Constructor Calcularis is adaptive math software for primary school students in grades 1 to 4, including children with dyscalculia. Students build number sense and arithmetic in short practice sessions they work through on their own, while teachers follow each child's progress. Calcularis trains number processing and all four operations across the number ranges 0 to 10, 0 to 20, 0 to 100, and 0 to 1,000. It shows every number in several ways at once, as a quantity, a word, a digit, and a position on a 3D number line, with color-coded place value. A student model tracks which tasks each child has mastered, repeats the types of task a child still needs, and skips the rest, with no setup by the teacher. Feedback is immediate, and children are guided step by step through their mistakes. Units last 15 to 20 minutes and can be done at school or at home, and children earn animals for a zoo they build as they progress. In the Coach dashboard, teachers see a class overview, learning time, progress through the number ranges, and the status of each skill for every learner, and they manage reports, learning settings, and licenses. Calcularis was developed by researchers at ETH Zurich and the University Children's Hospital Zurich. In a randomized study of 67 children with developmental dyscalculia in grades 2 to 5, those who trained with Calcularis improved more in arithmetic and number-line estimation than a waiting group, and the gains held three months later (Kohn et al., Frontiers in Psychology, 2020). It runs in the browser on computers and tablets.
