When you first get contacted by PatentRenewal.com one can get the impression that the first contact may be part of a phishing activity to raise at least an eyebrow. Especially, as PatentRenewal contacts you with details about your patents that are publicly available but this just underlines that one may take this as a potential threat. Provides timely reminders for upcoming renewals and deadlines. 2. Pays annuities on our behalf one month in advance, ensuring timely payments. 3. The software is user-friendly and easy to learn, allowing anyone to adapt to it quickly. 4. Its features are intuitive and easy to use. For example, it allows users to add data either one case at a time or upload multiple cases simultaneously. 5. Allows data to be exported and downloaded in Excel format. 6. Overall, there isn't much to dislike about the software. However, there are a few minor areas where I believe it could be improved: 1. The system does not allow users to update certain bibliographic details, such as publication information. For these changes, we need to contact customer support via email. 2. Occasionally, portfolio logos are not displayed correctly and appear stretched. 3. The status column is not always updated promptly. Even after an annuity has been paid, it can take several days for the status to reflect the payment. A real-time or faster status update would improve the user experience. After seeing that they had launched direct signup, I mostly wanted to test the platform and see how it compared with other patent renewal providers before making any bigger decision. The first impression was very positive. The onboarding process was also much simpler than expected. We uploaded the portfolio data, their team reviewed the renewal information, and then we could review the upcoming renewal, confirm the instructions, and pay the invoice. Then the renewal was handled, and the updates were visible in the system. That gave us enough confidence to start onboarding more of our portfolio. The platform also looked more modern and easier to use than other solutions I had seen. It was clear where to find the portfolio, upcoming renewals, cost information, documents, and forecasts. What do you dislike about PatentRenewal.com? I dislike the invoices and the emails that send the invoices. They are set out for the benefit of PatentRenewal and not for the benefit of the customer. The email header would be better if it clearly stated the client to which the attached invoice relates. The invoices would be better if they clearly stated the name of the client at the top and if the renewals were listed in date order. What I do like about the invoices is that I can copy and paste the payee details into my bank account. However, the deposit system related to exchange rate differences could be more flexible. Because we pay in EUR, additional deposits are sometimes required for renewals in other currencies. Since deposits are refunded only after reaching a certain threshold, managing and distributing refunded amounts back to multiple clients becomes administratively burdensome. Previously, I had to manage each annuity with the relevant representative, which meant (a) requesting a quote every time, (b) doing a lot of docketing to make sure no deadlines were missed, (c) emailing and communicating with many different representatives, (d) following up with multiple people, and (e) paying invoices to several different representatives. With Patent renewals, I can instruct and handle a good amount of annuities in a centralized way through one entity only. This should be represented more transparently, ideally with a clear note or reminder. The same applies to patents in countries where proof of use of the patents is required. However, when dealing with local agencies that handle payments and process POAs, it might be better if Patentrenewals sends the POAs to the agencies, as forwarding them can indeed lead to shipping errors.
