**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

We were able to vastly increase our web capabilities with a small amount of set-up!

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

We haven't discovered any downsides yet!

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contentful is incredibly easy to use for technical and non-technical folks. After integrations, we are able to update our site and run experiments without requiring dev time, so we're faster & more efficient.

  ### 3. Solidity and flexibility in the same platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Solid SaaS with continuous improvements and expansion in functionality, which means that the product continues to evolve to meet current-day needs.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

The tooling could be improved to support different platforms (right now it's quite web-technologies oriented).

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improving speed and efficiency of content delivery, unlocking personalized experiences, and speed to market for content-based experiences.

  ### 4. Contentful is an effective content management tool that we use at work for our sites.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Ease of use for non-technical users. Product managers can easily work without bothering engineers.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Lack of dynamic input validation. We need to write a wrapper around contentful to be able to validate dropdown inputs.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

Great content management tool, used by large scale companies.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content management. Lowering time engineers have to spend updating content.

  ### 5. Contentful worked wonders for our static nonprofit site, Hack4Impact.org!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin H. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Above all, the GraphQL API made it super easy to add the *exact* content we want to every area of our site. We just needed to inspect our Content Models, build a query in Contentful's own playground, and copy / paste into the codebase.

We were also very impressed with the user experience. We were able to onboard designers and operation directors in 30 minutes, and they felt confident enough to write new content without coming to the devs. The "Draft" / "Published" states were easy to understand, and the rich text fields were super friendly for complex fields. Couldn't be happier overall!

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Our only "ask" would be template strings for passing values into our text entries. For example, being able to pass a "name" parameter to Contentful, and then using that name throughout a given content model (i.e. This is {name}'s profile picture).

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basically, we needed a place to store information about our university chapters, board members, and all future content in a single place. In doing so, our content needed to be:
a) Super flexible as we add fields, text, flags, and other values
b) Easily edit-able, so designers and product managers could update content with confidence (and without the developer tickets)

In the end, Contentful delivers all of this and more!

  ### 6. Very easy to use!

Contentful makes it easy for our team to create and manage website content without having to worry about messing up the code! Paired with GatsbyJS, they've made website development and management easier than imaginable. Gone are the days of operating a headless WP, Drupal or *insert old tech here*, security updates, and complicated plugins - we use Contentful.

  ### 14. Contentful is great for specific use cases but is not magic.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raz Y. | Co-Founder and CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

I like the ease of creating object models and the CDN performance of serving content once you entered your data. I like that you can create clones of the data quickly for testing etc.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

The complexity of the generated json of the data model, especially for rich text content. Very confusing and optimized for Contentful internal reasons. They are lacking some basic features that are making the content model much harder to manage. A few examples:
1. You can’t embed object models directly in content without making them a shared object first. This is like trying to write a document and embed tables and info boxes, but be forced to create these as separate documents and link them to your document. This grows to a huge problem the larger your content grows.
2. The content management APIs and the content delivery APIs (the creation and editing vs serving content to end users) is slightly different, but just enough to make your code inconsistent and confusing between the two use-cases.
3. Lack of easy ability to apply permissions based data access for end users
4. Different SDKs (namely JS, Java and REST) are not unified enough in concepts.
5. Support is very slow. I had simple “how/why” questions answered months after I asked them.
6. Learning curve of the ask and rendering of content is quite steep.
7. Scheme migration between versions is problematics and required 3rd party tools to track your changes between a dev and production versions of your content object model.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

Do not assume that just by having a headless dynamic CMS it means you have full freedom of your object model. This doesn’t solve for the basic problem that any changes you make to the CMS without updating your front end to respect them can actually break your sites too easily by your content editors.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storing rich text and other types of data model for rendering dynamic content in our front end application. The main benefits are the performance of the CDN backend, the robust url-based APIs to manipulate media urls (manipulation of images in ad-box / real-time for size etc) and the fact we could bootstrap our application without starting with our own backend.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martin P. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The best thing about Contentful is that you can truly use your content anywhere. You name the channel and Contentful will be able to deliver. It’s a welcome departure from the prescribed ‘one size fits all’ solutions you find with many CMS/DXP vendors. Contentful is almost 100% un-opinionated on how you develop your application, removing as many obstacles from the process as possible. This means our clients aspirations of a bespoke, best-in-class customer experience, that scales and adapts when they need it, can be readily achieved

Some of the constructs and concepts can be a bit unfamiliar to those unfamiliar to headless CMS and require training

  ### 25. Contentful has been an absolute game changer for us

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jamie D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Our content creators love the intuitive user interface and how quick it is to update content. Contentful is by far the best in this regard, compared to the other platforms we trialled.

Our technical team loved how quickly there were able to get started, thanks to the great JavaScript SDK and simple content modelling. The Content Delivery API is fast and reliable, it's been a key factor in bringing our average page load time down 70%.

As a NFP with a number of touch points, Contentful has been a game changer. We finally have a single repository for content that all of our sites and apps can pull from.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

I really don't have many complaints but my one bug bear is that I wish the rich text editor had a few more options. We've had to come up with a few workarounds for things like superscript and subscript. It would also be great if we could embed Youtube videos, as you can with the markdown editor.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

If you've decided a headless CMS is the way to go for your project, look no further than Contentful.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we started our project, we had 3 main things we wanted to address:

- Avoid duplication of content across our platforms
- Be less brittle (i.e. allow our content creators to make changes without breaking anything)
- Reduce development overhead

Contentful has exceeded our expectations in meeting all of these requirements, can't speak highly enough about the platform.

  ### 26. Contentful makes publishing and organizing content intuitive.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The user interface makes finding, publishing, and editing the content you need easy.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

The "download" button is right next to the "delete" button on the dropdown menu on images, and I've accidently deleted photos that I can't find again.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's easier to get more team members onboarded because it's so much easier to conceptualize than our last platform.

  ### 27. Reliable and easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Moving data between environments, there's still room for improvement in that area, I don't think the CLI is doing a good job in making it easier to move data between environments

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Static Site generation
Content management by a large marketing team

  ### 29. Contentful Review

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

losing the convenience of WYSIWYG of traditional CMS

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

replacing current headless custom made CMS with contentful which provides out of the box support for modularisation, image CDN, on-the-fly static page generation, etc.

  ### 30. Contentful — Great Support From Their Team

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Our team has really enjoyed the flexibility Contentful gives us in managing our content; as a non-profit without in-house developers, it has given us the freedom to keep updating our content creatively without always needing to hire a contractor. We like how easy it is to preview content in draft mode in QA. It's great to be able to add helper text for different sections so that we can quickly onboard new users. Adding content for additional languages is easy.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Sometimes it is too easy for a user to accidentally change something - but that is probably mostly a matter of training users well & how your space is set up. We would also like to have more content types, but it is possible to purchase those.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

It's a great tool! If building something complicated, make sure you collaborate with developers to know how many content types you will need.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are delivering content to a wide variety of partners through a few different tools, and having many different non-technical staff members collaborate on creating and updating that content. One big benefit has been our ability to target content to certain groups and users through Contentful, and to easily add additional languages.

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The design is excellent, and the interface is user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Nowadays, everything is automated, so have to program every single dynamic detail manually it's not helpfull.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Templates for automated communications.

  ### 36. Decent Content mgmt platform

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Ease of searching for keywords in the platform

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Structure can get quite messy and requires a while to get used to

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storing in-app and email content for our product

  ### 37. API First, extensible headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

There are many thing I like about Contentful. For me, what I like best about Contentful is their commitment to enhancing and maturing the product. I have witnessed significant change of the product since I first started using it in 2016.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Due to Contentful's powerful content modeling capabilities, the web admin UI can become a challenge, especially when your solution involves many models. Happy to say that the admin UI continues to be enhanced and that Contentful has made serious strides forward over the last couple of years.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Primarily, I've leveraged Contentful for channel agnostic experience and content management. In a previous role, the team used Contentful to manage offers and mobile app configs.

  ### 38. Decoupled enterprise tech - most effective for business leaders with go-to-market urgency

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric F. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

For firms with monolithic WCMS software and IT resource dependency, Contentful is designed to co-exist with legacy content and data repositories, and it is so popular that business leaders can design and launch new digital products without being hamstrung by legacy IT.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Contentful product marketing is still more of a "tech developers love us" messaging. Contentful could do a better job of more easily describing how quickly they solve business problems for marketers, sales leadership, HR executives and digital product leaders.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Digital wealth management and investing tools. We've realized super fast go-to-market time frames with helping grow revenue by having digitized services to offer to new markets.

  ### 39. We used Contentful for various small and mid sized projects successfully

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frank R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Setting up a project takes minutes and then you are up and running. Also the environments mechanism makes it very easy to try out things. The UI is very easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

The smaller instances could provide more languages and it would be good to set permissions on content level.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We create marketing microsites and corporate websites.

  ### 40. Contentful helped us build a scalable platform in a few weeks and it keeps growing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicolas B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

From a content mangement side, we like the ease of use of Contentful, its multilingual support and the asset management. Technically speaking, we appreciate the ability to create custom extensions, its seamless integration with Netlify, webhooks and the API documentation and structure.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

We find it has limited validation rules and that the paid plan is quite pricey.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

If you want to build an application without risks of being technically limited in a few months or years, Contentful will provide the needed flexibility and technical performance you’re hoping for. If a functionality does not exist, you can just build it yourself. Performance of the API is also great.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Contentful as our headless CMS allowed us to choose the development stack we wanted: we chosed a Jamstack with Github, Netlify and Nuxt.js. It allows us to develop and test our website very quickly and thanks to pre-rendered pages, the website is blazing fast and consumes lot less C0².

  ### 41. Contentful works well and the setup was really fast

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hugo D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The setup was really fast and we were able to publish our website on 2 weeks.
Also, we are really happy with the interface to add and manage content with a good productivity.
Support teams always have a quick response time and accurate answers.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Regarding payment method, we sometime lacked another options because we had problem with our credit card. But the Billing Support team helped us until we found a solutions, so it was ok.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was faster to implement Contenful CMS than coding our own CMS. This was really important because the delivery time of the project was really short!

  ### 42. Put simply - the platform that will power the future of content

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ted C. | Director Of Strategic Partnerships, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The flexibility of the solution! It plugs and plays so well with other best of breed solutions.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

There is a bit of a learning curve for those familiar with traditional CMS's.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

Invest early in your content modelling skillsets, you want to make sure you get things right from the offset! Leverage Contentful's team & services to support this.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're creating rich, engaging digital experiences on contentful, it's helped our clients accelerate speed to market, and allowed them to truly leverage their content in an omni channel way.

  ### 43. It has allowed me to manage content on various digital platforms to achieve a greater reach

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hans R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

What I like most about this tool is its stability and its user-friendly design, which allows me to use this application quite easily, it allows you to edit sections of our website in a fairly simple way In addition, it increases the efficiency and collaborative work among all the members by allowing us to work in a more efficient way.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

None, it seems like a very complete tool for marketing activities.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has allowed me to manage content on various digital platforms to achieve a greater reach and number of followers on my different social networks and websites.

  ### 44. More than just a content management system —A full API that works flawlessly!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Camilo D. | Full Stack Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

What I like most about Contentful is that we were up and running in minutes. We needed an API to go live but didn't have the time or resources to build everything in house. The second thing that I really love is the caching system. We perform a change and it's live immediately, no need to do anything else, and we love that!

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

For our use, it's missing the possibility to add logic to the fields. We would like to simplify the templates for the editors, so that they focus on the important fields... a little bit of logic would be great for that (if a, then do not display this field, etc).

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

For headless CMSs, it's hard to beat and the free plan is generous

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contentful has allowed us to go live in minutes with a rock-solid API. It would have taken us months to come up with an alternative (we developed a data collection software, and Contentful powers the surveys).

  ### 45. Awesome and super flexible CMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timo M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

I love the flexibility of contentful. It gives you all the freedom that you need to create amazing apps. Working with the Webapp is lots of fun. It's simple to use, fast and you can collaborate with a big team and manage multiple languages in a simple way. In combination with gatsby an amazing stack to build fast, modern sites!

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

With great power comes great responsibility. Since contentful is so flexible, you certainly need some experience to get the most out of it. It takes a bit of time to fully understand all concepts from content types to internationalization but it is worth learning it and the resources on the website (plus learning center) make the learning efficient and fun.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

Make sure to have an experienced enough product team and invest time into understanding the core concepts before starting to build your content structure.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I want fast and user friendly websites and the combination of gatsby + contentful gives me exactly this. Plus, our project is multilingual and we need to be able to add new languages without too much effort and be able to manage content in a bigger team. Another advantage is that we are going to manage several Apps through one CMS.

  ### 46. Easy to Implement, Super Flexible

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Haydn S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

The flexibility of the platform is really remarkable. From content modeling to the editor interface, you can build everything to work with your team. Their CLI tools are also really nice.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

Some of the 3rd party app integrations are a little clunky but otherwise no complaints.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it is at the center of our media business.

  ### 47. Contenful best Headless Solution on the market.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas F. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Easy integration and flexibility to bild a high class user experience.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

The Image Optimization could be a little bit better - but great to have these build in.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We build high availability digital products.

  ### 48. The easiest and the most meaningful CMS to use for big and small projects.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ghaith Z. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

As a Software Engineer, Contentful has been a grace to use on multiple projects with multiple use cases.
The API is straight forward and very easy to use and content structuring and linking to create dynamic and static sites is the most optimized between the varied CMSs that I have used, and it comes with a great interface for content editors and creators.
I am specifically a fan of their APP integration, which makes it so much easier to develop in certain technologies (e.g. Gatsby) and if you're using other 3rd party services for hosting or other uses.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

I have honestly never run into any serious issues while using contentful in the past 3 years.
They have libraries and integrations that will fit most of your development needs

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I run a non-profit organization called Bureaucrazy with a small team, and due to the nature of the services that our organization provides, we needed a solution to be able to update or content rapidly and on the fly, with a very easy to use interface, that's why we landed on Contentful.
We use contentful to structure our data, build up dynamic pages on the site and define conditional content linking.

One of the most important benefits that we have realized is using their new APP feature, which allows us to use easier and quicker to develop technologies and run content updates through their webhooks, automated deployments and run updates with a click of a button, which before considering we're a very small team was very time-consuming.
Contentful were ass well kind enough to provide our non-profit organization with a free plan to use on our site and on our upcoming Webapp

  ### 49. Its just quick and meaningful to get data dynamically in your hands

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ishtdeep H. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Its content models and easy to understand content handling. It simply makes sense of how the data is arranged in a meaningful way. The image and data caching logic are also good. At the client-side, a strong code base is required to get the most out of the contentful. We were fortunate to make this happening in our project.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

More abstraction, markup support within the contentful and proper sorting and filtering strategy. In the content modeling, how one content model can relate to others. In terms of markup support, this was mostly observed during our project development that the markdown support library does not work as expected so we need overriding to get how it looks in the contentful preview window.

Proper sorting and filtering in terms of datasets creation time. Usually, if a huge amount of data has been added in one day. I need to go and look at every content model and can't find what's been added in that one day.

Another problem, in terms of logging the changes done on a particular record. Sometimes, 100 people change data in a day. I cannot see who has changed what and no logs or history is there in the content model or data side. There are different scenarios where we face issues, in a large team of developers and testers when they start changing, some should keep an eye on what is changing. That way we faced problems during the whole process of development.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

It's a very cool and fastest CMS I have ever worked with. The concept of spaces and content modeling is pretty much required in most of the organizations and there are different stakeholders that can get the benefit from the way contentful works.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of dynamic data. Mostly client-side applications want to get rid of data handling. Contentful is a great savior in this. All the configurations, data handling and quick response from the backend help client-side applications to get faster. Syncing is also good. Keeping applications up and running. However most of the time it's difficult to understand the error handling if something is changed and the client-side starts getting crashed.

  ### 50. Contenful is the best CMS for the modern applications

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Contentful?**

Contentful makes data modeling extremely easy. It takes minutes to build a database schema to create a new app. I love how I can manage all the content in one place and distribute it to all sorts of systems.

**What do you dislike about Contentful?**

While they offer a generous free plan, the pricing could get expensive pretty fast depending on your usage.

**Recommendations to others considering Contentful:**

If you are migrating from legacy systems like Wordpress, I highly encourage you to test out headless CMS. I think Contentful is a leading expert in the market and it is extremely easy to implement.

**What problems is Contentful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are creating a content-rich application, Contentful allows us to manage content in one place and distribute to all sorts of different platform. The API calls are really fast and the documentation of each language is very well documented.
