We reviewed several companies by attending countless demos and conducting hours of research to determine what configurator would meet our needs best. To be frank, the initial demos put most of the configurators we reviewed on a level playing field. After doing more research and asking more questions from other users, we requested all companies to dive in and show us the "nuts and bolts" of the admin side of the configurator. When we pushed the other companies to show us something with a little bit of complexity, they stumbled. We knew we wanted a tool that was easy to use and didn't require you to have a programming background and this is where Configure One excelled. We knew the true test would be once we started the implementation process and so far it has been going great. We couldn't have asked for a better implementation team from Configure One! They have been awesome to work with and their ability to grasp the complexity of our product and give us direction on how to write some of the rules has been astonishing. We are now live and things are going well! **What do you dislike about Configure One Cloud?** So far, there has been very little that we have disliked. There are some areas where we have seen some opportunities of enhancing the software and adding functionality that sometimes is not as user friendly as it could be. Configure One has taken our suggestions very seriously and we've already seen some of these enhancement integrated in the core software. On a side note, our evaluation process was lengthy and took over 3 years. During that time, we went through many demos with Configure One and others. We noticed new functionality in the Configure One demos...however we didn't notice any enhancements in the other demos we did. This was further proof that we knew they were committed to their product and the future. **Recommendations to others considering Configure One Cloud:** The main thing I would tell potential customers is don't underestimate the need for clean or organized data when implementing. We ran into quite a few issues implementing because we didn't always have clear information from our engineering and sales departments. Having this information and the full buy-in from all key players will greatly speed up your implementation process. **What problems is Configure One Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** Fire trucks are very complex and we had several main items that we are addressing with Configure One. 1. Increasing Quote Accuracy 2. Decreasing Quoting Turnaround time. 3. Getting tribal knowledge programmed into a system 4. More accurate BOM's 5. Being able to present a polished proposal package. 6. And many others.... We have future plans to integrate to CRM and ERP and we hope to realize additional benefits once those integration are made. ### 3. Based on my experience it is not so complex to become an admin of the tool with valid training sessions, it also drives standardization and harmonization thru different businesses around the world and it acts as unique platform for multiple sub-processes within the Lead-to-Order parent process. It has eliminated technical errors associated with manual entries, and has enabled us to reach our rep network with ease. As with any software, generally with flexibility comes complexity and at first the software can seem daunting, but once you become familiar with what tools are available there aren't too many problems this software cannot solve. **What do you dislike about Configure One Cloud?** My only dislike with the software was the learning curve. I would say for most people who come from an IT background and have experience in HTML or javascript, you should have no problems picking it up. However if you're not familiar with these programming languages, using the software to its full potential and tapping in to some of the advanced features could be limited. **Recommendations to others considering Configure One Cloud:** One mistake we made, was not having the proper people attend the initial training in Chicago. Of the 3 team members we chose, only 1 (myself) is left working on the project. I wish we had given it more thought as to who will be managing all aspects of the entire project. The entire setup and administration has fallen all on me, and it would be nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of :) Do not be discouraged if you have to 'build or setup' a product again. It has been our experience that after developing a product and using it, we would often come up with a better way to setup and build the product framework which allowed for easier additions and modifications to the logic in the future. A big part of this was using Global products. I believe this is part of the natural life cycle in the devlopment world. Once you get a basic product setup and working it is not uncommon to see holes, or areas for improvement. We have gone through a few iterations on how we setup our products and I believe this is normal. **What problems is Configure One Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Configure One as more of a technical specification builder for our industry. Each configuration may have 100+ specifications that need to be met, and without the configurator it is easy to miss or forget some of these specific requirements. By using rules and logic, we can eliminate the risk of making a wrong choice for the required application. We also use Concept to perform complex calculations to properly size a product for a given application. The complexity of these calculations has proved there is not much you cannot do with Configure One. It has been a huge game changer for us and our customers. ### 6. Pack you patience, as a good CPQ product takes time and testing. Even as we make yearly changes/updates/improvements, their customer support responds very quickly and is extremely helpful. **What do you dislike about Configure One Cloud?** The amount of programming involved to write some special rules for circumstances that rarely happen lend us not to spend the time & resources to write those unique rules. Then, when our sales department needs quotes for those unique and special filters they get frustrated because they are used to getting quotes in seconds but instead need to follow the old hand quoting process that takes 2-3 days. **Recommendations to others considering Configure One Cloud:** I highly suggest fully defining the exact specifications of your project to prevent scope creep from different departments within your organization, constantly changing their minds about what they want. **What problems is Configure One Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our custom filter quoting process used to take 2-3 days even just to quote very simple filters because multiple departments each needed to do their required part. Configure One helped our company create a filter configurator program that now allows our sales department to get quotes for our customers instantly for approximately 80% of our filters. Also, if our customer is ready to place an order, with a few more simple clicks our sales department can promote that part from a concept in the configurator program into an actual part with a unique engineering drawing where it is assigned a part number, and then it integrates the quoted routing & BOM automatically into our company’s ERP system. ### 11. It is robust, flexible and fairly intuitive. I have used a few different CPQ tools over the past 20 years and I haven't seen one that can offer Quote to Order, Graphics and ease of use like Configure One can. Over the past two years, Configure One has invested a lot of effort and resources into the evolving CPQ landscape, bringing in a best in class visual 3D configurator (integrated into it's software), developing towards a stunning UI/UX and adding a lot of much needed functionality into their core software. They listen and engage their customers and promote active feedback. Great job! **What do you dislike about Configure One Cloud?** The robust nature of this platform (that is, not being tied to a specific ERP system) meant that the software needed to be extended significantly to make it work for our businesses. This makes the CPQ system compatible with our business processes and our ERP system, but will need to be rebuilt when we want to upgrade to the next release. Their newest release is built to be more portable, and we shouldn't have to re-build all of the extensions next time. **Recommendations to others considering Configure One Cloud:** Make sure your product lines are cleanly defined and don't underestimate the effort required to build the configurations. If you're planning on doing the configuration work in parallel to an ERP implementation, expect the ERP implementation team to want data to submit, which will be coming from Configure One. **What problems is Configure One Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our product line is fairly complex, it needs to be configured to ensure the components are compatible with each other.
