant to help website owners stay compliant across their entire site, but we understand that in some cases, it can result in higher-than-expected page counts.

We understand this can be frustrating, particularly if the process felt unclear. While we strive to make our system as transparent as possible, site-specific configurations can sometimes lead to unexpected results. Your input helps us improve those areas going forward.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Best regards,
The Usercentrics Cookiebot Team

  ### 3. Beware of predatory and fraudulent Price Hikes Despite Good CMP Features

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William F. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Great solution for cookie management, easy to implement and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Predatory and fraudulent. They 6x my price, even though I had the same amount of domains, same amount of sites etc, they just took the liberty to do that by sending an email that went to the spam folder.

I've been in contact with their support who is of no use what so ever. I do suspect that it is an ai answering, hence this review.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having cookies on my site

**Official Response from Yonina Spithoven:**

> Hi William,

  ### 4. Please choose different tool to avoid stress and loss of money

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pawel A. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

It works but I am sure that there are better solutions

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Once you enter a paid plan there is now way to get out, even if you are back on limits that are within free plan. Support is not helping and interface is complicated - there are indeed two separate interface which you need to understand how to navigate in and where what to do

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complying with a law.

**Official Response from Review Platforms:**

> Hi Pawel,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

We’re sorry to hear that your experience has been frustrating. Our goal is to make compliance as straightforward as possible, and we understand that navigating different interfaces and managing subscriptions can sometimes be confusing.

Cookiebot is designed to adapt to a wide range of website setups. We’re actively working on making the user experience more intuitive and transparent.

Your feedback is appreciated — it helps us identify where we need to improve.

Best Regards,
The Usercentrics CookieBot Team

  ### 5. Sh***y customer support

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taavi A. | CEO & Marketing Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Honestly, nothing at all. Their value proposition is the same as other cookie consent providers. They could only differentiate themselves by world-class customer support, and yet they fail to achieve that.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Sh***y customer support. For real. Made a mistake with ordering and now they say they no longer can undo the mistake when the order has finished. No empathy towards their customers. Really bad customer service. Going to migrate all of my client's accounts to a competing platform, because this will hurt my reputation as well when my clients can't get help and support from a service provider like them.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helped to implement the CMP, but the lack of customer support made me change to another service provider.

**Official Response from Michael Cederqvist:**

> Dear Taavi,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for your experience with our customer support. Our goal is to provide the best possible solutions, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations.

If there is anything else we can assist you with, please contact our support team. We are dedicated to addressing your concerns and working towards a resolution.

All the best,
The Cookiebot™ Customer Support Team

  ### 6. Non-complaint with cookie laws

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** arend b. | Site Admin, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2024

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Nothing. They should either start over, or just close their business.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Non-complaint implementation of cookie policy that leaves the client exposed to fines in many jurisdictions.

It has no option to reject all, instead the user has to click every cookie type manually.

Also no way of declining "unclassified" cookies. It should not be the user's problem that the people at Cookiebot haven't gotten around to doing their jobs yet.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None, it just irritated users on my sites so I got rid of them.

**Official Response from Michael Cederqvist:**

> Dear Arend,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with our product. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for our customers, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Our default cookie consent banner includes a "Deny All" button, allowing users to reject all cookies and trackers with a single click. To ensure you have all the information you need to set up our product, please contact our support team, and we will be happy to assist you.

All the best,
The Cookiebot™ Customer Support Team

  ### 7. Terrible customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Naveed R. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Product seems to work well but their fees and cacellation is not easily visable so you can easily miss the charges.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Really bad customer service they have hidden their fees and even if you email them the same day as they charged you, they won't refund which is obviously illegal,

Warning the do not comply with EU/US regulations so watch out

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

User optin using a 3rd Party CMS

**Official Response from Michael Cederqvist:**

> Hi Naveed,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're really sorry to hear about your experience with our customer service.

I understand that the issue may have been resolved, but if it hasn't, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team again. We’ll prioritize your issue to ensure it gets the attention it deserves.

All the best,
The Cookiebot™ Customer Support Team

  ### 8. It works..... may be

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Nothing. I recommend to find anothe vendor

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

We spent 3 weeks to understand why it's not working. We can't get any help from support. not sure if it exist. I never got answers from them. Very POOR documentation. We still have troubles and no feedback from support team.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's not solving problems. It creats problems

**Official Response from Marion Weber:**

> Dear customer,
We sincerely apologize for the delay in receiving assistance and the inadequacy of our documentation. We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible experience, and we recognize that we have fallen short in this case.

Sincerely,
Your Cookiebot Support team

  ### 9. Simply no longer competitive

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Nothing to be honest. I am giving them a 0 out of 10 for my willingness to recommend it to someone.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Really bad UX and limited features while being more expensive than the competition. We cancelled the cookie 3 days into our monthly rolling extension and they still charged us for the whole month while also deleting our account. Why are you charging us for the whole month if you are not going to let the subscription run its full course.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not really much.

**Official Response from Michael Cederqvist:**

> Thank you for your feedback.
I will ensure our product team is aware.
We just started the process of rolling out a new admin interface and signup flow, that hopefully will prevent this from happening in the future.

  ### 10. Bad user experience

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Seemed ok in the beginning and was in a rush to find a solution.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Hard to get it to work with blocking cookies until consent given by user. What I dislike most is that they changed their billing system to only accept certain credit cards with 3DS enabled. If you don't have such a card and although you have been a paying customer for years you are out of luck and get kicked out by them within a week.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

showing those annoying cookie banners that you need to have in the EU

**Official Response from Michael Cederqvist:**

> Thank you for your feedback. We are currently working on expanding the payment options we provide to better accommodate the needs from our customers.
The experience you describe is not the level of service we aim to deliver, and I would encourage you to reach out to our support team if you should reconsider trying our solution using alternative billing methods.

  ### 11. A fraudulent business

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

It was easy to get started. I guess that's how they get you.

**What do you dislike about Cookiebot by Usercentrics?**

Unfortunately this seems like an amateur and/or fraudulent business.
They have incorrectly moved 10+ websites up to a higher plan because they were counting ?utm parameters as separate pages on the websites.
They have acknowledged this for one website and fixed it, but we're still missing the rest that are still being charged for too large a plan.
About a month ago, they told me that they were working to fix it, but since then, they have stopped replying to my emails.

We are now on the third month of them charging more than double of what they should. I've canceled our account and raised a chargeback with the bank.

**Recommendations to others considering Cookiebot by Usercentrics:**

Steer clear of this fraudulent company.

**What problems is Cookiebot by Usercentrics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well, they did solve the problem of too much money in our bank account. But they've now taken care of that very effectively by charging us much more than they were supposed to. So... Good job?!
