"A unconventional approach to conventional estimating."

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

OST has a quick setup process for each product. It provides the ability to calculate the BOM right out of the box in ways our unconventional construction requires. The software also allows us to integrate our building systems into an automated interface. Its speed in generating quantities that are not typical gets us too a bid much quicker. I love the support I get when questions arise where the knowledge base does not answer. Also, the integration and user interface between Quick Bid and OST is so seamless it reduces all the extra time of calculating prices. Yes, I feel that OST costs are a value in what it provides and the time it saves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

The only area that would be helpful would be the ability to create custom keyboard shortcuts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our problem before OST was the time of getting an estimate back to a client. With the software we can do takeoffs without creating our own drawings in order for our in house estimating team to get a bid our. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Feature-Rich and Powerful Tool for Precision Takeoffs"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I appreciate how raw and feature-rich OST is. I enjoy that nothing is overly simplified, and there is a genuine learning curve to the app. This means that once you master all its features, you can perform a takeoff more quickly and with greater precision than others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

One aspect I dislike is that the program is quite heavy, so it needs a computer that's better than average to run smoothly. I also find the occasional lag frustrating. Additionally, the OST boost feature doesn't work very well unless all the necessary information is contained on a single page, which is rarely the case. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using OST has significantly reduced the amount of time I spend on take offs, which is crucial, especially when I have multiple estimates to prepare in a single day. Time is a valuable resource, and OST helps me manage it more efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review, Vinny, and for calling out what you appreciate about OST being “raw” and feature‑rich. We know there’s a real learning curve, and it means a lot to hear that once you’ve mastered those tools, you’re able to complete takeoffs faster and with higher precision, especially when you’re juggling multiple estimates in a day.

You’re also right to point out the tradeoffs. OST is a resource‑intensive application because of the depth of features it provides, so it is optimized for newer Windows environments like Windows 11 and above. Our team is continually working to reduce lag where we can, while still supporting the advanced workflows power users rely on. On Takeoff Boost, your feedback is spot on: it works best today when the key information it needs is contained on a single page, and complex, multi‑page scenarios can limit its effectiveness. We’re actively iterating on Boost and our next takeoff experience to make automated assistance more flexible over time, and input like yours helps us focus on the right improvements. Thanks again for your review, Vinny.

"Easy and Accurate"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

It is very easy and convenient to use. I can enter the type of areas and the number I want for a particular product, and it gives me accurate quantities. Multiplying the same items is also simple, and it generates a table that’s easy to relate to, instead of having to create it in a different software. Scaling feels almost magical too—you just need to know the scale and enter the input. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

Though it generates table, I would like it to be more specific and it should have a background of it's own so that can be differentiated from the drawings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use it for quick quantity takeoffs. It generates areas and modules based on the data I feed in, which makes my work much easier. Saves a lot of time and accuracy saves money as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Ease of USE!"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

The ease of use and being able to dive right in—"On-Screen Takeoff has completely transformed how we do estimates. It's incredibly intuitive and easy to learn, even for new team members. The point-and-click measurements for linear, area, and counts are accurate and fast, and the recent AI-powered Takeoff Boost saves us hours on repetitive tasks. Customer support is excellent, with helpful training resources. We've won more bids with confidence and with far less overtime. Highly recommend for any construction professional doing takeoffs!" Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

Have not really found anything as of yet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

Onscreen Takeoff has completely changed how we bid jobs. What used to take us 12–16 hours now takes 3–4. The color-coded markups, instant quantity updates, and the fact that everyone on the team sees the exact same takeoff in real time has eliminated almost all measuring mistakes. Best decision we ever made for our estimating department. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Takeoffs That Boost Efficiency"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

The ability to overlay conditions, track changes, and organize takeoffs with precision saves hours on every project. I also appreciate how easy it is to review quantities, export data, and keep everything consistent across multiple drawings. It reduces errors, boosts confidence, and genuinely streamlines the estimating process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

The UI feels old‑school compared to newer estimating platforms. Some menus and workflows aren’t as streamlined as they could be, which slows down navigation when you’re working through dozens of drawings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

No more rulers, scaling mistakes, or re‑measuring drawings. Digital takeoff tools ensure consistent, accurate quantities, which directly reduces costly estimating errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Essential Tool for Streamlined Production Tracking"

4.5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

This program has proven to be incredibly useful for tracking production, especially with its feature that allows us to physically mark completions and percentage completion on every item in our takeoff. I use it most days and really appreciate being able to pick up exactly where I left off, even when I don't have an internet connection. Since our company adopted this software, our work has become much easier, as integrating this production tracking system is far more efficient than relying on traditional paper and pen takeoff methods. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

If it were possible to use this program on an iPad instead of having to carry a laptop while walking around my project sites, it would be a significant improvement in terms of ease of use. This would be especially beneficial if foremen and field personnel could access and utilize it directly themselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

The software has addressed my organizational challenges by compiling all my takeoff information in a neat, digital format. I can easily access any sheet from my project whenever I need it. It also enables me to monitor progress on a weekly basis and compare production from one week to the next. By allowing us to adjust element conditions and pricing, we can track construction more precisely, which helps us assess material spending more accurately and break down labor costs for each individual item. Thank you for such a thoughtful review, Samuel, and for sharing how you use OST to track production, mark completion and percent complete, and keep everything organized in a clean digital record. It’s great to hear that you can pick up right where you left off and that moving away from paper-and-pen takeoff has made it easier to estimate.

Your point about using OST on an iPad instead of carrying a laptop around the job site is very well taken, especially for foremen and field teams who would benefit from direct access in the field. Today, OST is a Windows desktop application, but our product team is actively investing in a new takeoff solution that is being designed to be responsive on tablets and iPads, so it’s much easier to use on site. Feedback like yours helps us prioritize those kinds of field-friendly improvements, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Thanks again for your review!

"Powerful Customization and Seamless Bidding Integration"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What is most helpful is the ability to create and customize my takeoff conditions and assign them to groups and sections. Also having OST in conjunction with Quickbid is a very powerful way to create a bid. And once I have bid something, I can track plan changes fairly easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What I dislike the least is handling a masonry takeoff, which I sometimes have to do. Specifically CMU walls and such items. There is a lot of customizing I have to do and often enough it doens't work the way I want it to. Like rebar takeoffs are very easy or accurate.

Another dislike, which is linked to masonry takeoffs, is the inability to have multiple scale on the same page and/or split horizontal v vertical scales. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

They recently created a split area tool that allows us to split an area takeoff into multiple pieces, very helpful when manipulating existing takeoffs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

[Editedit](https://www.g2.com/survey_responses/on-screen-takeoff-review-12001209/official_response/edit)

Thank you for sharing how you’re using OST, especially around customizing conditions, grouping them, and pairing OST with Quick Bid to build your bids and track plan changes. That’s exactly the type of workflow those tools are designed for, and it’s great to hear the new split area tool has been helpful when you need to break out existing takeoff.

On the masonry side, your feedback is really valuable. CMU walls and related items can be more complex to model, and it sounds like you’re running into limitations with how your custom setup behaves compared to something more straightforward like rebar. We’d love to better understand your current CMU workflow and what “doesn’t work the way you want it to,” so our team can look at where we can improve. Would you be open to chatting with someone on the product team about this? Please email customeradvocacy@constructconnect.com for more details.

Regarding scale, you’re right to call out the constraint: OST isn’t architected to support multiple scales on the same page or different horizontal vs. vertical scales, so that’s not something the program can handle today. We know that can be a real limitation for certain masonry plans, and feedback like yours helps our product team understand where those constraints are most impactful as we continue refining the product. Thank you again for your review, Reed!

"Accurate Takeoffs and Efficient Workflow with OST, With Some Suggestions For Growth"

5/5

What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I use OST for lath and plaster takeoffs, which can be very detailed and have a lot of different components. One of the most useful features is the ability to have a quantity two and quantity three all in one condition, it is efficient and leaves my takeoff looking clean and easy for the field to understand. Using the layers feature is also helpful in isolating certain aspects of my takeoff so I can check their accuracy quickly and provide specific material layouts to the field. Overall, my takeoffs can be extremely accurate, which allows for me and my team to know our exact costs and manipulate profit margins to land jobs and stay profitable in the process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

There aren't many downsides to using OST, although there are some features that I think can be improved. One of the things that impacts me the most is the measurement tool's tendency to auto-snap to measurements and other linear condition takeoffs on an elevation. For example if I am trying to measure a building height in order to figure out a hidden wall's height the measurement will snap into a bunch of different sections because I also have an expansion joint takeoff where I am trying to measure. While I did reach out to OST and request a feature, no progress has been made and the only solution I was offered was to turn all my other layers off. I think another feature that could be useful in saving time is an auto-scale feature, currently we rename and rescale all our plan sets. I know the technology is out there, it just hasn't yet made it to this program, I think in that regard OST is a little behind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?

OST has been solving some bug fixes and is constantly updating the program, it continues to work better and become more refined. They are also constantly updating their customer support and other helpful tools for customer use, it's extremely beneficial to me to have a question answered in seconds with thorough explanations through their website. They also offer in person trainings which I attended with a member of my team, I learned so much about OST and how to improve our team's implementation of the program into our work. And I could tell that each member of their support team was genuinely working toward providing the best customer experience possible and was dedicated to helping out the users, not just their bottom line. Thank you for such a detailed review and for sharing how you use OST for lath and plaster takeoffs, especially with Quantity 2/3 and layers to keep things clean for the field and accurate for your team. It’s also great to hear that ongoing updates, quick answers through our help resources, and the in‑person training have made a real difference for you and your team.

On the measurement behavior, you’re right that auto‑snap can sometimes get in the way when you’re working on detailed elevations or trying to measure behind other linear takeoff. You can reduce some of that behavior by adjusting or disabling Snap Angle in the Options menu, but today, linears are still designed to break when drawn over other linears, and there isn’t a setting to fully turn that off yet. Our product team is actively looking at improvements to measurement tools based on feedback like yours. On auto‑scale, we agree this is an important time‑saver: Takeoff Boost already includes auto‑scale for many plan sets, so we’re working to close that gap you’ve called out. Thanks again for your review, Angelina!
