What do you dislike about Constant Contact?
I have been a customer and user of Constant Contact for many years, and I'm sorry to say that I'm going elsewhere, in spite of the significant hassle of switching. There are several reasons:
1. Constant Contact seems to be systematically dismantling a program that used to be effective, flexible and easy to use. Their totally rebuilt user interface removed a lot of very useful features. For example, on the campaigns list, they turned a set of links into a drop-down menu, thus turning a one-click to a click-slide-click. And they did this in a way that doesn't even save space. They removed the little thumbnail image from the same list, making it much more time consuming to create a new message using an old one as a template. On the page where you select the template for a new message, they took out a whole set of useful search tools, replacing them with a single search box. The problem is: that search box doesn't really work. I typed "2 column" into that search box, and it returned NOTHING. Later, as I scrolled down the page, I came across a template NAMED "2 column." What exactly is being searched? Finally, they're now switching away from an editor that would allow the user to directly edit the html code. This will make it impossible to fix the little glitches that seem to get into every message (margins, type style and size, etc.).
2. The company was purchased last year by Endurance International Group, which resulted in a 15% staff cut. This has not helped their customer service or their product development. They have become extremely non-responsive. Their method of evaluating customer feedback can't tell the difference between a truly urgent matter (such as you just took away a functionality we relied on), and a trivial matter (like could you let me put emojis in my subject line).
3. For all this trouble, Constant Contact charges more than twice what their main competitors charge, and that's without any automation.
4. According to market share analysis (from datanyze.com) I've read, people are leaving Constant Contact en masse. I've resisted this because it's such a hassle to switch your contact list from one of these companies to another. But they keep piling up the stupidity, so we've now given up and are moving to MailChimp.
