  ### 1. Efficiency or Exclusion? The Pros and Cons of Apple Compressor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brent H. | Audio / Video Engineer, E-Learning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

One of the biggest benefits of using Compressor is the ability to send all, or even just a portion, of your video project directly from Final Cut Pro. Because it performs background rendering, you can keep working in Final Cut without having to stop and wait for an export to finish. This seamless integration has significantly improved my workflow, making it much easier to keep multiple projects moving at the same time.

What I like most is the level of control it offers. Once you export your video files to Compressor, you can choose from a wide variety of pro-level presets or fully customize the settings to match your exact needs. You can even send multiple clips to Compressor while you’re still editing; once you’re finished, you simply hit “Start Batch” and let the program render every clip with a single click.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

However, there are some notable drawbacks to consider including platform limitations and hardware dependency.

Compressor is only available for macOS. Since comparable programs are offered for both Mac and Windows, Compressor can feel restrictive in "mixed" workplaces where collaborators use different operating systems.

Depending on the specific Mac you’re using, some batch renders can take an inordinate amount of time to complete, particularly on longer or high-resolution projects.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Despite these hurdles, Compressor makes the final delivery process feel effortless. By automatically generating web-ready versions for various social media sites, it takes the guesswork out of time management. For any Final Cut Pro user looking to professionalize their output and reclaim their editing time, Compressor remains an essential tool in the kit.

  ### 2. Compressor provides a reliable environment for producing lightweight, high-quality files.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I use Compressor often to produce sharp 1080p videos in surprisingly small sizes, thanks to H.265—perfect for sharing via email or LMS platforms. With custom presets and smooth Final Cut Pro integration, my workflow stays simple, fast, and fully within the Apple ecosystem.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

While Compressor is easy to use for standard compression tasks, navigating more advanced features like metadata editing or subtitle management can be less intuitive and requires some extra steps.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor’s an effective solution for compressing and converting educational video content. Its balance of customization, ease of use, and integration makes it well-suited even for simple workflows that still demand professional-quality results—especially where bandwidth or file size is a constraint.

  ### 4. Great for converting footage to different formats!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I use Compressor to convert footage to different formats for multiple uses, such as for DVD's, Blurays, editing, Youtube etc. It's very easy to use, can be used without Final Cut Pro or with it - you can even send it footage right from FCP! I mostly use it for encoding footage from different sources, various codecs, formats and FPS timings to footage that works perfectly with FCP to match my timeline and help the Mac work with it easier and more smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Nothing I dislike - it does what it is designed for, and does it very well!

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mostly use it for encoding footage from different sources, various codecs, formats and FPS timings to footage that works perfectly with FCP to match my timeline and help the Mac work with it easier and more smoothly. It speeds up the whole editing process and helps Final Cut Pro work more smoothly with the footage.

  ### 5. Video compression for proffesionals

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam K. | Team Leader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Mac Compressor is a fantastic software tool that brings a wide range of benefits to users in the field of multimedia production and compression. One of the standout features of Mac Compressor is its ability to handle batch processing effectively. This means you can compress multiple files simultaneously, saving significant time and effort when dealing with large quantities of media files.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Mac Compressor's pricing can be seen as an additional expense for users who are already heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. As Apple users already pay a premium for Apple devices and software, the cost of Mac Compressor might be perceived as an unnecessary burden, especially when similar features can be found in other Apple software or third-party applications.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It offers batch processing capabilities, enabling me to compress multiple files simultaneously. This feature is particularly beneficial for handling large volumes of media files, saving substantial time and effort by compressing files in one go instead of individually.

  ### 6. A Powerful and Easy-to-Use Video Compressor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Asad N. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

The batch encoding feature is a game-changer, saving vast amounts of time when working with multiple files. It's as simple as drag, drop, and compress. And the built-in presets for various platforms, such as YouTube and Vimeo, ensure that your videos always meet the optimum specifications.

Another standout feature is the software’s speed. Apple Compressor performs its tasks swiftly, making the most of your machine's capabilities without compromising the quality of the output.

Apple has truly managed to maintain a balance between simplicity and sophistication in Compressor. It's an indispensable tool for video professionals and enthusiasts alike, continually proving its worth with every update

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Compressor is only available for macOS. This limitation can be a significant downside for users who work on different operating systems, especially Windows or Linux.
Although Compressor offers presets for various platforms, the list isn't exhaustive. Users may find it inconvenient when they need to manually set parameters for platforms that aren't included in the presets.
Troubleshooting issues can be a bit challenging, especially when the community forums don't have the answers.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

High-quality videos often come with large file sizes, which can be problematic for storage and distribution. Compressor addresses this issue by allowing users to reduce the size of their video files without sacrificing a noticeable amount of quality. Sometimes, videos need to be in different formats for various purposes. For example, a video might need to be in a web-friendly format for online streaming but in a higher-quality format for local presentations. Compressor allows users to convert videos to a wide array of formats, making it easier to use the same video in multiple contexts. Each platform (like YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) has its preferred video settings for optimal playback. Compressor includes presets for various platforms, making it easier to prepare videos for specific destinations.

  ### 7. The best app I've used for rendering multiple file formats for batch rendering

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean G. | Staffing Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Integration with Final Cut Pro and Motion makes rendering projects with various format requirements (H.264, Uncompressed, Video + Subtitle track, etc.) streamlined and intuitive. You can automate workflows easily by dragging and dropping presets into the Batch window. Compressor is a one-time cost as of this review, so you're not tied to a subscription with DRM.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Compressor is a Mac-only solution, so if your workflow primarily consists of multiplatform or Windows-only applications, you lose out on a lot of the integrations most Apple products are known for.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor alleviates the hassle of manually exporting various audio, video, and subtitle tracks formats by combining multiple render options into a single Batch. Once you've defined your render requirements, it's as simple as exporting the Batch, automating the entire process for you.

  ### 8. Review of Apple's Compressor- An Intuitive Platform for Video Conversions

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Safety | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

What is most unique about Compressor is that the platform offers many different formats for video conversion. From mp4, Quicktime movie, and even WAV files, the designers at Apple took the users viewpoints to heart in creating a wonderful software that delivers every time.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

There is nothing not to like about Compressor. I have had the opportunity to use Compressor now for more than a decade. What is unique about Compressor is that it alleviates the concern of quality loss when converting a file into a different format. I have never been disappointed in its about and level of processing.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor's highlight is it's ability to maintain your video quality. This is particularly important when you need to convert into a certain format that your platform only accepts. It has continuously delivered while maintaining its consistency. What I also see as a huge benefit is that is an a video and AUDIO converter. It takes into consideration smart devices and the internet and has specific setting for iPhone, YouTube, and web streaming.

  ### 9. A must have and powerful tool for mac users

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanish J. | Sales Operations Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

The best part about it is the low number of crashes I have faced while using this. Other compressing, encoding and exporting software I have used aren't the most stable on the M2 macs. This one always gets the job done and supports rendering of multiple files all at once.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The worst bit is obviously the price. It should have been bundled with their final cut pro software but it isn't. One needs to buy and install it from the app store in order to use and integrate it into their workflow. The user interface isn't the most intuitive as well.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor works as advertised for encoding/rendering videos in a wide variety of file formats and also frees up final cut for other work

  ### 10. All-around best for the outputs I need

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brad H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I really like that the Apple compressor tool is built in and feels like a native app. (i may be mistaken and it might actually be a native app). Either way, it integrates with the MAC OS and in turn everything that I use for audio and video, making it an easy and streamlined process for manipulating files, and exporting them into the different formats that I need.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I have found that even though there are some really great output options, some of the more obscure filetypes are not available and i end up having to search the web to find other options to get those files compressed or changed.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There have been many times that I have had to get a video/audio file into a different format for further processing and Apple Compressor has been the tool of choice for getting those files converted!

  ### 11. Compressor is a must have for FCP users

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rajat H. | DevOps engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Lots of quick-pick export formats. Can do batch exports and conversions. Can export from Final Cut Pro to Compressor, start an export and then close FCP while Compressor works by itself in the background.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Can be a bit slow at times. Always seems to max out resource usage and triggers the fans on my iMac. The interface is a bit dated.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor helps me to quickly export my Final Cut Pro productions to YouTube 4K format for uploading to my channel. Compressor is nicely integrated into FCP making it easier to use and export videos for viewing pleasure.

  ### 12. A fast encoder that is fairly priced and handy to have on hand

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor is the fastest at encoding files on M1 and M2 chips with some valuable features. The software is fairly priced for what it is and is a one time cost instead of requiring a subscription like other encoders. Good for creating smaller files with split tracks or proxy files.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Some features are lacking when compared to Adobe Media Encoder concerning segment marking and including captions in exports. More suited for online and streaming content for exports than broadcasting.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor is able to create smaller files to use for editing or sending for review faster when using a Mac M1 or M2 chip than other encoding software. It is much easier to create files with split track audio than other software options available.

  ### 13. A compressor for Mac to export your videos in whatever setting you want

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anshul S. | Video Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I can export my videos in any format like h.264 or h.265 with this app in mac book pro and also can render multiple files at the same time without any hassle to worry about.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The software is not free and you have to pay extra 50 dollars to get this from the app store , it should be bundled with final cut pro purchase to reduce the cost of usage

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I told , it helps me to export my video in any size and any codec like h.264 or prores, as not everybody uses mac and ,mov files might not work in every one's laptop when working with clients

  ### 14. Fast

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Ease of use and fast, integrates well with Final Cut Pro

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Needs more presets for formats. Sometimes it crushes

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

compress to a manageable size without lowering quality

  ### 15. The ease of use could have been a little better

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jed A. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I loved that it made my work easier and used AI integration to automate tasks. It eliminated a lot of the mindless research tasks that one has to do and provided simple solutions

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It took me a long time to understand the software and it's aplications. The AI component was unclear and I had to use a few youtube tutorials to fully make use of the product

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reseach and analysis. It takes care of finding relevant data and presenting them is structured way

  ### 16. Basically does it all!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt W. | Youth Pastor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Options, options, options. When it comes to video/audio compression this app really comes in handy.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Tho overall fairly easy to use, there is a bit of a learning curve as you get started. The user interface could definitely be more intuitive .

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

compressing video, and doing it quickly with lots of options

  ### 17. the software works as advertised, and gets the job done.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pouria E. | sales associate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

i like being able to Easily view, adjust and export closed captions, with the ability to import caption files — even in multiple languages which is great for my use

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

the interface and processing times could be faster as it takes a while compared to other application

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it solves the problem of transcoding audio and video files into a variety of file formats.

  ### 18. A powerful compression tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edward L. | Senior Director, SEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

It's super easy to work with. If you are in an environment with a heavy dependency on shared storage, having a render farm setup can really speed things up when you're scaling across multiple projects.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It can be quite slow which is sometimes frustrating. Doesn't allow access to some of the more rudimental encoding options. Can get better subjective visual quality at similar file sizes.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor is ideal for transcoding for delivery because of how easy it is to make a batch and set up watch folders. This particular function is a favourite of mine.

  ### 19. Double check that you need it

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Automations like the new Watch Folder feature can save time.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

In my experience, it's not always quicker or better using Compressor. We were using it for all FCP renderings and had an issue in which an Apple support engineer suggested we might be better not using it.

We also found fairly early on that setting it up on multiple computers to share the rendering load didn't save much more time than it cost. Generally, you're better just going for a coffee.

As with several Mac Pro apps on my fully loaded 15" MBP just having Compressor running causes the fan to start up.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At present, to be honest, Compressor is just there if we particularly need a specific file conversion. We generally just use FCP default renderings. It is however very useful to have it there in case a client or project requires a particular format.

  ### 20. Speed Up your Video Editing Workflow with Compressor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shiv Shikhar S. | Tech Blogger, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor is used with Final Cut Pro if we want a video from a project for multiple platforms with different settings and resolution. It is so easy and simple to use. We can just send the whole editing project to the compressor in just one click.
Drag and Drop the pre-defined presets or just make one according to your specific needs and then use it on your video by dragging and dropping. We can apply multiple presets on a single video and start the batch conversion/export in few simple steps.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

There are very less options to customize audio and video while using Final Cut Pro. Also, you are limited to the output export settings in Final Cut. This can be improved so that users get a more diverse control over their video formats and audio formats.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor is quite useful when we are working for a client who demands video and audios in various formats depending upon the platform they want to publish the video on. Compressor saves a lot of time and increases productivity by freeing and making Final Cut Pro available for other works simultaneously.

  ### 21. Compressor for the win

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danny G. | Media Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like how the software is able to allow us to have additional outputs when using in conjunction with the Final Cut and Apple Motion versions. There are multiple outputs that you may use for the compressor. Just make sure that you select the correct one.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I wish there was a way to do more of a customization of the outputs for audio and video when using with Final Cut. You are limited to the outputs on compressor that you currenlty have in FC. At times depending ont he project you want to get a little more settings and I believe that is coming in the future.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Make sure you understand the settings for the outputs that you require. If you get it wrong you will lose valuable time in the rendering process just to discover you picked the wrong output format.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This gives us a way of having more outputs than what comes available with the other Apple video softwares. We use this with Apple Motion and Final Cut to get the most out of our video editing.

  ### 22. It’s a really good way to get a quality version of your vídeo with low height

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafa V. | Tutor Excellence Program, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Easy to use, creating your presets and exporting, really fast

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Price, a little bit high. Higuer than order options in market

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Perfect if you use other Apple Software like Final Cut Pro or Motion

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simplify The exporting of Final Cut Pro Files in a convience way

  ### 23. Compressor for the win

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I love how easily this software is compatible with Final Cut and Apple Motion and the process of integration. AS far as user friendly goes this software has it all. The importing of files and the arrangement make it very easy navigate and get the correct compression and export settings that will work with any sofware or device.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I wish there was more of a way to customize the outputs within the compressor setting when using with Final Cut. You are tied to the same settings that are avaialble in your final cut settings. This makes it slightly more difficult in the long run but still manageable.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Make sure that you understand the settings that you need for the export process. There are tons of options, and if you pick the wrong one, then you will waste valuable time during the render process to discover that it isn't working for you on your software or device.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This allows me to use more outputs when trying to create videos in Apple Motion. Sometimes you are limited in Motion on the outputs and it creates larger files sizes. However when you use the compressor it doesn cut down on the file size although it takes just a little more time for the rendering process since you are using other software.

  ### 24. Compressor works

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Camry G. | Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like that the newest version of compressor works so well with option and final cut. It makes it so much easier to be able to save the videos straight out of the software into various formats if desired.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The one thing that's a drawback that I see is when the videos are saved at times it doesn't compress down as far as I would like. The older versions of final cut would automatically compress the videos into smaller sizes. But what you give up for file size you save in render speed.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This gives us the ability to quickly choose a format and get to saving and moving into the next project while the previous project is rendering and exporting. This has helped with timing tremendously

  ### 25. Compressor does the job

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cady G. | Chief editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Since getting into video editing it has always been an issue being able to quickly exporting and saving complex videos in a variety of formats. With compressor I am able to choose a cvariety of formats for one video if needed.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The fact that there are times the compressor bogs down when I am exporting a large file gets irritating. This only happens once in a great while but when it does happen it is really time consuming.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All of our editors are able to save videos quicker and easier thanks to the improvement that have been made to the compressor software. The skill set needed to choose the formats needed is very small thanks to the UI of the software.

  ### 26. Necessary for any Video Editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb B. | Design Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I love the fact that Compressor helps make video files far more manageable in size. Final Cut Pro will export a far larger file. This gets it down to the right size. Plus, it has a ton of options for how to export the file. Whenever I make a ceremony video for a wedding client, Compressor makes it far easier to deliver the video to the client, especially with the longer weddings. And when I back up the footage and projects for the weddings, I'm able to do so without using as much space for the final exported video.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I don't like that sometimes Compressor fails without much reason during an export. It doesn't happen a lot but it does happen and it is frustrating when it happens on a 2 hour export.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

You won't regret using Compressor because it makes files so much easier to work with post-editing. I would recommend you have a computer that has enough processing power because it will get hot when compressor is running. Overall, I've been able to using it very effectively with just a laptop but it will use a lot of processing power.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it almost entirely for wedding videos that I film. I then put the films on USB flash drives and send to my clients. Compressor solves my problems by making the files much smaller for the flash drives. And it retains a lot of the quality of the videos. I love the number of options that Compressor gives for exporting these videos as well, in terms of file types. Plus, it's so integrated into Apple's package of software, it makes it easy to import projects to Compressor from Final Cut Pro X or Motion. One of the benefits I've realized is that it is simple in how it's set up. It makes it fairly easy to find the file types I want to use for exporting.

  ### 27. Works great, quite limited in features..

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amir H. | Business Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like how easy it is to navigate and find the settings you're looking for, the built-in settings are excellent, and It's handy for stuff like changing formats (like ProRes 444 to H.264 or others).

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It feels limited in features and settings for its price, and it tends to lag from time to time.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Compressor to modify videos and adapt them to different platforms. I also use Compressor to re-size video projects and provide more options to my customers regarding color space options, formats, aspect ratios, etc.

  ### 28. Compressor The tool that can help transform your video

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I love Compressor because it can help translate your video into a needed format for your final product. This is very helpful, especially if the final product needs to be a particular file type or size. Compressor can take your final file and translate it for you in a quick and easy process.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I wish there were a quick user guide to help show all of the features compressor can help. I feel confident in my skills; however, I am sure there is way more to learn and use.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

This tool is the swiss army knife of file transferring software. Don't leave home without it.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use compressor to configure my final video product into different formats, file types, and particular sizes.

  ### 29. Compressor is the secret tool in the background

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

The ability to run a compression algorithm to batches of files is the most helpful feature of Compressor. Prior to using to Compressor I was compression files individually and that is a tedious and time consuming process.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I have not run into any issues with compressor that I disliked.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor solves the problem of needing to compress several different files structures to different formats. Being able to do this in batches is incredibly helpful and powerful.

  ### 30. A great addition to final cut for all your export needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Ease of use and endless options for exporting video and plenty of customisation options.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Sometimes it crashes while exporting files

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

If you use Final Cut Pro X then its essential for exporting and transcoding your video files for multiple uses (web streaming, USB playback etc). No need to leave Final Cut Pro X once you’ve set this up.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick export of multiple file formats and resolutions for video production. Can also export direct from Final Cut Pro.

  ### 31. Great App For Professionals

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like that I can clearly setup the export so that it will always be the same each time I need to export something. I have all my preferences set up and ready to go.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It can be kinda difficult manage all the settings because they can be a bit cumbersom and first to get to.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We export videos for playback each and every week and we also create an archive file of our last broadcast. This allows us to export both at the same time. This also means I can hand off export duties to my assistants and still get the same and consistant quality.

  ### 32. Works amazing and does its job perfectly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Albert O. | Real Estate Agent, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like that this kind of application does actually exist because it would be really hard to work with heavy document files without it.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I don't like that there are not enough options for transporting the file. Since I work with really professional footage it is really important for me to have many many more options and they are not available sometimes

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Will highly recommend installing some memory before working on the system. Up to 128 GB preferable for heavy files.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps to maximize the space without touching the quality of the video.

  ### 33. An intuitive but solid tool for video encoding.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priscila L. | 1ère. Assistante Réalisatrice et coach d'acteurs, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Despite Adobe's rise in the field of video production software, Compressor remains a solid tool for video encoding. It works in the background and it does the boring part while I do the creative stuff. It delivers high-quality encoding in a variety of formats, quite useful for the content producer who works with different clients, each one with their specific needs.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It's a bit hard to integrate Compressor with softwares not made by Apple - and it's a pity Apple gave up on investing in professional software for video production. That was the reason I started using Apple computers.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

It still remains a solid tool for video encoding, especially for the everyday content creator that deals with many clients, each with their specific technical needs.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor is an intuitive and easy to use batch encoder - and still very professional - which enables me to encode numerous videos in many different formats all at once. It's a very useful tool since I produce loads of different content, for different clients, each of them with very different needs. It allows me to save my client's presets, so it makes it easy for the next jobs.

  ### 34. Compressor: A Great Tool for a Specific Audience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oliver D. | Brand Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor delivers a vast amount of formats and advanced methods of video compression to squeeze every byte out of your video files with little-to-no perceivable reduction in quality provided your batch is done for strictly compression reasons. It also gives the user the option to tweak settings such as embedding audio, optimize for web-use and slash the resolution and aspect-ratio to any given spec. It also gives you the ability to batch process work amongst other devices, making compression very quick for an affordable price.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

While Compressor is a phenomenal tool for advanced compression of media files, I feel the amount of formats and encoding options is limited however, especially if one wants to encode and export into wrappers more prevalent on Microsoft® Windows, such as WMV, AVI, and Adobe's FLV. This should not really dissuade a person from purchasing Compressor, as there are plug-ins for Compressor which enables some of these encoding options, but the out-of-the-box flexibility is directed towards formats commonly found online, Apple's own formats and not direct competitor solutions.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

You won't be disappointed with Compressor if you want the speed and optimizations, phenomenal encoding and compression capabilities and a very easy-to-use interface. Yet, I would not recommend this software if you are in the market to compress videos with massive cuts in file-size. Like with most Apple Software, it's about a good-looking final result at all costs, but if you want the ability to cut a file down from 1GB to, say, 100MB whilst keeping the resolution; there are better more size-focused tools available out there.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My use of Compressor is for speeding up Final Cut Pro X editing, as my hardware used as a daily-driver, primarily a MacBook Pro starts struggling with a ton of effects applied in Final Cut Pro X, so exporting these chunks in Compressor helps clear up system resources that are needed for continued editing in Final Cut Pro X.

Furthermore, using Compressor with genuine Apple hardware gives one the ability to perform Compressor batches incredibly quick, cutting down the size of video files for upload on popular platforms such as YouTube, Twitch and Facebook, allowing one to save time uploading files to the internet on congested networks, sometimes cutting upload time by several minutes.

  ### 35. Great all-round video compression tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maciek K. | Filmmaker, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compared to its competitors, Compressor is fast at video compression and transcoding. Besides, it supports all of the codecs I need, whilst allowing to easily make custom presets for any resolution or codec I need.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Even after years of using it, I find the interface clunky and confusing at times. I feel the interface could be organised better, as currently the elements feel very seperate from eachother. Perhaps if the presets were side by side with the inspector, it would bring more unity into the UI.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

To anyone who is considering editing in Final Cut Pro X, I reccomend Compressor and an essential sidekick to the main editing application. FCPX can export within itself, but sending to compressor allows you more technical control over all aspects of your finished video export.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a fast and reliable video compression and transcoding tool keeps me efficient. There is nothing I dislike more than sitting at a desk watching a computer render, and Compressor takes a lot of that pain away. The quicker I get videos exported and shared to clients, there more I am able to squeeze into my days. Being quick is also a benefit for the technology, not being pushed as intensly for as long of a period of time, prolonging the life of hardware.

  ### 36. Gets the job done

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony T. | Social Media Content Creator "detailsmove", Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

It's best for compressing large files into formidable sizes for sharing.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The initial learning curve in learning how to use the software.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem it solves is the ability to share files that would otherwise be too large to wirelessly, or even sometimes via flash drive, share.

  ### 37. Convert many types of videos

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** scottie b. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like how fast the compression software is. It seems much quicker than most every other conversion software

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It seems to be very buggy and shuts down sometimes. Also there are not many settings options

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Use it if you need it with Final Cut Pro, but for a standalone it's pretty horrible.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressing the exported video of Final Cut Pro on my mac.

  ### 38. Simple compression implementation for Final Cut Users

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan D. | Associate Director for Media Ministries, Religious Institutions, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor has hooks for simple use built into Final Cut Pro and Motion. It makes getting your anything from a daily to a final cut created with ease. Being able to grab our custom preset from the impressive list of preset options, and simply drag that onto our project means we take less time configuring and more time getting the next project on the timeline.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It would be nice if the presets were more directly modifiable. Alternatively, you can very easily copy one of the presets and modify it to your specific needs without risking the original preset settings. One other issue is that the info pane that shows your job status disappears and comes up on a new pane. It would be nice if the completed job were a bit easier to find if the system notification has already passed.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We export 2-3 final videos each week with compressor. We need something that is easy to use and quick on the job. Compressor does both for us! We are able to export in a timely manner and get our videos uploaded and distributed fast thanks to Compressor.

  ### 39. The simplest and most efficient of video conversions on the Mac

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew B. | Self employed, Performing Arts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor starts with predefined workflow presets that enable outputting to your destination formats and platforms with ease, which insures that anything you ingest is output with the container and internal settings that will be needed.

And then you can go beyond that by editing all of the details of each conversion job, all in 1 simple to use interface.

This is also my go-to convertor when bringing in formats that are exported from non-Apple products on jobs that need to be delivered to Apple product users (Final Cut Pro etc). Knowing that your alphas channels and ProRes exports will be ingested on the other end with no problems gives stress-free delivery in a timely fashion. This is especially important when bringing in exports from After Effects/Premiere or 3D applications, as sometimes the minor differences in what should be identical exports can cause the editors who will use the files to have to manually fix things on their own.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

The primary complaint most of us have isn't with Compressor, it's the fact that the legacy quicktime features are missing from the modern Quicktime tools, which seems to be intended to drive purchases of Compressor. Luckily I'm a user of both Final Cut Pro X and Premiere, as well as other pro video and 3D toolsets, and so the low price of Compressor is a no brainer for me.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Gold standard in mac Video conversion utilities

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ingest, convert to multiple destination (formats/platforms) and all with a few clicks. Fast, efficient and correct! Once 'compressed' problems are few and far in between.

  ### 40. Working with all types of files!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Motion Pictures and Film | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor is easy to use and allows me to work with a variety of file formats to compress them to a size usable for DVDs or convert them to another file format. There are a variety of options and customizations, and I have never yet run across a project it could not handle!

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Its a bit slow, but worth waiting, since it does exactly what I need and it is intended to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

If you work with DVDs and multiple file formats, this is a great program.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor allows me to take huge files and compress them! Self-explanatory! But I can also create high-resolution compressed files to fit on a DVD where the native format would be way to big to use as is. It is my go-to solution for DVD file creation.

  ### 41. Compressor makes exporting media a breeze

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron F. | Worship Leader, Religious Institutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Compressor is easy to use, but is extremely rich in features and options.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

There aren’t any built-in presets that reflect my usual export settings, so I have to create my own.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a church, we export multiple videos a week to be uploaded online and used in our weekend services. It does it in a timely manner and with great quality.

  ### 42. Compressor for my videos

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George B. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

integrated with Final Cut is essential to process videos for the web for me.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

I would like it to be more integrated to Final Cut with more extensions for 4k video.,my opinion.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

for a Mac person using Final Cut Pro is essential.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

in my daily work I use the program to compress videos for the web.

  ### 43. Compressor Simplifies Video Output

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

The ability for Compressor to take any size file and give me nearly thousands of options for video output with no hassle is a saver of time and effort, and allows me to work on other projects without draining RAM usage. Very easy and simple interface and a familiar one at that, a program that anyone from beginners to experts can learn and master quickly.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Not much to dislike as the program is really cut and dry, but there is room for UI improvement if it came by development. The only other thing possibly is better playback controls and maybe some extra editing options to fine tweak towards the end- not anything you would need a video editing program to do, but improvements towards the crop tool and others couldn't hurt.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

I really like any program (Final Cut Pro comes to mind) that allows a direct export to Compressor as it really takes away a lot of the work and also makes less file crashing/corruption happen.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick and easy way to output to nearly any video format, low RAM usage allowing me to use computer for other things instead of the CPU being clogged by rendering a video. Easy to use tool that I can stick anyone I work with on and they can learn in under 5 minutes, great for team projects and quick rendering allowing more time for final edits to be made.

  ### 44. Helpful Program

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

The compressor program really help large files I have edited in final cut get converted in smaller more acute sizes.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Compressor can be very hard to use, and requires a lot of training to master.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With compressor I am able to export my files in a variety of formats to help communicate my product in many ways.

  ### 45. Compressor Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2017

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

It's easy to use. I work in editing and we have to convert videos to different specs and/or compress them often. The ability to make droplets with specific specs is incredibly useful and time-saving. All the different compression settings are organized neatly and in a way that makes them easy to search through. Obviously nice that you can also customize the output settings.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

There isn't much that I don't like. Sometime when converting, glitches can occur. This could also just be because of the original quality of the video. Compressor really is a great program.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We often have to upload creative content (primarily videos) to clients, and each client uses different platforms through which we post the content (i.e. Wiredrive, PIX, etc.). We have to convert our videos to specific specs that correspond to each platform. We make droplets with the desired specs an can just drag and drop the videos into the droplet, saving a lot of time. It's super convenient. When downloading and saving over materials to our database, we usually have to convert the videos into our editing specs which we use Compressor often for.

The batch monitor feature is also great for keeping track of each videos progress.

  ### 46. Compressor is a must have for any Final Cut Pro user

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Max O. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

Seamless integration with Apple's Motion and Final Cut Pro X;
Output file format customization;
4k support;
Apple ProRes 4444 native support

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Apple needs to give this app for free when you buy Final Cut Pro X or Motion;
Perhaps it does need to be a separate app, all the features should be integrated in Final Cut Pro X and Motion

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

If you are a Mac user and you chose to go with Final Cut Pro X, rather then Adobe Premier Pro, then Compressor is a must have app for you. It seamlessly works with Final Cut Pro exporting, so you can continue working on a new project while the other one is rendering in Compressor. Same goes for Apple's Motion users. I also would recommend to use Apple ProRes 4444 video codec for editing, the quality is amazing.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company produces hundreds of videos a month, so video editing is what we do mostly. We receive video files from different sources and devices. To make video editing more fast and seamless, we convert all received videos using Compressor with Apple ProRes 4444 codec without loosing any quality. Then edit these files in Final Cut Pro X, add some effects using Motion and export the final video using Compressor to a suitable mp4 file format.

  ### 47. It saves me from encore

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea N. | Executive Director of Video Production, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I like how simple it is to use. It saves me when encore will not read exported projects from premiere. Encore somehow has no problems importing projects compressed from compressor.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

It does take a while to compress long files.

**Recommendations to others considering Compressor:**

Use this if you're getting error messages in Encore.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compressor solves the problem of a unreadable export from premiere or encoder. I've realized that compressor file types import into encore better than its own adobe products.

  ### 48. I use Compressor for all of my video production work, no matter if it's personal or for business.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan L. | Radio Technical Producer, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2016

**What do you like best about Compressor?**

I love how Compressor has so many different codecs that you can utilize for video exporting. It makes editing with Final Cut Pro so much better because of the different codec options.

**What do you dislike about Compressor?**

Sometimes the software can be a little clunky, which can be annoying when trying to export videos. For the most part though, it is user-friendly.

**What problems is Compressor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am constantly trying to ensure that my clients get the best video options possible, and that is something that Compressor makes easier for me. It is great to have a software that creates so many different codec options for my editing workflow.
